a welsh plug is a plug in the side of the block and the heads. these fill the holes left after casting.they actually allow the sand to be removed that is used during casting so as you have a hollow block which allows for the water jackets. in the USA these welsh plugs are called freeze plugs. they really do not stop the coolant from damaging the block if coolant freezes they are specifically to block the casting holes
I'm guessing, but the coolant level sensor is probably in the overflow bottle and it is low. This is so you notice it before the radiator itself is low.
I've got a qoute for $444.83 for parts and labor.
the radiator itself no but the coolant that it carries has distinct odor Any paint on the new part could smell.
During radiation, energy is emitted from a source and propagated through the surrounding medium, or the energy involved in this process.
Try replacing the thermostat next. Also to make sure that you bleed the air out of the cooling system by letting the engine warm up with the radiator cap off. Next on the list would be to replace your radiator hoses if they seem soft to the touch, they could collapse under acceleration. Be sure to check for engine oil in coolant and/or coolant in the engine oil(looks like mud). This will signify a head gasket leak. Hope that helps.
ricko
well ricko i believe u have solved my problem,my car will run perfect when its not being drove and fans come on and it doesnt overheat at all,but as soon as you go to drive the car it starts to overheat and i can not figure out why?but when i take the radiator cap off i have a mud like looking substance on the cap and when you comes out the over flow and dries it looks like rust,so you think my head gasket is gone?it has been like that since i have owned the car though for 2 years and i replaced the radiator and thermostat a month ago and like i said as long as i don't drive it it does fine but as soon as i go to drive it will start heading for the red.confused 1996 toy Camry 2200 owner. john
Do radiator sealants work and are they safe?
no.they eat up your hoses so the best thing for that is to take it to the radiator shop it should't cost no more than 100.00 to have fixed and install back on the vehicle
You should the head gasket. If you go to Autozone, they have a tool that can check for exhaust gas in the coolant which may tell you if you have blown head gasket. Also, check your oil to see if it is milky or if you are blowing white smoke from the exhaust pipes. HTH
First, look for obvious signs of damage. Is there leaking around the radiator? Is the alternator or serpentine belt damaged? If it's not cranking, it might be a bad battery. If it's cranking but not catching, borrow, rent or buy a code scanner and see what the on-board diagnostics says. It's a simple process and will generally give you all of the information that you need.
Find out where you're leaking. Anything that causes the coolant to leak out is cause for concern. Fill the radiator. Leave the radiator cap off and start the engine. Watch for bubbles. If there are quite a few bubbles and the coolant wants to blow out even before the engine gets warm, you might have a head gasket problem.
Where is the radiator in a 1994 Plymouth Voyager?
Pop the hood and its right there... its the thing with the cap, and a upper and lower hose on it.
1994 cougar V6 is overheating what could be causing it no leaks in radiator and has automatic fan?
Hopefully, it's the thermostat... but, if the engine has seriously overheated it could be a damaged head gasket caused by a warped head. Engine heads will warp slightly when the engine overheats, then there is insufficient pressure on the head gasket and the gasket will leak.
Keeping a garden hose under pressure?
Such as keeping the water on but having an adjustable nozzle? Shouldn't cause any problems in the short term, but it couldn't hurt to turn it off when your finished with it at the end of the day, rather than leave it like that for weeks or months on end.
What do you do when the radiator fan in your 1994 grand voyager stays on after the ignition is off?
In some vehicles the fan does stay on for alittle bit after the engine has been shut down... if it stays on for along time and wont go off then it might be the fan relay. does the fan eventually switch off by itself?if it does the fan is working corectly.it stays on till the temp is pulled back down to the temp setting.if it does not eventually shut off by it self, you need to have the fan thermostat checked
Thermostat housing
have system pressure tested to observe leak
It could be a head gasket or a cracked head. Look at the exhaust manifold for each cylinder on the side that has the white smoke, the cylinder that has the leak will cause that port on the manifold to get super hot. One way to quickly identify which port is to spray some cheap black (or color of choice) paint on the exhaust manifold and fill the radiator and start the engine. The paint on the bad cylinder will burn off first.
