Heating AC and Engine Cooling

Heating, air conditioning (AC) and engine cooling require a radiator to transfer heat. Heating a cabin requires heat to be transferred from an engine block. Engine cooling blows the heat out of the engine. AC uses refrigerants to cool air.

What would cause the cooling fan to only work when the air conditioning is on?

The Cooling Fans ( 1 Small & the a bit Larger ). The Big One Is For Cooling The Radiator For Normal Engine Usage. When The A/C Is On The Smaller Fan Will Run To Allow More Air To Be Pulled Over The Condensor And Radiator, To Better Cool The Water & Make The A/C More Efficent. There Is A Sensor In The Engine That Controls The Cooling Fan This May Have Gone Bad. I Would Begin My Testing Here First. Then Test The Fan To See If It Is OK. Hope This Helps

If the rubber hose that connects the heater core to the intake on a 89 cavalier is missing what can you use?

You can buy a replacement hose at an auto parts store. Or, if your heater core is bad and you are not replacing it, you can disconnect the other hose from the core and reroute it back to the intake to keep the water circulating through the engine.

How do you replace a power steering pump in a 2002 Chevy Cavalier?

You must first remove the serpentine drive belt.

You must remove the two devices that sit on top and rearward of the PS pump. One is the Cruise control unit and the other box is electrical in nature.

then you must remove the one bolt in the back side of the pump that is attached to a bracket and the three bolts on the front side of the pump that attaches it to the bracket. You must remove the front three by using the holes in the pulley. The bolt on the back side is not easy to get to and you may need to unbolt another bracket to get to it.

Suck out all the PS fluid and remove both the PS pump lines, one with line wrench and one with clip on rubber hose.

You may also want to remove the molded plastic air intake by loosening small bolt holding it to the intake manifold on the back side.

At that point the PS pump can be rotated around to be removed. This requires some patience and some unique moving the PS pump. But it will come out.

Get the pump with the reservoir already on it. More $ but less trouble and mess.

Hope this helps. Just did it a month ago on my sons's 2002 Cavalier. Was pretty easy compared to other jobs I have done.

Bleed 3800 engine cooling system?

Is the question how to bleed a Buick 3800 cooling system? I would say open that little petcock by the themostat housing and release all the air as you fill the system with coolant. When coolant comes out instead of air all the air is out.

Where can you find a diagram for the engine cooling system on a 1997 Seville STS?

I'm betting your local Caddy dealer had one. Other than that a good quality auto parts store has, or can order for you, a service manual.

Could a fuse cause overheating?

No, if a fuse were to overheat it would blow. A shorted circuit can cause a fuse to blow.

Yes. If the fuse for the electric cooling fan should blow, then the fan will not turn on and remove heat from the radiator at low speeds. At higher speeds, there will be enough air movement to cool the radiator.

Also if your experiencing problems with your car overheating you should look into other causes, such as making sure your anti freeze reservoir is full

Why does your heater blow out cold air?

Do you have a heat pump or Gas Furnace?

With my car, it was Heater matrix clogged with radiator sealant. The workshop cleaned it and it's start working fine!

The air conditioning stopped blowing on your 98 Toyota Avalon and the light telling the temperature outside at the same time. The fan is still blowing though. Could this be a fuse blown?

This is one of Toyota's dirty little secrets! The '98 Toyota Avalon was sold with a known defective A/C Amplifier. They issued a Technical Service Bulletin on December 3, 1999 #AC005-99 on this exact defect. = A/C int. INOP = Ambient Temperature light INOP = Fresh/Recirc Light INOP = Mode Indicator Light INOP = Blower INOP Toyota put a footnote on the TSB that "Warranty application is limited to correction of a problem based upon a customer's specific complaint." Which means the service department will not tell you about the problem. You have to be a expert and tell them what the problem is. The biggest scam is that this is an intermittent problem and unless it is not working when you bring it in they will tell you they can't duplicate the concern. Shame, shame, shame on Totota! The fix is a new A/C Amplifier, new Inlet Servo Motor, and new Servo Link. All told, including labor, this will cost you over $1,000 Of course, now that you know what the cause of the problem is... they will deny the fix because the vehicle is out of warranty. Many of us have been down this road! Just remember who screwed you next time you go to buy a car.

The only way to drain all the coolant is to unhook the bottom radiator hose. The radiator does NOT have a drain vale.
