Heating AC and Engine Cooling

Heating, air conditioning (AC) and engine cooling require a radiator to transfer heat. Heating a cabin requires heat to be transferred from an engine block. Engine cooling blows the heat out of the engine. AC uses refrigerants to cool air.

How does a blown head gasket sounds?

A blown head gasket usually allows coolant into the cylinder, so it might not make any noise but it will cause the coolant to go low, saturate the oil with coolant, create white smoke,(actually steam).Pressure testing the cooling system is the best way to find out if that is the problem.

Can you interchange radiators with other models and years?

yes as long as the radiator will fit in the same place and holds at least the same amount of coolant if a bigger capacity radiator is used, you will get better cooling in extreme high temps

What parts do you have to take off to replace the head gasket?

Usually the intake manifold, exhast manifolds, rocker covers, and anything else that may be bolted to the head itself. Plus any other wiring or sensors. Also don't forget to drain the water, and make sure that you mark the timing marks if it is a 4 cylinder or OHC engine

What would cause the engine to overheat and the heater to stop blowing warm air in a 93 3.8L Ford Taurus?

Could also be bad radiator cap.

No anti freeze first. There was a recall for a bypass hose if that wasn't done it maybe the recurring nightmare

I think the reaccuring nightmare may refer to headgaskets which are common on the 3.8 ford motors. First get some coolant in it, run it and see if there are leaks. Also check you oil, is it milkshake colored? or way overfull? post your results

Agree that it could be a likely head gasket leak. I encountered the problem after buying a new radiator and cap which was also needed. However with the new radiator adding additional pressure to the system, the head gasket then failed. A sure sign is white exhaust smoke and blowing moisture (anti freeze) out of the tailpipe. Head gasket problems are notorius in high mileage 3.8 engines.

Another potential problem could be a clogged cooling system. If the anti freeze is brownish rust and has the odor of burnt rubber you can be sure your system is sluggish. Be aware that flushing could enchance the problem and cause leaks depending how long the system has been sluggish. The heater core is the worst enemy in this situation being that it is small and they are difficult to flush successfully and the problem can re-occur requiring more than one flush attempt.

This didn't happen to my taurus, but to my 93 caravan. maybe they're close. the engine overheated like you said, and the heater stopped working (not fun in the dead of winter) long story short, the coolant hose to/from (can't remember which) the heater had burst, check that by having someone turn the car on and off while you look in there. hope that helps

your engine's thermostat, when it goes bad, the engine take so long to warm up and also the system don't blow hot air anymore

Probably the thermostat.

This can also be caused by allowing the coolant level to get so low that air gets into the system causing a "vapor lock" condition. Solution: get rid of the air by refilling the radiator. Unfortunately many of today's cars don't have filler caps on the radiator itself, just on the reservoir. Might be able to use the top radiator hose.

How do you change the cabin air filter for 2004 Chevrolet venture?

Hi,

The cabin air filters (there are 2 in the set) are located at the back of the glove box. There are two separate panels that have to be opened to get to them. Once you have the panels removed or open, you will slide the first filter out, then slide the second filter over and out.

Reverse the process to install the new filters, making sure that the first filter you install does not fall down when you slide it into position.

I have included a link that shows pictures of the location and instructions on how to replace them.

Good Luck, Greg

Are raves fun?

If you like lots and lots of drugs, mainly EX, and sex, and lots of "rubbers" or feel-E people.

Why is only warm or cold air blowing when the heat is all the way on?

Thermostat stuck in the open position or heater core clogged. Replace the thermostat and see where you stand. This would also be a good time to replace any coolant hose that needs replacing and to flush the cooling system and change the coolant. Could also need to change your radiator cap

Where is the sensor that sends the signal to the cooling fan to make it turn on for a 1993 Saturn SC2 coupe?

I just replaced the sensor on my 1998 Saturn SL2.. The temperature sensor/switch is inline with the spark plugs on the drivers side on the engine block and has 2 wires coming from it to the wiring harness. It takes a 13mm deep well socket to remove the sensor. The wires just unplug from the sensor by using a screwdriver to raise the tabs off. simple.

Why does my 2003 Chevy Tracker with 20 engine die after it gets hot but restarts OK after cooling for 10 minutes?

how about checking to see if you need a new thermostat in your radiator for the first step, also make sure you have plenty of radiator fluid, also you may need an oil change, this includes your oil filter, also could be due time for a tune up, belts, as well as all other filters could cause problems in your vehicle. but if your engine is dying after its hot and okay after cooling for a few its most likely a radiator/thermostat problem.

How to replace blower resistor in 2002 olds intrigue?

A blower resistor can be replaced, in your 2002 Oldsmobile, by removing the resistor wiring. Remove the retaining screws. Reverse the process to install the new resistor.

How do you replace the cabin filter on a 2004 Nissan Frontier?

Remove the glove box door (six screws). Remove the metal spring clip that hold the two filters into the air duck directly behind the glove box. There are two filters, one above the other. Pull the lower filter out first by pulling it directly toward you. The top filter will slide downward to the bottom of the slot. Pull it out also. Replace with two new filters, but putting one into the slot and pushing it upward to the top of the slot. Then while holding the top filter in place, push the lower filter into position. The lower filter holds the top filter up in place. Replace the metal spring clip on the lower filter.

1992 Ford Explorer4.0 liter Just put new radiator in and therm and the temp gauge goes up and down Not overheating staying cool and computer says low reading on maf sensor. Why and how can I fix this?

have maf code cleared on the computer. flush you water system again, that should include the heater core. What the maf has to do with the raditor i don't know it just may be one thing that just happened. it could be the sensor itself, the throttle body needs to be cleaned. hope it helps. duboff

How do you remove the engine cooling fan on a 1997 Tahoe?

It takes a special wrench (available @ most parts houses). The large hex, close to the pulley , must be un-screwed. The 4 small bolts only hold on the pulley. If I remember correctly, it is a left-hand thread.

What is the cost to replace intake manifold gasket set on 2001 Chevy Malibu?

The actual part ( the manifold gasket set ) runs about 80-100 dollars ( i called around got some quotes from Napa , Oriley...etc. ) but the main cost comes from labor, and there is a lot of it! You basically have to take the engine apart to get to the lower one. Overall, ( and i jsut had mine changed out two weeks ago ) the cost is around 700 dollars at a Chevy dealership. I have seen prices near and above $1000 from other smaller auto shops.

Are 1995 Lincoln town cars with 4 6 dohc known for cracked heads?

Never owned one and have never seen one but, Town cars have only SOHC and have never come with a DOHC... So "they" say.

You may have gotten a replacement motor installed in your car and not the original.

How much would it cost to fix an AC that only blows out warm air?

You might be able to do it yourself for not much money. Go to a local auto parts retailer and see if they have a small inexpensive AC pressure gauge. If you can get one, check the pressure level in your ac system, and if it's low, you probably can buy a can or two of refrigerant to top off the refrigerant. Make sure you use a gauge so that you don't overfill the system, otherwise you'll cause other problems, but with a little care and reading the directions, you should be able to repair it yourself if the problem isn't too severe. Of course, there is the possibility that there are more serious problems, in which case you'll need to spend a little more money, but if it's just low, that's an easy fix.

What are the disadvantages of a liquid cooled engine?

Heavier, more parts to make and maintain, liquid coolant can be corrosive to metals and can leak/ dry up. Must use antifreeze during cold weather.
