There should be an access panel on the inside of the door which covers and inside door release mechanism. ed724 You need to remove the bottom panel (the panel below the rear window). To do this, get into the van (it helps to remove the rear seats), pop the plastic cover over the pull-down strap (this cover actually slides up), and the covers on both sides of the handle (these covers will pop from the front; use a flat-head screwdriver, insert it from the top). Once you get the covers off, remove the bolts using a 10mm socket. Remove the panel. I found out that it's easiest to remove the panel by pulling out from the bottom. Don't worry about pulling it. It's held only by pull-out pins. Once the cover is off, locate the latch. Just pull up on it and it should unlatch. Be careful not to fall off the rear of the van. Nando

X reg doors have a different wiring harness to W reg doors, swap red wire with blue wire and the door will work in sinc with other doors. renault dealership

You can still pull the cable. Reach under the dash you should be able to find it

OK, I'm assuming you can lock/unlock the doors with the door pins. If so, you will need to pull one of the door lock cylinders (preferably the passenger door because it gets used less) and take it too a locksmith and have him make a key to fit it.

Most programmable features on modern vehicles are changed through a simple button dance, this is no exception.

The procedure may vary depending on the model year.

Automatic Door Locks

With the vehicles engine off, and the ignition in the Lock position, press and hold the power door lock button for approximately three seconds until the DIC displays the current door lock mode. Then press and hold the reset stem for approximately two seconds to switch modes. The following are the mode choices:

Lock 1 (default)

Lock all doors when the vehicle is shifted out of PARK(P) with an automatic transmission, or when the vehicle speed is greater than 15 MPH (24 hm/h) with a manual transmission. Doors will unlock when the vehicle is shifted into PARK(P) with an automatic transmission, or when the ignition key is removed on a manual transmission.

Lock 2

Turns off the automatic door locks

Lock 3

Lock all doors when the vehicle is shifted out of PARK(P) with an automatic transmission, or when the speed is greater than 15 MPH(24km/hr) with a manual transmission. Drivers door will unlock when the vehicle is shifted into PARK(P) with an automatic transmission, or when the ignition key is removed on a manual transmission.

Lock 4

Lock all doors when the vehicle is shifted out of PARK(P) with an automatic transmission, or when the vehicle speed is greater than 15 MPH (24 km/hr) with a manual transmission. No doors will unlock

If no spare set exists, you will want to contact a locksmith who will use a device to go under the window and pop your lock. This will run you between $50 to $200 depending on your location. You may have roadside assitance that came with the car and/or if you belong to an auto club. Not a member? You can call 1-800-AAA-HELP and become a member. This will count as one of your 3 roadside assistance calls included eith your annual membership. The membership is generally under $100 a year.

With cable ties or velcro band

its your actuators you can buy this part for about 800 but you should ask some one at your part store for best brand to buy. Also, buy a guide book on your model car to learn about the door panels which are not the hard to deal with

From Blustg: The door actuators are held in from the factory with only rivets. After many operations these rivets will elongate and the travel of the actuator is not always enough to make up for that. Need to take off the door panel and replace the rivets with short screws and nuts. The screws are short so they do not interfere with other things moving inside the door.

Try using a coat hanger with the ends cut off and bend it into shape to get under the hood and pull the cable release.

I'm having the same difficulty on my 2005 Freestyle. The latch freezes, and when I go to shut the door, it just bounces back open. I have had some success blowing a blow dryer into the latch mechanism. It is only temporary though. It seems that there's some moisture in the mechanism, or some other supply of moisture getting to the mechanism (perhaps some ice frozen in the window seal that's melting, dripping, and refreezing). Some quick internet research has seemed to yield the following steps which I'll try this evening. 1. Eliminate any source of water getting into the door. 2. Blow dry for an extended period of time. Enough to dry the inside of the door out. 3. Check the drain holes at the bottom of the door to ensure that they are open and draining. Good luck.

I had a similar problem on a 93 Regal. I took the plastic housing off where the hood release originally was and was able to get a grip on the release cable. The cable goes out of the cabin near the steering column so you might be able to back track from that point. I would spring for a new cable though as it is a real pain opening the hood with the pliers. I taped the new cable to the old one and snaked thru the engine compartment pretty easily. Good luck.

To get it to creep into nooks and crannies well it has a fair percentage of solvents and other chemicals too. These greatly degrade the lubricating properties when compared to a regular oil.

Depends on the cause. If cable is broken, bend a coat hanger to snag the cable still attached to the hood latch and pull it out. You should be able to open the hood simply by pulling hard. If it has become disconnected, like I am dealing with now, it will depend on the make & model as to whether you can release the latch from underneath with a long screwdriver to having to unbolt the latch mechanism after removing the grill.

These cars have hoods that open on the windshield side with the hinge toward the bumper. Apparently I'm not the only one having this problem Generally, cars have a manual hood release latch just inside the grill of the car, under the hood.

If you do not have a spare key then it would be best to call a locksmith. He will not damage anything inside of the door.

The hood release mechanism under the hood is very secure from outside the car.

First, remove the plastic grill by removing screws and snap in fasteners. This can be done from the outside and from the front of the grill.

Next, the cover over the release mechanism must be forcibly opened up to access the mechanism inside. There is an existing small opening on the left side of the cover (facing vehicle) that can be widened by using a screw driver or small nose pliers to bend the metal back.

A long, flat tip screwdriver or a skinny punch can be used to reach in to the widened opening to either unhook the spring or push the release lever that the cable would normally pull. To push the release lever, the tool would be held horizontal and pushed to the right (when facing the front of the car). It is not necessary to remove the mechanism in order to open the hood.

(1) Open the liftgate. (2) Remove the trim cover and latch mounting screws. (3) disconnect the actuating rod - detach electrical connectors (if any) - then remove latch from liftgate. Installation is the reverse of removal.

you should go to your dealer to get it programmed.i don't think it will cost a penny While you could do that, the answer is on page 22 of the owner's manual, along with a number of other settings using the data access function (buttons one and two on the turn signal stalk.)

I got my 2003 330xi to 'automatically lock the doors while driving' by opening the door manually with the key (stick the key in the driver's door and manually unlock it). After that, the doors will automaticlly lock when you go over ~10mph or so. If you unlock the door with your radio key (remotely by pushing the button) it won't work. Crazy, I know, but try it! when you turn the key in the passenger door lift the handle at the same time turn the key fully to left on a right hand drive beamer you should now be able to get in.

I have a 525i and I was told by a BMW tech that even if you do not have power to open the doors you can manually use the key on the passenger side door by turning it pas the normal area it will unlock that door. I have read that the early E34 series cars have issues with the mechanisms in the doors that unlock the doors. Does this happen to all doors or just some of them?

These models came stock with a release button below the cigarette lighter. If you look directly to the right of the radio there should be a button to push that will release the glass and then once its open, your tailgate should open once you do it manually.