Why would the anti-freeze in a 1993 Grand Am 2.3 sohc keep boiling out of the radiator cap?
Hey Willie==If it comes out the cap and not the overflow jug, the cap is faulty plus what is causing it to get hot. 'Check the fans for proper operation. If it isn't smoking white smoke, it probably isn't the head gaskets. A stuck thermostat will also cause it ot overheat. If all else fails, take it to a radiator shop and have the radiator flow tested. GoodluckJoe
Actually, this is to be expected when one considers that ethylene glycol, the principal component of most antifreezes, freezes at 8 degrees above zero, Fahrenheit. It is only when water is added that the freezing point is depressed. The freezing point of an ethylene glycol and water mixture drops rapidly as the concentration of glycol is increased to a mixture of about 60% antifreeze and 40% water. Around that point, an abrupt turnabout occurs, and as more antifreeze is added, the freezing point rises almost as fast as it had previously dropped. It's clearly a case of what you don't know can hurt you, but I have never seen an antifreeze container with an explanatory note to this effect. It must have leakage somewhere. When it gets cold the antifreeze contracs. That is why there is a bottle next to the radiator that has two marks COLD and hot. the level should be in between these. If it is not and way off then you have a leak somewhere. Leak may be small, may be in the hadgasket (no good), look under the car to see if any green or colr fluid is under overnite. Did you unscrew the radiator cap and forget to tighten it roccetly?
Is it OK to put water in a 1996 Atro radiator instead of orange engine cooler?
Yes, you can. Depending on how much you put in, it will change the boiling point of the coolant. If it's just a little bit, you shouldn't affect it that much. If it's a lot, you have to watch the temperature more often. For best results, you need a 50/50 mixture of coolant & water.
Where is a radiator on a 2002 mr2 spyder?
The radiator is still located in the front like any other car, it just has extended piping to reach the radiator. If you ever take a look at a technical diagrahm of the Spyder, you'll see its still located in the front and the piping runs on each side of the car.
Your car is leaking coolant and the mechanic says you need a new radiator does that sound right?
If that's where the leak is coming from then that's what would need to be fixed. If money is a significant issue they make pretty good 'stop leak' additives that you can pick up from any auto parts store. If the leak isn't a gusher that is. There's a powdered metal one that I think is especially good at sealing minor leaks. Might be worth trying this first before spending the bucks on a new radiator. As the counterman at any autoparts store to recommend one. The orange coolant in my 99 passat tends to clot up when it hits the open air and can seal itself in alot of cases. I have a leak around a coolant hose that has sealed itself and even the dealer said it looks like it will be ok. If you have a leak even with this type coolant it must be pretty bad, unless its just a leaky hose and in that case your mechanic is trying to hose you.
== == it would depend where it was leaking coolant from. have a close look at your radiator, if it is showing signs of leakage have a scratch around with a wire brush, if it is only one small hole, a good stop leak can fix it (or a good soldiering job, which is more effective, & cheaper) but if your radiator has many holes starting to appear,, replace it fast.
check around your hoses, & water pump, these are the places it could also be leaking, when its all fixed & stopped leaking, use a good antifreeze radiator conditioner, this will help protect it from deteriorating in the future.
What happens if you mix different kinds of anti freeze?
in some cases the antifreeze will change consistency, it would turn into a "muddy" like substance. As long as the antifreeze you are using is ethylene glycol based, as most are,(Prestone, Peak, Zerex, private label brands) EXCEPT the Sierra brand, they are totally compatible. If your cooling system has any darkness to it that indicates it is time for a cooling system flush.
Where is radiator drain plug located on a 1994 Lincoln Continental?
Drivers side of radiator at bottom of radiator.
