The only way you can do this that I am aware of, is to by an after market pully for the vehicle, you have to unplug and remove the A?C compressor, and bolt the new pully/bracket to the engine blok in place of the compressor.

NO - is this a GRAND Cherokee or XJ? What engine does it have? smoth side of belt, to smooth pullies, groved side to groved pullies. Only the right belt will fit. Hope you gave the parts store more info than us or chances are, you have the wrong belt.

Take your Serpentine belt back off. Try to start the car now. If it starts, shut it off quickly. Spin all the pulleys under the hood, power steering, alternator, AC, idler, tensioner. See if they all spin. If one doesnt, it probly needs to be replaced.

Bacically those belts went over the top of the drum to a spring loaded tensioner pully on the front bottom right side then up to the motor pully and back up the right side. For a 1999 Dodge Caravan 3.3 L I have to use a 15mm open/closed end wrench on the tensioner pulley. Use the closed end of the 15mm and pull toward you and use the end of a crescent wrench to use for additional torque. You can slip the belt over the fixed pulley (not the tensioner pulley). Give yourself more room by not using the hood bar and use instead a broomstick on the right side to prop the hood open. I recommend a goodyear gator belt too. No, they usually can stretch slightly if anything but the tensioner should take up the slack if they do. If you took it off and when you go to put it back on it's too short you have routed it incorrectly.

the tention pulley bolt is not stuck. It is supposed to be that way take a 1/2 " or 3/4 rachet or breaker bar and put it in the square hole and use the breaker bar to get leverage to move the tention bar so that tention is off the belt to rmove belt and do the same to install belt

Belt Tensioner All engines use an automatic drive belt tensioner. On the 7.5L engine, there are two belts; one uses the automatic tensioner, while the alternator belt requires periodic tensioning. On all belts using an automatic tensioner, no adjustment is necessary because the tensioner adjusts for belt wear. To adjust the tension on the 7,5L engine alternator belt, loosen the adjusting bolts and rotate the alternator until the proper tension is on the drive belt and tighten the adjusting bolts. It is recommended that the belt tension indicator mark be inspected with the engine OFF at 60,000 mile (96,000 km) intervals. If the wear indicator mark is out of specification, the drive belt is worn or an incorrect drive belt has been installed. The 4.6L, 5.4L, 6.8L, all have one belt and one belt tensioner. Look at the diagram on top of the radiator or somewhere in the engine compartment. 1/2" ratchet / or 1/2" beaker bar will do the trick.

use a15mm box wrench or the speical tool and pull up on the automatic tentcher pully NOTEthe way the belt runs

disconnect negative side of battery, remove air filter and entire assembly, it pulls up off pegs. Remove the 7 bolts that hold upper half of fan shroud assembly, they are 10mm i think. Move top radiator hose up and toward you to get it off the formed holder for it, pull fan shroud up and off vehicle. Take an 3/8" extension without a socket on it and find square hole it fits right into below idler/tensioner where belt will be at your extreme left facing motor. Add the ratchet and a pipe over it for leverage and pull and belt will come off. There's 2 bolts on front bottom and one bolt on backside you'll have to go inside and remove doghouise to get to. Couple of electrical connections back there. Couple hours if you fool around with it.

It is the only pulley with a square hole in the middle. Pull/rotate wratchet handle to take tension off of belt and remove old belt. 3. Route new belt around pulleys per your sketch. 4. To complete you must once again take the tension off of the tensioner pulley with the wratchet and slide the new one on. This replacement is very easy if you have a 3/8 inch ratchet with and extension bar. Takes about 10 minutes.

Look at the tensioner and insert the tool into it and apply opposing pressure to release the belt.Now, simply install the new belt making sure it fits into the grooves on all the pulleys. Start the car to check it and you are done and you saved yourelf some money!

That depends on your level of competence. It's not difficult, in fact it's one of he most simple jobs. You do, however, need to really look closley at the routing of the serpentine belt and make sure you make a drawing. That's the most common problem. To replace the serp belt, just back off the tensioner, pull the old belt off then put the new one back in it's place.

The belt tensioner probably needs to be replaced - about $110 @ PepBoys. Check the alignment of all pulleys. If something isn't aligned properly the belt will keep breaking.
