How do you replace a burned out third brake light on a '96 Grand Am SE?

from the trunk look up towards where the lamp is there you will see a two/three wire connection/socket at the lamp... turn the connection/socket about 1/4 to 1/2 turn to the left and pull down slightly you'll find a burnt out bulb...... replace and re-install connector/socket in the reverse of removal..... P.S. Dont get locked in the trunk..... lol

if your lamp is on the top of your rear window then either carefully snap off the cover from inside the vehicle that covers the lamp or remove 2-3 screws from the cover (if applicable) and there you will find the bulb.....

ya out!!!!

How do you remove the ignition switch from a 1997 Pontiac Sunfire SE with no tilt steering?

There is a recall on '97 sunfires ignition switches. My car wouldn't start and after trying it several times smoke started coming from the ignition column. they will install a relay switch w/ your ignition switch to convert high voltage away from it. If it doesn't start and you continually try it or hold it back too long it will start to burn as mine did A Pontiac dealership fixed it for free but I had to fight them on the towing costs. I would do a search on the recall or call a Pontiac/GM dealership and they can tell you if it goes towards yours... you!

Also check for other recalls such as the PCM recall.

Where is the starter located on a 2002 grand am v-6 and it simple to replace?

The starter can be seen from under the car and is located just in front of the oil pan and the nose of it more to the drivers side of the motor (edge of the motor and transmission). It has a round motor you will see and two wires will be bolted on to it. It is not hard to change just disconnect your battery fist, remove the nuts that hold the wires on and there are two bolt that hold the starter on to the engine. One is at the bottom of the starter and the other is up the side towards the front of the car (both on the nose of the starter)

How do you reset the oil change light on a 1994 Chevy Corvette?

To reset the oil light, put the key in the ignition and turn to accessory setting (but do not start the car) Push the English/Metric button twice and then push and hold the "Gauges" button. The "Change Oil" light will flash for about 15-20 seconds and then go out. Release the button and turn key off.

When you turn the key back on, the light should be out. If it is not, repeat the above steps.

How do you replace spark plug number 6 on an 2003 Nissan Xterra you have a 10 extention and don't seem to be able to get to get to it Please help?

Answer:I just did this job on a 2002 Nissan Xterra. First of all you should consider yourself very mechanically inclined before attempting to replace this spark plug. Remember, if you destroy the cylinder head threads your in for a $2500.00 plus bill to have it repaired or an enormous amount of labor for yourself. You can mess up a spark plug taking it out just as easily as installing it. Many spark plugs remain in cars these days for 80,000 plus miles or more before being removed which can make them that much more difficult to remove if you don't know what you're doing. Step one is to lay several blankets over the engine so you'll be comfortable while doing this job. Wear two layers of rubber surgical gloves to protect your hands. Unclip and move whatever lines you can above the spark plug boot to give you as much room as possible. Next using a very small plastic squirt bottle of break free oil drip around 40 drops or so of oil over the top of the plug after you remove the spark plug boot of course. Use a mechanics round inspection mirror and small flashlight to ensure that you have a small puddle of oil around the base of the plug. Let the oil sit for an hour. Next take a six point 5/8 inch swivel spark plug socket and insert over the plug. You should be able to barley slide the socket over the top of the plug. Ensure that the socket has grabbed the plug. Next snap a 2" extension on the swivel socket, now snap a 3/8" swivel adapter on top of the 2" extension. Finally, snap an 8 inch extension on to the swivel adapter. Now using a 3/8 ratchet very slowly break the torque on the spark plug. Make sure your going in right direction. After breaking the torque on the plug turn ratchet 1/2 turn and let sit for 10 minutes so oil can seep through the spark plug threads. Next snug plug back up and break free again and this time you should be able to tell that the plug will unscrew very easily. Before removing plug take a blow gun with a long neck and try your best to blast out the oil and any debree near the bottom of the plug. Cleanliness is key with spark plugs. After you have the plug out be sure that the old crush washer came out with the plug. In most cases it will. Now take the new plug and lube the threads with a small amount of anti-seize lubricant. Insert the new plug into just the 5/8 inch spark plug swivel socket and be sure the rubber gasket within the swivel socket is holding the plug in place. Next using just your left hand screw the new plug into the cylinder head. This may take a while until you are able to achieve the right angle so the threads with mate. You should be able to almost bottom out the plug with just the torque from your hand. ONLY use your hand so you don't cross thread the plug. To help you can first put some tape on top of the swivel socket to give your fingers some friction while installing the plug. This is a very long answer, but this job is a MAJOR pain in the neck that can turn into a disaster if you aren't careful. I've been a licensed aircraft mechanic for 20 years and this was the hardest plug I've EVER changed.

