did you get the computer to take the error off im talking about those computer that tell u whats the problem with your car.
94 grand am turns over but wont start and backfires?
It takes two people to solve this question quickly. 1- have someone check for voltage at the starter main feed AS you turn the key, if there is voltage, replace the starter.. 2- If no voltage is present, replace the IGNITION switch, NOT, the key tumbler!!! If this vehicle is a standard shift, which I doubt, you could have a faulty clutch switch. daner@copper.net
Replace the starter contacts inside the starter.
I just did this on my 1998 T100 last night. It took me about 1 hour to pull the starter and about 15 minutes to open it up and change the contacts inside. A kit with the starter contacts is available from any number of sources on the Internet for under $10.
The starter is located on the passenger side of the engine, just forward of the transmission. The starter attaches with two bolts, screwing in from the back toward the front. For easier access, remove the bracket attaching the exhaust pipe to the engine. Use a 14mm wrench or socket to loosen the correct bolts. You will also have to remove the terminal wire from the starter relay with a 14mm socket/wrench. The other wire connection is a clip; just push and release.
It may be easier to remove the top bolt by accessing it from above. You can't really see it from above, due to the position of the exhaust manifold, but if you can feel for it and get your wrench on the right bolt head, you'll have more room from the top to move your wrench.
When you open the starter (gold-colored access plate that is removed with three little bolts), you'll see how the starter contacts are obviously worn. Remove the old terminals and contacts and replace them with the new parts from your kit, taking great care to replace all bushings and O-rings on the terminal bolts in the correct sequence. It's a very easy job.
It appears from the design that this is an unfortunate example of poor engineering. Those contacts are inevitably going to wear and require replacement.
Best wishes!
could be maybe a bad fuel filter or a bad fuel pump. maybe!
i can tell you exactly what the problem is without a doubt. i just bought this car 2001 olds intrigue 3.5 shortly after i noticed it acted like it didnt want to start my father in law is a mechanic and hooked his machine to my car got the code and realised it was the crank sensor. you need to replace this i got one at auto zone for $61.99. the problem is the sensor isn't reconizing when to crank
Engines need fuel, compression and spark to run. You believe you have fuel so check for spark next. A faulty crank sensor could be one reason you have no spark. If you have spark, have a compression test done. The timing chain/belt may have broken if you have no compression.
Check to see if the engine is getting spark. If not there are a few places to check. Check both coil packs with a spark plug tester set to the proper gap ( can be had at a auto parts store). Check to make sure you have fuel pressure. There is an inerta switch in the trunk. its behind that door in the trunk or on the passanger side. make sure this hasn't been tripped. sometimes a loud subwoofer system will trip it
could be a bad ignition module. or check all your fuel injectors for shorts.
If you do have spark a stuck open EGR valve will totally kill and engine and it will not start. Big problem with fords and Gms alike
Could a fuel regulator be the problem for a 1992 Chevrolet S-10 blazer for hard starts?
It's a possibility. There should be a fuel pressure test port right behind the throttle body. Use a pressure gauge to find out what kind of pressure you're holding. You'll need to refer to a manual to find out what's normal for your engine.
My Car has problems starting when hot?
the problem is that your starter is heating up , possibly because the exahaust manifold is located very close to the starter. let the car cool down, spray water on the starter, (cool water), or to prevent the problem, insulate the starter with a heat wrap or heat shield to prevent the starter from overheating and not working.also dude u need to check coolant level..it mite have reached very low due to wiz problm is occurring in ur car
This could be an indication of a failing crank sensor. GM has issued a recall for this and you shoudl be able to find out more information from any cadillac or GM dealer.
timing timing if you are getting spark and fule check the timing you have a chain or a belt if you don't knwo then take it to a shop
Why does your 1986 Ford RV E350 460 4 BB die 30 seconds after starting?
