Electric Windows

The first electric windows were introduced in 1940 as an alternative to the hand-turned windows. These car windows can be lowered and raised by pressing a switch or button. Electric windows are designed for convenience and safety.

How do you remove the door panel to a 1994 Toyota Land Cruiser to get to the window motor etc?

It's pretty easy, the door panel pops into place, but you'll first need to remove the handles, by unscrewing the screws holding them in. You'll also need to pop open the switch panel on the door, you can do that with a flathead screwdriver. Then unhook the harness, make sure everything is unscrewed and pop it out of its holes in the door frame.

How do you replace power window switch 2004 dodge stratus?

To replace the window switch in your 2004 Dodge Intrepid you need to remove the door panel. Once the door panel is removed there are two T-20 Torx screws that hold the switch to the door panel.

I have included a step by step auto repair video below, that shows how to accomplish this.

Can you replace the rear driver side window regulator in a '95 Marquis by yourself or should you pay someone?

It is not one of the easiest repairs. The factory uses rivets instead of screws so that the the average person would have to take it back to the dealer to have it repaired. They do not make a lot of profit when they sell you the car but they are hoping to make a little each time you bring it back for repairs. You can force the center of the rivets out then drill the heads off but you will have to have bolts, nuts and lockwashers to reinstall the motors/regulators.

1992 Ford Explorer Power window does not work on the driver side all the other power windows work there was a clunking noise when you would roll them down any help on troubleshooting or replacing it?

A repair kit will work on several different FORD/MERCURY/MAZDA Vehicles. If you can hear the motor spin but it will not raise or lower your glass it most likely needs a new gear kit. This kit includes three (3) bushings (torque bushings)and the nylon gear. The nylon gear shell (62 spline) is usually alright. Kits are available for about $5-$15 on eBay ( keywords = power window motor kit) and now at a parts store (those little "HELP" displays carry them). Remove the inner panel on the door. The window regulator will have to be removed (by drilling out 3 1/4 inch factory rivets)and the cover on the drive motor to access the gear (3 screws). Clean out all the broken up bushings and thoroughly clean the area around the worm gear. Assemble the (3) new bushings with a light coat of white grease or synthetic grease is available. REPLACE THE COVER. REINSTALL THE REGULATOR ( I have done this using 3 1/4 x 20 x 1/2 rounded head screws with self-locking nuts ( rounded head facing towards the inside of the car ( WHEN THE DOOR IS CLOSED)

The fuse is good so why won't the power windows work on 95 Jeep GC?

Defective relay, switch, or motor. Open the driver door. Pull back the rubber boot covering the wire bundle and you'll probably find at least one broken wire. Splice in a new piece. Be sure to check the others that you can for signs of wear. broken wires was the problem.

Why won't the passenger side power window go up evenly?

There are a few things that could cause this problem. The motor is wearing out, the wiring is not connected correctly, the window is off track, or there is an obstruction.

How do you get the power window on a 1992 Toyota Camry back on track?

Hi, I have a 92 Camry v6LE with the same problem, now on 3 windows. It just slides down and won't come up. I'm just now opening up the window to look inside, and as far as I can tell the cable is not doing what it should; it's loose. I wish there were a description about how this is supposed to work, so I could tell what's wrong. Sorry this isn't an answer, but it could point to where to look: possibly the cable mechanism is screwed up.

I have a 2000 Nissan Xterra how do you disconnect and reinstall the drivers door window switch unit?

There are 2 armrest pads on the left door panel- the smaller armrest to the rear and one towards the front which contains the master window and door lock switch. It contains 6 toggle switches for the 4 windows, the master door lock switch, and the lock out for the other 3 windows.

Pull the smaller rear armrest from the end towards the rear of the car up until the clip releases. Then pull it back so the front tang releases. Then pull the front of the front armrest with the master switch up until the clip releases and then forward to release the rear tang. You can then release the electrical connector from the underside of the master switch. If you want to remove the switch from the pad, there are 4 Phillips screws on the underside.

How do you get the rear left window back on track for a 1999 Buick Regal LS?

It's not on a track, the 1999 Regal windows have cables, therefore, you will have to replace the window motor.

Could it be a fuse problem if on a 1994 Honda Accord LX the driver side automatic window will roll down but will not roll up?

Just had my son's door apart for much the same problem. Two cables attach to the window. One winds up as the other pays out and vise- versa. If your window only goes one way then more than likely a cable has detached from the window. That is what I found when I removed the door panel. .

How to replace window motor in 2000 dodge caravan?

