Aim high in steering - The farther down the road you see while driving (and he's talking about "seeing, not just looking"), the less likely you are to have a wreck, he says, adding "Be aware of what's going on around you." Keep your eyes moving - Eye movement helps keep you from getting into a driving trance, the fixed stare of the driver whose mind is elsewhere while her/his ton of metal is moving at up to a 100 feet a second. Eye movement makes drowsiness less likely, too, and makes it more likely you'll frequently check your rear-view mirror. Get the big picture - Practices one and two help you stay aware of what's around you, but there's more, including road conditions, weather, and any changes in the condition of your vehicle, including fuel level, engine temperature, electrical systems, and any abnormal vibrations or sounds.
Make sure you are seen - You can't assume other drivers are aiming high, keeping their eyes moving, and getting the big picture. They may not have noticed that you're hurtling in their direction. Having your headlights on makes you more visible and they take no extra fuel, Ronald notes, so, "Turn 'em on," day and night. Even then, though, don't assume that other drivers have noted your presence or your turn signal that's blinking or even, heaven help us, the red light facing them as you both approach an intersection. Leave yourself an out - Where can you go (to the median? to the shoulder?) if something happens suddenly just ahead of your car? If you've been aiming high, moving your eyes around, and getting the big picture, you're more likely to know what to do when faced with the need for a sudden change in flight path. "Always try to have an escape route because it matters little who is right or wrong in bad situations, staying out of any 'mess' is the very most important thing," he writes.

AnswerHi, Try looking for a switch that should be located under the left side of the instrument panel. You may need to remove the small plastic panel under the steering column to make this a bit easirr.Sometimes a switch can be hard to see so a good light and a willingness to bend backwards to see under the instrument panel.I alsop put a blanket over the door edge and seat tracks so I don't get them in my back. How do you reset the emissions control computer on a 2001 mercury sable?
Resetting the computer, I assume, to turn of the "Check Engine" light. It should be done with a dedicated scan tool to prevent loss of the computer's Keep Alive Memory. This "KAM" is where the computer has learned your car and it's specific needs. If this memory is lost, you may have some driving issues until the computer "relearns". If you don't have access to the proper tool, you can also disconnect the battery ground terminal and leave it detached for roughly 30 seconds to reset the computer. Caution! Many new cars have anti theft systems in their audio systems and will lock the radio if the battery is disconnected. Be sure you have the code to unlock it when you're done. Also, many new models have to be retaught some systems after the battery is disconnected and won't run at all well. Be sure your's isn't one of them before following this generic advice.

What would cause check transmission light to come on on a 2007 Ford Taurus?

How do you reset service engine soon warning light on a 2003 Diamante?
Before you reset (erase all stored trouble codes) have the OBDII system scanned and the trouble codes retrieved. Resetting can be done with the OBDII scan tool, or by disconnecting the NEGATIVE battery cable for a couiple of minutes. Disconnecting the cable on some vehicles causes other performance codes to also be erased and the vehicle may run rough for a few miles until the computer "re-learns" the settings.
What causes a check engine light on a 2001 ford focus?
The computer turns that light on to tell you that a fault has been detected and the fault code has been stored. Use an automotive code scanner to determine what's wrong. If it's still running well, I'd suspect something like the oxygen sensor, throttle position sensor or any of a number of potential problems. The computer WILL tell you, you just need to know how to ask.
i have a 1999 Camry and basicly the same thing is happening. i took it to a service dealer and i was told it was from over filling the gas tank. gas runs down the vent line and screws up a sensor in there of some kind i was told it doesnt affect the operation of the vehicle at all. it is around 190.00 to fix the problem so for now i have decided to live with it
AnswerMy "check engine light" went on and off intermittently (no pattern). The manual's first answer is that the gas cap may not be on tight enough, or is faulty, a common problem. A shop with a diagnostic machine can check this. Unfortunately, had to go to the manual's second answer, "see your dealer". My shop's scanner said I had a "faulty oxygen sensor", a much more serious problem, but not an emergency (yet). Gave me technical info on a recall for this part, up to 96 months or 80,000 miles. Answer(another 1999 Camry owner)Today, my check engine light went on immediately after filling my gasoline tank. It stayed on even after driving another 30 miles, with several turning off the engine and re-starting. Thank goodness for the answer above about the over-filled gas tank. After reading this, I simply disconnected my battery for a few minutes to reset the light. After re-connecting the battery, the light was no longer on. I figure the excess gas has evaporated from the vent line. This site saved me $$$$$, and wasting time at the dealer. P.S. I had read a dozen other sites about check engine lights in Camrys, but no other site brought up the situation of the gas tank over-fill. Thank you. What makes the service engine soon light stay on?
SES or service engine soon light will come on and stay on if the powertrain control module has set and engine diagnostic code. The code can only be read by a or reset with a hand held terminal that hook to the cars computer. Your best bet is to disconect the battery and leave it off for a few minutes. This will clear the code and if it is somthing important the SES light will come back on, indicating a trip the the dealer is warrented. Good luck!
AnswerYou can also use a paperclip and connect the two spots in the top row of the OBD connector. This will make the lights flash after several seconds. It will flash then have a pause and flash again. Say it flashes four times then pasuses and flashes three more times that maskes the code 43. You can then search the net for the codes.I had the same problem. The cooling fan wasn't running, so the engine over-heated. The lever (bi-level, a/c, defrost, etc) needs to be on so the fan will engage. The fan is tied into that system. one of a few things it could be.. "sensors" if you pick up a book at a part store it will have values of all the different sensors in it .. by hooking up a simple ohm's meter u can check the values if there off more than .01 -.05 it's going to be a bad sensor u can use this on pretty much all gm and ford sensors if i had to guess i would say start with a coolant temp sensor it's the sensor just below the water inlet housing ....
try checking EGR valve
What would cause a dome light not to come on in Ford van?

Where or how do you reset the check engine light on a 1991 Geo Tracker?
Generally, if you unhook the negative cable on the battery for a few minutes, the light will go off(reset). However,if you have a existing problem with one of the sensors, etc., the light will go on again after a short time . I hope this helps you. Mark My 91 2D 4WD 1600 8V had a slide switch located behind the removable panel below the steering column. The computer sends a "check engine" code periodically on some of the older Trackers to get you to take it to the dealership when there's absolutely nothing wrong (no codes come up...). Sliding this switch to the -other- position with the key on and engine stopped will reset the "check engine" light. This experience cost me $10 from a friendly garage mechanic who actually had a reader for the 91 ECU. When he saw no codes, he figured it out, went looking for and found the silly switch. I was impressed and he now does maintenance on all my vehicles. Hope this also helps! Cass1959
Will the check engine light ALWAYS come on if the oxygen sensor is bad?

How do you check service engine soon codes on a 1995 Chevy Blazer 4.3L V6 4x4 2-dr?
Some Auto Parts store now have the tools to read codes
Yes, as long as the engine is not in gear and a brake is enabled.
A "Parked" car is defined as: a setting in an automatic transmission in which the transmission is in neutral and the brake is engaged. (http:/dictionary.reference.com/browse/park)
Therefore it would suffice to say that a car is parked once the wheels are locked via some sort of brake and the engine is not in gear (park or neutral). The lights being on is irrelevant.
Concerning California law: It is illegal to leave your vehicle unattended on the highway without first turning off the engine and enabling a brake.