I've found an easier way to remove the #4 plug and maybe all of them for that matter...

Do this:

Instead of all the small extensions and swivels... Use a 3/8's in. ratchet attached directly to a flexible 8" extension (and another 8" solid extension if needed) connected to a spark plug socket w/o a swivel. Use duct tape in the same manner... You can really feel the plug moving and reduce any problems with broken plugs or crossed threads. It worked like a charm... Surprised the hell out of me because the flexible extensions usually cannot take the torque, but the spark plug cavity keeps the extension from distorting. Less force needed on removal and I got an honest 18 ft lbs easily when tightening!!

What does check engine code on P0446 Chevy Prizm?

Answer - Fuel Injection & Emissions SysThis refers to the fuel injector and emissions system. For the 2002 model, see your book that came with the car, page 2-56, in the "gages" section. Some auto parts shops offer free use of a computer diagnostic device, that plugs into the computer under the dash (a white jack on the 2002). Just plug it in, carefully, like when installing items into the back of your computer. Aim to to match which side it is facing, in other words. It'll then tell you codes, which include for emissions, the PO446 you cite, and PO440 and PO441, for example.

Just because you read a code does Not mean that is what is wrong. There are diagnostic steps to take so you do not replace unessary parts. The problem can be as simple as a cracked vacuum hose.jd

Ive had the same code and code PO441 both PO441 and PO446 are only regarding the emissions system not the fuel injectors! mine was the purge solinoid light went out then came back on 4wks later there are a number of things it could be but from things ive read about this is other Chevy prizm owners have had the same constant problems. take it in and have a smoke test done. good luck!!

Where is the water pump on a 95 Pontiac Grand Am?

it depends on what engine you have. it's either in the timing chain casing or it's in line with your drive belt. fallow the hoses coming out of the radiator. if they lead into a unit that is driven by the belt the that is you water pump and you are in luck.
if it is a 2.4L then it is driven by the timing chain... then you have to remove you motor mount on passengers side. then you have to remove the timing chain cover on the same side as the motor mount. you will then have to completely remove the timing chain. you will see a little gear, about 3" in diameter. this is the gear for the water pump. you can unbolt it from behind the casing. but either way you will have to reline your timing chain and have the cam gears and crank gear lined up right.
if it is a 2.4l the you HAVE TO get a manual. they are only $20 bucks. it will give you a step by step. it's not easy but it's no impossible. and if you do have a manual then any time you have a question the you can just refer to it. good luck and i really hope it's not a 2.4!!

the water pump is on the side of the motor

How do you know when the brakes need to be replaced on a 1999 Toyota Camry and how much should the job cost for both the front and back pads and rotors?

When the linings are about 1/32" or so. The cost of replacing a part is a very general question that unless specified exactly is hard to answer. First, is who is replacing the part? Is the Dealer, an independent repair shop, a junkyard, the guy next door or you doing the replacement. These will all yield different prices. Not to mention that within all of these will be different labor rates and different part price mark ups. Second, what is the quality of the part? Is it a name brand, generic (white box, economy), OEM or used part? All of these will be different. Price will even differ between name brands, sometimes significantly. Thirdly, What is the warranty of the part and who is offering the warranty (the shop the parts house or the manufacturer). Limited Lifetime will have restrictions. Lifetime warranty isn
