EGR Systems

When the temperature in the combustion chamber becomes extremely hot, nitrous oxides are formed, which then turn into smog. In order to reduce such occurrence, the exhaust gas recirculation system minimizes the temperature in the combustion chamber.

What does a pcv valve look like on ford ranger edge 2001?

This is what I've found. I've also found a TON of other ones at various autoparts stores online. Mine is a VIN "E" but that didn't differentiate it from any of the other search results. It's located ALL the way at the back of the valve cover on the drivers side. AND it's a $20 part....ugh Whereas the "normal" looking ones run about $3 at Advance Auto....

http://www.autopartswarehouse.comLook at the bottom of the list and you'll see it, it's got a piece of aluminum tubing going around it.....odd....very odd.

Where is egr valve on 1998 4.3L VORTEC?

The EGR valve on the 4.3l Vortec motors is located directly in front of the thermostat housing , near the front of the motor. Both items are located near the front of the intake manifold. Follow the coolant feed line back the to water neck/thermostat housing, the EGR valve will be the 3" canister-style object in front of that.

How does engine immobilizer works?

It sends a signal though one of you motors kill/stop switches and shuts the motor off.

Where is the egr valve on a 1998 Tracker?

On the rear of the engine block next to the firewall about 1/2 way down. You can see the 10mm bolts from above, (at least the top one), and access them with your left hand using either a 1/4" drive, or box end wrench.

The lower bolt is 1 1/2" directly below the top one. Remember to buy the gasket in advance.

After unbolting the EGR valve, if you are re-using it, make sure all of the old gasket material is off of the mating surface. I used emery cloth held onto a piece of wood, and just rubbed the valve across it until the gasket material was gone.

I like the metal gasket for a $couple more online.

Where is the EGR valve located on a 2000 Ford Rangerxlt with a 3 liter engine and is it by the throttle cable?

the egr on a 2000 ford ranger is to the right of the air breather - follow to the end and /you will see two 10 m/m nuts that holds it on and then there is a larger bolt on the back side / take off the larger nut off first then the 10 mm bolts / note you may need to spray some pv blaster on all the bolts before taking off any/ take off the larger bolt off first and then the smaller ones also / make sure you clean out port after taking egr off / use round brass brush to clean out port.this will allow your computer to reset off on engin check light/ if it don/t reset go to your local auto zone and they can turn out light.

Location depends on the engine type, IE 2.3, 3.0 or 4.0 liter. The above location is for the 4 liter and possible 3 liter. The 2.3 liter 4 cylinder engine location is on the back left side (driver's side).

Is there an egr valve in 1992 Pontiac Bonneville and where is it located could a bad valve keep you car from starting and running properly?

AnswerThe 3800 (RPO: L27) was not equipped with an EGR Valve for the model year 1992 only. The 3800 (RPO:L67) does have an EGR valve.
The valve should be located on the driver's side on top of the manifold.
A bad EGR valve can keep your car from starting and running properly.

Where is the EGR valve on a 95 Pontiac Grand Am?

First of all, I would have to know what engine you have because they are all in differat places. If you have a 3100 V6 its under the intake. It will not cause overheating of any kind. Let me know if I can help you in any other way. Ray

Why does your check enging light keep coming on. It always reads EGR valve insufficent flow. The mechanics says there is nothing wrong at all.?

There's a small sensor that sits in mid air on 2 hoses that come off one of the lines to the EGR valve. It has a 2 pole electrical connector going to it and sits about 6" above the driver valve cover and 8" behind the power steering fluid reservoir. It's Motorcraft part # should be 4U7E-9J460-AA. This is a common problem on the 4.6's especially. What's the year and engine size of your truck?

AnswerGo to another mechanic. If the light is on, then there is something wrong with the emissions system. Sounds like the EGR valve need cleaning or replacing. AnswerMiata engines typically run very rich and it is not uncommon for carbon deposits to build up enough to clog smaller ports on the emissions system. The common culprits are :

1. Crudding on the EGR Valve itself, which will cause the mechanism to freeze. You can review cleaning this at the following site:

http://sites.google.com/site/redcapsmiata/tutorials/egr-valve

2. The port after the EGR valve, which runs into the front of the intake manifold:

Both cleanings can be done by people with a basic, mechanical aptitude.

How do you replace or clean an EGR valve on a 1998 Honda Prelude 2 2L?

Most EGR valves must be replaced with factory dealer parts in order to pass state emissions. Aftermarket valves will not pass the test. Keep this in mind when you finally replace it. Sorry I cannot give you details on how to do it.

The typical EGR valve can be cleaned and possibly repaired in some cases. Carbon build up can be scraped and blown out with compressed air.A pinhole in the rubber diaphragm (a common problem)can be fixed using high temperature silicone sealant. Locate the hole with soapy water while blowing into vacuum hose. Clean area with alcohol and let dry. Apply silicone sealant with a toothpick to the hole while sucking on the vacuum hose to draw the sealant into the hole. Let dry overnight. Such a repair can last many years and pass SMOG testing easily, saving the owner hundreds of dollars for parts and labor.

What can cause black smoke to come from the exhaust?

Black smoke coming out the tailpipe usually indicates excessive fuel is being burned weather it be a gas or diesel engine. Oil will usually be blue. The first place for a DIY to look I suggest would be the air intake system especially the air filter. If you have an older vehicle that has a carburetor be sure the choke is fully opened when engine is at operating temperature and look down the venturis to see if fuel is pouring in at an idle. It should not show fuel delivery thru the hi-speed circuit at an idle. If you have a fuel injected vehicle check the fuel pressure if you know how and have the computerized control system diagnostics performed; you'll need a scan tool. If the engine has a mis-firing cylinder that also will cause excessive black smoke and have that 02 sensor showing rich. If the 02 sensors show a RICH condition I suggest you see first what is causing that rich condition before you go ahead and spend your hard earned coins on a new 02 sensor(s)! My experience has shone that if an 02 sensor shows a rich condition and you have black smoke pouring out the tailpipe the 02 sensor is doing its' job and replacing it won't do the fix.

Where is the egr solenoid located on a 99 Ford Ranger 3.0L V6?

How do you determine if the EGR valve is bad?

How to Diagnose a Bad EGR Cooler: This method is easy to do and is a good "test" if you have any of the three symptoms above. To do this test, turn off your rig. When its all cooled down, remove the EGR valve (between your alternator and oil filter - it looks like a 7-ounce beer can with wires going to it) and look inside with a flash light. If it looks wet, gooey or steam cleaned, then you probably have EGR cooler problems.

You drive 50 miles on the highway you come to a stop and the vehicle stalls and you have difficulty starting again until it cools off?

My guess would be that the catalytic converter is plugged, or maybe some other exhaust blockage. The exhaust cannot go through the system and the car stalls. As it "cools off" the pressure is actually equalizing, or coming back to atmospheric and the exhaust can flow freely again, for a while. I would check this scenario out, could be something to it.