Actually, Chrysler made this task pretty easy because the motor sits between the inner metal door skin and the door panel. The ardest thing is getting the door panel off with out breaking all of the door clips.

BUT, first before you order a new motor or regulator (BTW,the cheapest price I found is on eBay) , disconnect the motor's harness and see if you are not getting juice at the connector. Install a voltmeter or light bulb between one of the two slots and ground and try the switch (make sure the ignition is on) then try the other slot to ground. If you get juice, your motor isn't working. Now let's check a little further: Cut off the plastic tie on the motor and remove the two screws holding the magnetic field housing and remove the housing exposing the armature. With you fingers turn the armature to determine that it is free. Lift up the armature so the the commutator is just free of the brushes. Take a Q-tip in some solvent and clean the commutator till the copper color is showing. Make sure the brushes are free to move and press the brush lead away from the motor shaft to allow the brushes to move forward as much as the can. insert the armature back into its original position making sure that the brushes are pushed back with a small probe. Next slide the field housing back over the armature and replace the two screws and reconnect the wiring harness. Now try the motor! If it doesn't work, you only wasted five minutes. If it does work you may have saved a lot. It may last longer than you need especially if you lighten up on using that window. It will usually give you warning of future failing, which you probably ignored before.

How do you fix the electric window motor on a 1996 Taurus?

I just replaced the right rear window motor on a 1994 Taurus, which had rusted shut--the 1996 should be similar enough. I don't know if it's practical to try to fix a bad motor of this sort, and I doubt if you need a brand new motor (if they're still sold), so it's probably best that you buy a used one from a car junkyard (where you can also experiment with removing the junker's door panel, etc.). While performing this repair, keep in mind that the Taurus has a button on the driver's door armrest that can turn off power to the window motors on all doors, so make sure that button isn't flipped to the window lock position. Removing the plastic panel from the door will break the 11 or 12 plastic retainers holding the panel to the door, so if you want to reattach the plastic panel to the door in the proper fashion after you're done, buy replacements at an auto parts store. If the 1996 is like the 1994, the replacement retainers carried by Kragen are part # 454750, which is a box of six--get two boxes, since you may need 12 retainers. • Unscrew and remove the doorlock plunger. • Remove the two screws that hold the plastic panel in place: one behind the door handle, and another one elsewhere I believe--you should be able to see it easily. • Next, you'll pull the plastic panel off the metal door. You may find it handy to use a long flatblade screwdriver or similar tool to help pull the plastic retainers out of the metal door. • Once you've removed the plastic panel, you may find it easier to continue if you unplug the electrical cables between the plastic panel and the door, to allow you to set the plastic panel aside. • You should now be able to see the motor inside the door. Remove the three bolts holding it in place, then lift out the motor and unplug its electrical cable. • Plug the replacement motor into the electrical cable coming out of the door, then squirt some WD-40 or similar lubricant around the edges of the motor gear disc. Then make sure the replacement motor works properly, by pressing the window up/down button on the door panel, to see if the motor rotates. If it rotates properly, install the replacement motor. You'll need to mesh the replacement motor's gear teeth with the gear teeth inside the door, which can be tricky, requiring you to press the up/down button several times to rotate the gear teeth inside the door into the proper position, and you'll need to apply some force to push the motor in place, until the teeth mesh and you see the window go up and down as you press the window up/down button. Once the teeth mesh, reinstall the three bolts that hold the motor in place, then press the window up/down button several more times to make sure everything works. • After you've replaced the motor, replace all the broken door panel retainers on the inside surface of the panel, then push the panel back into place (making sure each retainer goes into its hole on the door), then reinstall the panel's two screws, then the doorlock plunger. • Drive down the street with the repaired window motor rolled down, singing or yelling, so everyone can see what a great job you just did.

How do you repair power window on a 1997 Z24?

You must first take off the door panel, by removing all door panel screws. Then you have to remove the two lower bolts that hold the window in and remove the window. Then you must drill out the rivets that are holding the power window motor in place, unplug it and remove it through one of the holes in the door ( remove the plastic covering) For re installation it is a bit tricky, have to transfer a couple parts onto the new unit with screws or rivets, and putting the window motor in, you need big rivets or possibly short bolts but they are hard to get in. Then plug it back in and put the window back in, and do up the two bolts that hold the window on. Good luck.

The motor is attached to the window actuator and must be installed as a unit. there are several parts houses that carry the part. It seems that you are a bit of a back yard mechanic who hasn't really had an opportunity to get to really know your car. With the door panels costing over $400.00 dollars to replace if you mess one up, I suggest you take your vette to a trusted mechanic to do the work.