You are getting fuel by pumping it, but the fuel pump is not running. Go to the underside and pull off the fuel line some where, turn the key and see if fuel comes out. There are several places you can check and probably a filter or two. Check multiple places and before and after any filters. If the fuel pump is like mine, in the rear tank, it is electric. If no fuel, or very little comes out, it is either the pump or the relay unit to the pump. That is assuming there are no messed up fuel lines. It is a good idea to replace in-line and carb fuel filter anyway. If it is a fuel pump, you will likely have to drop the tank, or cut an access hole in the floor of your RV to pull the pump out. The parts are not expensive. After all my work today where I have repalced everything, I think that it is the fuel pump relay. I bought one, but I need to try and find where it is located. All of the filters, pump, relay should total less than $100. The pump is the most expensive, so buy it last. I will check in later if I find where the fuel pump relay is located. Craig
on a 1992 Camry the map sensor is attached to the center of the firewall by a bracket and has a rubber vacuum hose connected to it.
It appears that the engine floods when you apply the throttle, thus why it bogs down, and the leakage from the bottom of the carburetor. Inspect the air filter to ensure it is not clogged or dirty. If the problem is not there, inspect the spark plug and clean or replace it if necessary. If the problem persists, then the carburetor settings are probably too rich. If that is the case, rotate the needle valve clockwise 1/8 turn to close slightly.
Start it (using the charger), then drive it straight to an auto parts retailer that tests charging systems. Checker, Kragen, Auto Zone are all willing to test your charging system and battery for you.
1999 Chrysler Cirrus not firing what could be causing this It just had a new timing belt put on?
has the engine run since new timing belt put on? if not whoever did the work, didnt get the timing right.
Does the 1992 Nissan Sentra have a starter or an alternator?
This vehicle (like most cars) has both a starter and an alternator. The alternator is driven by a serpentine belt, and the starter is located on the lower part of the engine at the transmission, where the teeth engage with the flywheel/flex plate. An alternator for the 1992 Sentra usually costs around $120-150, and a starter in the range of $90-120.
your fuel pump is a good place to look if its worn it will cause this type of problem
How do you over ride anti theft system in 1996 olds mobile?
It depends on what type of anti theft device you are talking about. Generally the 1996 Olds have a VATS (vehicle anti theft system) key, which can be identified by the visible resistor pellet on the blade of the key just under the bow (head) of the key. If you have a VATS key it is possible to disable the VATS value in the vehicle's on-board computer, however this information is classified and, being a security professional, I will not divulge such information on the internet. I suggest if you want your VATS system disabled on your vehicle you contact your local locksmith. Most locksmiths who do automotive locksmithing will know how to disable your VATS system.
Make sure your cat converter isn't plug which is part of the exhaust system. If it's plugged the engine builds up pressure and won't run.
In reference to the above answer, No. This would only occur if you were driving for a distance, and a long one at that.
You are correct in thinking it is the fuel pump relay, which is poorly designed, overheats on the soldered contacts, and fails. The relay is located in the fuse box, just under the dash on the left side. It will be fuse relay # 19.
Why won't your S10 start with an OK battery and plenty of gas in the tank?
You'll need to do a little work to figure out that one. Maybe start with a computer diagnostic code reader, then go to the basics of fuel, spark and compression. If you have all 3, it will start. Try a little starting fluid to see if it will run briefly. If it does, you have a fuel problem.
Check for trouble codes with a scan tool. I worked on a Saturn that had corrosion on the coolant temperature sensor connector which caused the computer to see too low of temperature and it added excessive fuel to the mix. The car barely ran, hads lots of smoke, the gauge on the dash was erratic and a coolant temperature sensor code was stored in the PCM.
How long should it take for oil pressure to build up on a cold v-8 engine?
Oil pressure should be almost immediate. You should see high oil pressure as soon as the engine is started within no more than 1 or 2 seconds. If it takes longer then the anti-drainback valve in the filter may be sticking open. Change to a quality filter such as Purolator, Wix, Bosch, Motorcraft, AC/Delco. Avoid Fram or store brands.
What happens if a car is already started and you turn the ignition to start it again?
you burn out your starter or your fly wheedl
