Electric Windows

The first electric windows were introduced in 1940 as an alternative to the hand-turned windows. These car windows can be lowered and raised by pressing a switch or button. Electric windows are designed for convenience and safety.

How do you troubleshot front passenger power window problem on a 94 Toyota Camry?

If it is just the passanger side don't bother with the fuses. the wiring does go thru the drivers side and then to the passanger side. Use a voltmeter at the passenger power window motor. If you get 12V to the motor it is probably bad. If you don't have 12V at the motor the wiring to it is probably bad. Make sure you didn't accidently turn off the passenger window switch at the drivers side door.

Why doesn't my 2001 ford F150 not go into gear?

If it is a stick, it could most likely be the clutch master cylinder or the slave cyliner. Check around the master for any leaks. Also, check the transmission itself and the clutch pedal in the cab. If there is fluid on them, that is probably your problem. Another thing could be the clutch pressure plate. If it is an automatic, check the transmission fluid and consider a transmission service.

What do you need to do to fix your driver side window on a 96 Honda Accord the window is not off the track and the motor is running but the window will not go up?

I had the same problem in my 1992 Honda Accord LX and it turned out to be a little plastic guide for the window cables that was broken. All you need to do is carefully remove the door panel, and look to see if the white plastic cable guide is damaged (approximate size 2 x3), if it is, unscrew the damaged piece and take it to your parts store to have them order a replacement part. Replace with new part, replace door panel and off you go. I hope this helps a little.

I've fixed a couple - all on GM products.

You have to first find the source of the problem - there are about 4 possible sources: (not given in any particular order)

A) no power (+12V) to any of the power windows. The easy one here is from a fuse - check that first. Could also come from the wiring between the fuses and the main switch (located in the driver's door). Haven't run into this yet, but it's possible.

B) Bad switch. If a passenger window is the problem, there are 2 switches involved - the 'master' and the 'passenger' switch. If the driver's window works OK, it may be the passenger switch. Usually, playing with a bad switch will get the window to work - a little bit.

C) Bad motor. Had one of these. After replacing a switch didn't solve the problem, replaced the motor w/ built in gearing. (In hindsight, the tired motor may have damaged the switch, since the switch appeared to have overheated contacts.) The window would go down, almost all the time; but it wouldn't go up. Pulling the glass up by hand, and waiting between attempts, would eventually get the window closed (not something to do in a rainstorm!). The motor would run, kinda, but didn't have enough umph to raise the window. I bought an aftermarket replacement for about 1/2 of the dealer part price. I found that I did NOT need to do all the teardown (this on a 96 Astro van) the factory repair manual said! Just drill out the old rivets, unhook the electrical connector, (after removing interior door panel, etc.)connect the new motor, and bolt the new motor in place. Note that you'll need to get the window glass most if not all of the way up (somehow) to do this.

D) Wiring problem between the switch & motor - had some of this with an 85 Suburban. Check for this, before replacing the motor. Wiggle the wiring / connectors while attempting to operate - if something happens, inspect wires / connectors closely.

How to replace front drivers power window motor and now none of them go down?

I have a 77 classic and openned both door panels yesterday (8/2/05) to troubleshoot a passenger window problem. Found the right side motor to be burnt-out. If you have a DC volt meter you can put one probe on the brown wire of the motor connector and the other probe to ground; when you actuate the switch you should get a 12volt DC reading. If the meter swings opposite try revering your probes. This will tell you if you're getting power to the motors. If not, work you way back to the switch and then the feeds, to the fuse. Good luck. pembrokegm@aol.com

How do you get an automatic window up when the switch doesn't appear to be working?

this is a cavalier we are talking about this is a tipical problem, try hitting the door panel,or remove the panel and hit the motor directly garaunteed the switch is fine its the window motor that's the likely cause,to be sure though you could check for power to and from the switch if good than make sure you have power to the motor just in case there is a wire broken in the door jamb/

How do you make a power moon roof open and close properly?

You use your hands!

smokingallowed: This is for 1996-04 z24 2-dr coupe... Using your hands wont work.. You have to get to the moon roof motor. Remove the six little torx screws (star shape) holding the glass on, remove glass, set the glass aside. Pull up the plastic rocker panels on both sides of car (next to seats),then remove the plastic a-piller trim (sides of windshield). Just pull them strait off,(only held on with clips). Remove the sun visors(both) and rear view mirror on the windsheild. Remove the rubber trim on the headliner that goes around bottom of moon roof. Now you can start dropping down the front of the headliner after you carefully release the 4 plastic push pins that is holding up front and sides of head liner. NOW you can access the motor...remove the 3 screws that mount the motor and let it hang. Slide the black 2 trac's (the thing that the glass screws onto) either all the way open or closed it dont matter. Now press the moon roof switch to the possition you chose(open or closed) until the motor stops. Mount the motor back into position. Check that the black trac's open and close the same by using switch to open and close. Now reverse these actions and put it all back together.

How do you change the power window motor on a 2000 Pontiac Firebird?

Unless you're real good at doing things like this, I suggest that you pay to have it done. I've replaced several and it sucks - it's a nasty job!! However, if you are really brave & elect to do it yourself, you must first purchase a large pop riviter through harbour freight {cheapest price I found} you'll need to drill out four 1/4 inch pop rivits.

How do you remove power window motor in 1991 f150 xlt?

Remove door trim screws, one in handle one next to side mirror. Remove power window door lock trim, the metal piece is attached to the plastic part. Lift whole door trim up at the rear and down at the front to slide out from door opener handle. Remove the plastic sheeting and any insulation. remove the glass from the lifter arm. Remove wiring.Drill out the 3 rivets that hold the motor, pull out and replace. 1/4 20 bolts and nuts work if you don't have rivets.

Where can I find in detail instructions on replacing the mirror control switch on a Volkswagen Beetle 2000?

hi, I just performed the same task a few weeks ago on my 99 Beetle. High-five for deciding to do it yourself! if we Beetle owners took our cars to a mechanic everytime something broke we'd be living in a homeless shelter! This is the link that i printed out when changing my mirror switch. Unfortunately, half way through we realized that it was for a VW Golf rather than a beetle. Fortunately, though, the two cars are pretty similiar. The task was extremely easy. If I remember correctly, you can use this site to figure out how to take the door panel off...yes, you have to take the door panel off. Then, once you do that, you can pretty much figure out the rest. It took my boyfriend and I a mere 15 minutes to complete this task. Hope it helps. Good Luck!!
