Why the car stop and after 5 minutes start again?

When this was happening on my 1999 3.8 Liter Intrigue, I suspected the starter switch, but when I took it in to have it looked at, all it was, was a worn out Battery. They replaced the Battery and the problem went away.

What causes a truck to start cranking while hooking up the battery?

I had the same problem. I had been using a very poor battery that was almost flat all of the time. All battery connections turned out to be in good order, worried about the engine begining to seize up hbut found it turned freely by hand. the problem turned out to be the starter motor that had broken down due to constant use of a poor battery condition. Please check your battery condition, connections, that engine turns freely and your starter motor. A lot of garages do a start and charge check very cheaply.

Where is the fuel cut off switch in a 2005 Renault clio?

On the 1998 Vauxhall Frontera, they do not always have a fuel cut off switch. Sometimes they are built into the ECU. If it is not in the ECU, it would be located in drivers side of the foot well. There will either be a lever to pull up, or to push down.

Pontiac starter disengages before engine starts?

I would say you have broken teeth on it, or your battery may be getting too low, while your key is in the ignition in the on position, take a screwdriver and touch the B+ wire on the starter solenoid ( may take a few tries but should start)! I would also advise that you get it replaced!

Why would your car be constantly hard to start?

This depends greatly on what kind and year of car and what kind of engine. This is just too general to answer. Joe Sounds like a major lack of maintenance, I'd start there if it isn't too late.

Can water in the gas tank cause a car not to start?

If You Have A Car With A Fuel Injection System On It And The Fuel Pump Is Electric, Located In The Tank. Turn The Key On And OFF. Five Or Six Times, But Don`t Try To Start Car When Doing This. In Doing This It Will Allow The Fuel Pump To Run And Fill Fuel Line. Next There Should Be A Pressure Test Port Located In The Fuel Rail On top Of The Engine. Looks Like A Tire Valve. After Doing The Thing With The Fuel Pump, By Way Of The Ignition. Use A Small Screwdriver & Push In On Valve In The Test Port Fuel & Air Will Come Out. If You Do Not Get Fuel Like A Good Spray From Test Port. 1. You May Be Out Of Gas 2. Your Fuel Pump May Be Bad 3. Your Fuse May Be Bad, Or Bad Relay. Have A GOOD MECHANIC LOOK AT THIS FOR YOU. GOOD LUCK

Why would car still just be clicking and not turning over at all after I just replaced the battery?

you might have shorted out something-started, but the same thing happened to me, and it was the stupidest thing in the world and wouldn't hurt to check, do u have an alarm system? my car has a trip sensor so when the battery is changed or shorted to try to hotwire, alarm is automatically applied, and wont start with the alarm on

The clicking sound is the starting relay and is typical of a battery with low voltage. You didn't state the reason the old battery was replaced. If it was because of age, the above alarm issue may be the cause. If the old battery was only a couple of years old and not holding a charge, there could be a slow drain from short.

If it worked when first installed and within a few starts it is failing, then I would suspect something in the charging circuit. A good alternator will put out about 14 volts at the battery terminals with the engine running.

How do you change a starter on a suzuki aerio?

The starter is located behind the engine . First take the wires off the solenoid, then take the two bolts that go through the bell housing into the starter off and the starter will come out. Place back on mount, put bolts back on and hook wires and hose back up.

When I try to start me car it wont start and makes a clicking sound?

sounds like your starter, some times if you get under neath the car and hit the starter a few times with a rubber mallet or a hammer. It will break free if its froze up, but if it won't turn over after doing that then your starter is toast. If the starter goes it sometimes takes out the battery too. so you might need a new one as well.

Where is the starter located on a 98 crown vic?

Follow the large wire from the battery.

On the right side of the engine, underneath attached to the bell housing. If the engine is a 302 PLEASE DISCONNECT THE BATTERY before working on the starter as the big cable is live as it is connected directly to the battery.

My car won't start and its not the battery?

Fuel Pump

Fuel pump is a possible culprit. It can also be a clogged fuel filter or defective coil, etc. You need to determine what is missing of the 3 things needed for the engine to run. Fuel, Air, Spark. Once you do that you will know where to look.

Where's the starter on the Murano?

If you stand facing the engine with the hood open. The starter is located on the left side of the engine. It will be difficult to see from the top. But can be seen if you remove the plastic cover on the right front wheel well, or if you were to remove the plastic panel underneath the car. If you stand facing the engine with the hood open. What causes an engine not to turn over?

Try getting a new Starter, however, since KIAs are a piece od S*** (I have one with the same problem, that nobody seems to know how to fix) Try getting in touch with a Kia dealer, even though it is going to be very expensive (~$500) as compared to a regular mechanic. Good luck, as I will need it too.

i would try the crankshaft position sensor. it is a frequent problem on Kia and would cause your symptoms. part cost is around $50 not including labor.

I had the same problem with my 2001 Sportage. I even replaced the crankshaft position Sensor ($72) which was a pain to get to. I finally took it to a shop and paid $85 for them to put on a computer. They told me the ECU was bad. The Electronic Control Unit... the brain box. Also the shop told me it was covered under warranty (under some federal recall thing). I called my local Kia dealer and they confirmed. The Kia dealer covered the ECU and towing! Now it runs perfect! Pay a few bucks to get it on a computer... and don't spend all your money replacing this & that.

Have u tryed puting in new spark plugs in that's what was wrong with my girlfriends car.

