Needs a tune up? Bad timing?
I'd guess that it's probably low fuel pressure/volume, caused by either a marginal fuel pump or more likely a partially blocked fuel filter.
Why would a 2000 Chrysler Sebring be cutting out while driving?
When a car die's when driving it could be one of 3 things and its related system. #1 is the engine getting air? is the ir filter clogged. #2 is it getting fuel, and is all related parts working i.e. fuel pump working? Fuel injectors working? Is the electronics controling it working properly? #3 is the ignition system working and this usually is the one to blame because of the complicated electronics involoved with it. But you can surely test for the simple things of all 3, after that its to the machanic and trying to find the cause. It may be even a frayed wire on your battery connection. The best thing is maybe look at the simple things first that you can inpect visually & test yourself.
What causes a 93 ford probe to stall when you let off the gas also no air flow through the intake?
When my 1997 Ford Probe started to do that we toke a look at it and found a few leaks in the Air Intake
Why would a 1983 Mercury Zephyr idle normally in park but sputter when you put it in gear?
Sounds like the timing could be a little out of whack, when in park there is no load and the base idle is good, but when under load there is a vacuum advance issue and the timing is just out enough to cause the sputtering. Check the cap and rotor for any signs of cross firing or arcing inside the cap, hooped rotors will also show this arcing as witness marks on the rotor.
Need a diagram on how to put in an alternator belt on a 1994 Chevy Corsica?
Look at 2carpros.com - free and select make model, year, engine. Car Repairs, Alternator Belt. Or Autozone.com under repair - select alternator belt, year make and model.
Check for fuel pump pressure at the back of the throttle body at the schrader valve. This is the #1 problem with these vehicles.
I have a 2000 sonata and I had the same problem. You may want to check the IAC and or clean the throttle body.
Why does your Monte Carlo stalls out while im driving?
It's either air or fuel, that's what I was told when mine sputtered and stalled. Look at those 2 things hope that helps.
1992 dodge stealth starts and stalls after few seconds of running?
sounds like a fuel problem to me,check your fuel filter,or even you air intake tube make sure it is bolted nice and tight to you throttle body.IT could be a lot of other thing as well like you MAS sensor,ect... but always start with the easiest stuff first when troubleshooting a problem....GENO
Why would a 1996 Lincoln Town Car stall at highway speeds of 70 mph?
mine had a elec. short @ high speeds or shrp turns it would stall out. wait 5 min then it starrt again or open the hood and wiggle around the fuses in the fuse box facing the car towards the windshield on the right side
Depends on what you mean by frose up. if it doesn't turn over then it could be an oil pump or your out of oil. In which case, to try and save the block you might want to pour automatic transmission fluid into the cylenders to try and uncease them and then try to get it to turn over. Before you do this check to make sure there is oil in the oilpan. If so then you might want to change the oil pump.
there is an electric idle air control motor on the throttle body of this car. if the wiring seems sound, replace the motor. you wont be sorry (except the part is over $200.00 i think) You could also have a failing fuel pump (or clogged filter to the fuel pump). If it's the filter, it eludes detection by a fuel pump test and needs a visual inspection. If the problem gets worse the longer you drive the car, the fuel pump may be getting overheated from the strain, but quickly recovers after a minute when you stall out at a light. The whole problem begins as a clogged filter, but eventually causes enough overheating to damage the fuel pump. The final diagnosis becomes a fuel filter for $200 up plus labor.
Another suggestion: I replaced the engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor. It is very simple to replace. Cost about 150 at local chain auto parts store. I tried this while also putting in some fuel injector cleaning fluid in the gas tank. Its been 2 years and my Camary V6 98' has stopped stalling. I got suggestion from the internet and I'm returning the favor. Thanks!
What could be wrong when your car died going down the road?
Check the alternator. That's what it was when it happened to me! If you still have electrical power and the motor dies then it is likely a broken rotor cap which is inside of the the distibuter. The rotor cap spins and ingnites the spark plugs. Many are made of plastic and can crack or break over time.
If there is a clicking noise get it to a mechanic you engine is blown and may be saved. Most likely you'll need a new one because a lifter is broken and it would be cheaper.
