Use an easy-out of harder metal after drilling a small hole with harder metal.

There is a line on both of the pulleys, the top pulley (camshaft) the line should be at the bottom or 6:00 position and the bottom pulley (crankshaft) the line should be on top or in the 12:00 position, both lines should line up with each other.

Buy a belt made for a vr6 and when they ask you if you have a/c just say no and they will get you a belt that fits one without a/c

the idler pully is the top center that that spins freely and is connected to the block.

I have a 99 4 cyl std tranny ranger. the crankshaft pulley bolt is 22mm. Am having problem loosening bolt. need special to lock crankshaft. I have a couple ot things to try.

How do I remove a pully from the drive shaft. The snap ring that holds pully on has been taken off.Itried a gear puller but it bends the pully.

It converts the directional force into a force of another direction.

If your talking the main harmonic balancer on the crankshaft, you will need a puller to remove that. I can't think of any pulleys that would allow you to pull them off by hand. Your local autoparts store will have a removal tool for more than likely around 20-25 dollars.

you need a 45 or 50 torqe bit

check you motor mounts and trans alignment your pulley shouldn't wobble with a new assembly

The tension pulley should have a bolt that holds it on, allowing you to replace the unit.

use impact gun or use the the starter to loosen the bolt with a long Johnson bar or ratchet.

In order to remobe the crank pully u need to put lift the front end of the car take off the driver side tire and put the car into gear. While having someone hold the breaks. Use a break over bar with a 22mm socket and use foot to push towards back of car. After a few attempts the bolt should easly break loose.

yes hi, removing the crankshaft pulley from the engine is not an easy task.

firstly you have to remove the flywheel cover plate, this is fixed by 4 bolts, then you have to jam a large screwdriver or similar type tool into the flywheel teeth, thus jamming the engine from turning.

using a 17mm socket and a large power bar you unscrew the main bolt that affixes the pulley in place, sometimes it can help if you have a helper to jam the flywheel.

DO NOT, try to jam the crankshaft pulley as it is fragile and will break.

Additional information: the best way to remove the crank shaft pulley is the following:

1: Remove a spark plug and insert a section of rope into the cylinder leaving some of the rope outside so that you will be able to remove the rope once you have completed the removal and reinstallion of the new pulley. The reason you are placing rope into the cylinder is to allow the piston to compress on to the rope thus keeping the crank shaft from spining while you attemp to remove the bolt on the pulley.

2. The bolt which has been installed to 134 ft/lbs is removed by turning the bolt counter clock-wise.

3. Assuming you are removing the pulley because when the engine is running the pulley is not spinning the pulley will come off very easy once you have remove the bolt. If not you will want to use a tool to remove the pulley. Be array that the key is intergrated into the pulley so if it has been sheered off you will need to replace the pulley.

get at it from the bottom get a white marker and mark the timing spot then go up top and you should be able to see it

If the idler pulley is frozen, it is high time to replace the timing belt and the idler. And while that job is being done, consider replacing the water pump and thermostat.

after removing belt from tentioner and all surrounding items ,You Must Buy or Rent a STEERING PUMP PULLEY PULLER it looks like a small washer split in TWO with threaded rods to Pull off Pulley by the lip on it , a 2 or 3 fingered pulley puller WILL NOT WORK! Auto Zone or NAPA has these for about $30 it works easily .ask how to use it at the store.

The factory installed pump would have been a bolt on. Most replacements have pressed on pulleys.

It more than likely needs new bearings. That is why it is out of line, unless the vehicle has been in an accident. Remove the belt, and remove the tensioner idler pulley and repair it.

Most of these require a special tool avaiable form any tool dealer and many auto parts stores for about $15. It is called a GM/Chrysler power steering pulley puller.

Weigh the cost and availability of the tool against the cost and availability of a new pulley.

Either way, remember that the washer supplied with the hardened steel bolt of a new PS pump supplied for pulley installation may not be of adequate strength and get another two washers to stack next to it for support. Also, grease the threads of said hardened steel (black) bolt. If the bolt is not black (or red) bring it to a hardware store and ask for a stronger bolt with the same threads.

I own a 1996 bonneville. The tensioner bolt is a reverse threaded bolt, (tighten to loosen). Hope this helps. DCC

The tension bolt should not be removed. The four bolts holding the alternator in place need to be removed, the loosening tension bolt will give enough slack to get the belt off.

Most common cause is low fluid, or the pump could be wearing out

It takes a bit of maneuvering, but the easiest way I have found is to first remove the pulley from the tensioner. (You can achieve this using a breaker bar and applying force in the opposite direction that you use to adjust the pulley.) To remove the screws that hold the tensioner in place, you need to have a decent variety of the smaller extension and socket depth sizes if you want to be able to loosen them a lot more quickly that you could with a regular wrench. (Personally, I was unable to get to the upper screw on the right side of the pulley normally, because a hose being in the way. So I unhooked the the hose from the top, up near the coolant reservoir, and had someone pull up on the hose to allow me access to the screw.) <<note: DO NOT PULL HARD ENOUGH TO BREAK THIS HOSE!>>

Installation is the reverse of removal.
