Radiators

This is according to the make and model of your vehicle. Some are metric.

THERE SHOULD BE A PLUG ON THE BOTTOM OF THE RAD

After driving and warming up your engine turn off your engine. After engine is off turn the key back to the on position and open the hood. The fan should still be running. Chances are if it isn't, a fuse is probably blown.

Look atr bottom or rear of radiator

1. Get a new radiator hose

2. Turn off your car and let it cool down

3. drain your radiator below the level of te hose you are replacing

4. remove hose clamps and take off old radiator hose

5. install new radiator hose and tighten hose clamps

6. Fill radiator with antifreeze / water mixture (you can buy the premixed kind if you dont want to mix it yourself)

7. replace radiator cap

8. turn on car and check for leaks

Radiator fan could be bad, fan relay bad, fuse blown. Also if your ECT (engine coolant temperature) sensor is bad the ECM (computer) won't know to tell the fan to turn on.

Drain the antifreeze and flush it with a garden hose through one of the heater hoses. Be sure to properly dispose of the old antifreeze. Once the water comes out clear flush it through the hose the other way. It bad cases put a bottle of CLR (calcium, lime, rust home cleaning product) in the radiator mixed with the clean water and run the car at idle for 30 minutes with the CLR. Then flush it again, drain as much water as you can. You will still have some water stuck in the engine block so fill the vehicle with the specified amount of antifreeze with straight (not premixed antifreeze and top it off with water. Run it and check it again in a couple of weeks, in really bad cases it may take a few times of doing this to clear up the problem.

The automatic transmission oil cooler is built into the radiator. If the oil cooler developes a leak the oil mixes with the engine coolant.

Depends, do you have a radiator cap on the radiator or is your cooling system ran from the overflow tank? if you have a cap on the radiator then the answer is pretty obvious, open the cap and pour it in. if you don't have a cap on the radiator, then you will have to remove the upper radiator hose to pour the stop leak directly in the radiator. i wouldn't try putting the stop leak in the overflow because it may not all get into the radiator thus making it less effective and could possibly even clog the lines.

i had this same question and i finally found the answer so i thought i'd come back and share with you. i have a 1996 3.1 corsica and the radiator has no cap. i was thinking you could pour it in from one of the hose outlets but wasn't sure.

drain is on the lower side of the radiator opposite of the fill neck. You will need to remove the splash shield from underneath the car to view the petcock. check out www.pontiacbonnevilleclub.com for more info.

radiator drain valve is located at the bottom of the radiator, there is an access hole through splash guard.

Hi . Dont take this as gosple cause i havent done this yet. First you need to locate the drain for the rad. Some one on this site suggested that it may be on the right corner of the rad when you are facing the car. Seems you need to attach a piece of hose to it for proper drainagee since it comes out of the side or somewhere there abouts???????. There may also be another drainage hole located somewhere on the engine block somewhere on the passinger side . Now, I am not sure of this so I am going to check for myself. Now, if you manage to locate all these dranage holes then the rest is easy. Remove the coolant cap when the engine is cool, open all the dranage holes and let all the coolant escape. Pour in rad flush,tap up with WATER (clean)and run engine with AC on high fir about ten minutes. Open drainage and let everthing out>. Fill engine with clean water and run for another ten minutes then drain> Mix 50/50 dex-cool and water and fill to just below cold mark. Turn engine on let warm up, shut engine off let cool down and then fil to cool mark . Done

What I do is flush the system; 'cause if your rad has corrosion, so does the rest of the cooling system. Purchase a PRESTONE flush kit at a auto store along with a container of flush and at least a gallon of antifreeze. There are detailed directions on the package. Briefly, you will be installing a flush tee in the return hose to the heater core, adding a can of flush to the rad,running the car at idle and then attaching your garden hose to do the work. Very effective.

It should be just below the bottom radiator hose.

on my 98 Bravada there is a flap under the car where the oil filter is. I took mine off and on the passenger side of the radiator, theres a green radiator plug. On mine you turn the plug and pull it out a little.

my 2001 is at the middle bottom of radiator cover by rubber that are holding by 4 or 5 plastic pins

First, decide if you need a flush and clean or just to replace the anti-freeze with new fluid. You could decide this by looking into the radiator. If you see excessive build up on the internal parts of the radiator you will want to flush with a commercial radiator cleaning solution that will break down the gunk in the radiator allowing for better flow and cooling of the engine.

If you need to flush it, follow the directions on the label. Once that is completed you want to drain the system. Do this by placing a catch pan beneath the radiator under the petcock valve. On your vehicle it is located on the bottom, drivers side part of the radiator. It will be facing the engine. Remove your radiator cap to allow the system to breath while draining. Once the flow stops from the petcock valve you can tighten it back up and refill the radiator with a proper blend of anti-freeze and water (follow instruction on anti-freeze bottle)

Some mechanics will fill and flush an engine again before final fill with antifreeze, especially if significant build up is present in the radiator. Also, if it easily accessible, the lower radiator hose can be removed to help speed up the draining of the engine. Some people believe loosening the upper hose helps better drain the block but removing the radiator cap will suffice and leaves less to work on in order to get back up and running.