Possible

Dont' forget to check the simple things first. As with any other car, your starter can turn over the engine but if you don't have air, gas and spark your car will not work.

Before anything else, you need to rule out the basics.

My answer after a month of not starting: The Timing Key. Then it fired right up!

What would cause a loud popping noise just before the car starts?

Is it a boom? If so, then the car is getting too much gas when you start it. Check the fuel injector(s) and the carburator.

If this noise is like a loud ticking at a fast pace, it would be your starter going bad. If the noise is a loud boom/pop sound from the rear of the car, it would possibly be that the exhaust is backfiring..... not sure how to fix that aspect to fix the issue.

experts said to much gas at starting...they all were wrong.car had a old battery..put in a new one and problem fixed

Can a bad knock sensor cause the car do start bad?

A knock sensor assures that you're getting as much power and fuel economy as is possible from your engine.

More details:

A knock sensor allows the engine to run with the ignition timing as far advanced as possible. The computer will continue to advance the timing until the knock sensor detects pinging. At that point the computer retards the ignition timing just enough for the pinging to stop.

The knock sensor responds to spark knock caused by Pre-detonation of the Air/Fuel mixture. As the flame front moves out from the spark plug ignition point, pressure waves in the chamber crash into the piston or cylinder walls resulting in a sound known as a knock or ping. This is caused by using a fuel with a low octane rating, overheating, or over advanced timing. Sometimes it can be caused by hot carbon deposits on the piston or cylinder head that raise compression. A knock sensor is comprised of Piezoelectric materials; Crystals that when impacted, generate a voltage (same idea as a BBQ ignitor). This voltage is monitored by the computer, and when an irregularity is detected, the computer corrects timing in VVT (variable valve timing) engines, or triggers a DTC Diagnostic Trouble Code) in older vehicles.

Car won't start unless it is jumped with cables?

Sounds like the battery needs to be replaced if it is old or the connection to the battery is lose and needs tightening. Is there corrosion around the circular connectors on top of the battery? If so, clean it off and consider replacing them if needed. That's my best guess.

Why does my 95 Buick stall then won't start for a few minutes then run for days and then stall again?

try a new coilpack assembly ,,it worked for me I had a similar problem on my 87 Century 3.8l. My Cam Position Sensor was overheating which changed the voltage and kept the car from running. I diagnosed it by pouring some cold water on the sensor when the vehicle wouldn't start and when it did I knew it was that sensor. It could also have been the Crankshaft Position Sensor. I would have chilled it next to determine this. I would also test that the the Fuel Pressure is accurate. My fuel pump worked intermittently causing the car to be hard starting when hot. ( I replaced the fuel pump and then found out about the sensors.) Good Luck!

Will your starter make a sound if the battery is bad?

solenoids are what clicks, yes it will click if the battery is low.

What is a car distributor?

The distributor handles several jobs. Its first job is to distribute the high voltage from the coil to the correct cylinder. This is done by the cap and rotor. The coil is connected to the rotor, which spins inside the cap. The rotor spins past a series of contacts, one contact per cylinder. As the tip of the rotor passes each contact, a high-voltage pulse comes from the coil. The pulse arcs across the small gap between the rotor and the contact (they don't actually touch) and then continues down the spark-plug wire to the spark plug on the appropriate cylinder. When you do a tune-up, one of the things you replace on your engine is the cap and rotor -- these eventually wear out because of the arcing. Also, the spark-plug wires eventually wear out and lose some of their electrical insulation. This can be the cause of some very mysterious engine problems.

How can you tell if your car battery is dead?

This is easy - you can determine the functionality of the alternator in less than 5-minutes. With the engine off, using a volt meter switched to measure DC current, place the red lead against the positive battery terminal/post and the black lead against the negative battery terminal/post and test the voltage. A good battery should measure around 12-volts (a good battery has a range of slightly lower to slightly higher than 12-volts). If you get within this range you have a properly charged battery and can then move to the next step and test the alternator.

Turn the engine on and again place the red lead against the positive battery terminal/post and the black lead against the negative battery terminal/post and test the voltage. The alternator is designed to generate enough voltage to replace the 12-volts of power being used by the vehicle's electrical system and charge the battery at the same time. Therefore, a properly working alternator will push about 14-volts of electricity into the system (a properly functioning alternator will generate a range of slightly lower to slightly higher than 14-volts).

If the system is generating around 14-volts with the engine running, then you can reasonably conclude that the alternator is working properly.

If you you are having battery charging problems (will not hold a charge) and the system is pushing around 14-volts with the engine running, you can then reasonably conclude that the battery needs replacing. If the system is producing less than the normal range of about 14-volts, you may need to replace the alternator. Keep in mind that a good battery may go bad if it is repeatedly used in a system in which the alternator is not working properly. If the systems tests within the normal range of 14-volts while the engine is running, replace only the alternator first and see if the battery then holds a charge. If it doesn't, then you will need to replace the battery also.

What could cause a 1992 Buick Roadmaster that has power to not start?

Automatic transmissions have separate forward & reverse clutches. Your forward clutch is likely failed - burned out, etc. I had a similar failure on an Olds Cutlass many years ago. Got the car home by driving backwards for about four blocks (not recommended!).

What are some reasons that the car will start smoking?

Smoking all the time is probably the piston rings. Smoking when you first start it is probably the valve seals. Smoke may be coolant and not oil which would mean a head gasket, cracked head or block.

What color smoke makes a difference. Black smoke, to much fuel (flooding). Blue smoke, engine oil. White smoke, engine coolant.