The engine is running rough, either just at idle or also during acceleration. Look at the FAQ's for rough idle and engine shaking problems for your specific symptoms. The gas cap hisses because the air is coming out (it was trapped under pressure). That is nrmal when your tank is less than half full (which would also be the time you take the cap off to put gas in. Hope this helps!
Why would a 1989 Vanagon run OK on startup the stall when it reaches a certain engine temperature?
It could be that you have a fault in the wiring to the ECU. In particular when the engine bay gets warm the resistance in the wiring can increase (I think that is right) This could effect the values of the inputs to the ECU, which in turn could try to compensate for the false readings being sent to it.
Cheers
Why does your car keep turning off?
^ That's absolutely false. Octane is a measurement of a fuel's resistance to detonation. Drag cars and high compression vehicles need high octane fuel to stop the fuel from rapidly combusting too early on the compression stroke. Higher octane fuel has absolutely nothing to do with "explosive energy."
While water in the fuel is a possibility, you'll need to be more specific, ie conditions, type of vehicle. The problem could be fuel related or electric related as well.
What causes a Geo Metro to die when you stop at a light unless you hold the brake and gas together?
Your idle may need to be set up a little I had the same problem with my 1992 Geo Metro 3 cylinder 1 Liter, when i stopped at a stop light the car would die. Check your compression on all cylinders, most likely the problem is with some burned exhaust valves. I overhauled my motor, new piston rings and replaced all exhaust valves, now it idles just fine. Answer--- You may have a flithy air filter which will starve the car. Or it could be dirty injectors and a fuel filter that needs changing. A whole lot cheaper to try these before you do a rebuild.
Why would a 2000 Dodge Stratus 2.4 L be sputtering and knocking and driving but hard at higher mph?
Well your question is not clear because of the gramatical errors, but I believe you are asking about knocking and sputtering at slow speeds but consistent and good at higher speeds....well here is my answer to you. The higher speed consistency compared to the lower sputter is probably one of two things or a combination of both or even a third. One, you have a rough idle which can be caused by: bad fuel injectors, bad ECU, or wrong or bad spark plugs. I would recommend that you disconnect your battery for 30 seconds to wipe the ECU and then try to start and drive the car again. If this does not work, then you will need to have a repair shop look at your fuel delivery (including fuel filter, injectors, and even your spark plgs). Your bad combustion can be any of the above and that would explain the sputtering at slow speeds. Now the second problem could be that your transmission is slipping gears and causing the vehicle to sputter and try to get in the correct gear until you get to a higher speed and a gear that is not malfunctioning. The third possible problem is that you Cam Gears are not properly functioning. If you have the 2.4 you have a dual overhead and the 2.7 or 3.0 is SOHC (if i am not mistaken). A DOHC means that you have one Cam opening and shutting for the intake of air while the other opens and shuts for the exhaust. One Cam can be malfunctioning and that is effecting the other which would cause rough idle and sputtering as well. That is all I have for you and any questions can be directed to tony_velociti@yahoo.com Thanks.
AnswerI had a same problem, mine was electrical. You should get a computer test done if your check engine light is on BEFORE YOU DISCONNECT YOUR BATTERY. Otherwise the computer wont test until so many miles driven. my test was Cylinder #2 misfire so i put on new wires and plugs, that did not fix it. I did a test with the brand new spark wires. I pulled the wire on the #2 cylinder (the other end of the spark wire was still on the COIL) and stuck a long peice of copper speaker wire in it. Then I took the other end of speaker wire to the frame and there was hardly no spark at all. The same test on another cylinder however produced plenty of spark. This proved to me that the problem was in the spark and it was not the wire or the plugs because i just changed them ($30.00) It had to be the COIL PACK, so I got one from autozone ($75.00) put it on and fixed the car. CAUTION: The test is dangerous you should us some kind of rubber insulator when handling the live wire and you also want someone else to turn the car over and off.[add answer]
Why would your car stall in reverse when you press on the gas a little?
Idle speed incorrect , fuel filter clogged , fault in fuel system , faulty emissions system components , faulty or incorrectly gapped spark plugs , vacuum leak at the thottle body , intake manifold or vacuum hoses
Why would a 2000 Dodge Neon shut off while driving and not start back up?
If you severely overheated the engine, the cylinder heads or intake manifold may either have warped or blown their gaskets. This creates among other things a vacuum leak which will cause the idle speed motor/solenoid to go crazy.
