1989 ford f-150 6 cyd starter solenoid stays engaged on start what's the problem?

The Amperage draw is so high it locks the starter solenoid. This can be because of a bad starter bushing, low voltage in the battery, timing, etc. It is a major engineering defect in the design. All Fords prior to 1992 have this flaw. It can result in a fire, dead battery, etc.

The good news is Ford redesigned their starters in 1992. The new starters

will fit the old engines and Ford sells a retrofit kit to rewire the Solenoid for the new starter. The way it corrects the problem is the old solenoid becomes a starter relay, with the output wire now going to a solenoid mounted on the new starter. (This gives you less of a voltage drop at the new solenoid vs the old solenoid, that solves the problem in most cases)

You need to buy the kit from Ford (Under $20.00) but you can buy the starter anywhere. Just give them your vehicle information as if you owned a 1993 Ford when buying the starter. You can also get a rebuilt starter from Ford. You could make your own kit, but the Ford Kit is everything you need and comes with instructions (priceless).

92 integra LS with 189000 miles when do you need to install new gaskets on head?

There is really no reason to. Unless a car overheats enough to warp the head, there is no good reason the head gasket should fail.

If there is overheating and increased coolant replacement on 1997 Grand Prix how can you tell if it is the head gasket or the head itself?

The Quad 4 has alot of head gasket problems. Have the system pressure tested, and or have a block test done to check for exhaust gasses in the cooling system..If the vehicle has overheated recently more likely than not it has a warped head..

Why would the service light fuel gauge and temp gauge of a 2001 L-series Saturn go on and off while driving?

I have experienced this problem before. There is a good chance there is a Body or powertrain code stored in the computer to indicate a problem in the cluster, body control module, wiring, or combination of those. The only way to know is to get that code read.

after experiencing the same problem with the fuel gage, temp gage and service light, we kept using the Saturn only to have the car not go out of park, and the door lock malfunction.Took it to Saturn dealer and diagnosed it as having the body control module replaced. to the tune of over $400.you cannot do this yourself as the module needs to be programed after installation with a special machine.

How much would it be to fix a cb joint?

If you mean a CV joint (constant velocity joint on front-wheel drive car drive train), then go ask a car repair shop. It depends on the make and model and whether the joint is frozen, ie hard to undo, plus the cost of the new part and rubber boots, etc. At least $300, probably more like $600. If you mean something else, then you should make it plain when you ask the question and also make the context clear, ie cars, radios, etc. Otherwise not many people are going to know what you mean and probably fewer would bother answering your (lazy) question. If in fact you are asking about a CB radio clubhouse that you wanted to break up because they were causing interference, well, that's a totally different question.........

What would cause the overdrive light to flash on a 1999 ford windstar when you are doing about 55 miles per hour?

The light will flash if the vehicle senses that you should be in overdrive (based on speed) but aren't. There should be a button on the end of your gearshift lever to turn overdrive back on. The only time you should turn that off is, for example, if you are pulling a trailer in the mountains.

Turn OD back on and the light will stop flashing. If it doesn't stop then there is a problem with the transmission going into overdrive.

How to make Honda Odyssey sliding doors lock open?

My wife just removed the clock fuse and the sliding door fuses....and it fixed the problem (28 Jan. 2010) on her 2003 Odyssey Van.

The original problem: sliding door stuck open - could not manually move it at all (even in manual mode). The (passenger side) sliding door was having issues of not fully latching (had to push it to latch it in place) for 3-4 months before being stuck.

______________________________________________________________________

Here is an answer to a similar question I found:

I have a 2001 Honda Odyssey and have taken the van to the dealer to get the power door reset.... $50. There is apparently a breaker of some sort (not the electrical fuse) that causes the door to stop functioning if it has a problem opening or something causes it to stick when you try to open it. AVOID THE $50 CHARGE and the wasted time of having this "repaired".

To reset, I tried both of these suggestions below at the same time. I found these elsewhere online... not sure which worked, but the door is working again without a trip to the mechanic.

Posts elsewhere indicated that this worked on both 2000 and 2001 Honda Odyssey vans.

Suggestion #1

1.) Disable the power door switch on the left dashboard.

2.) Remove the power door fuses located under the front passenger leg area.

3.) Manually open and close both sliding doors.

4.) Restore the power door fuses located under the front passenger leg area.

5.) Enable the power door switch on the left dashboard.

6.) Try opening the sliding doors.

Suggestion #2

Remove fuse #13 (clock) for 30 seconds or more from the passenger side fusebox. This will reset the door and the clock.

Does having a bad thermostat cause the temp gage to go from cold to hot repeatedly?

A good thermostat will make the temp guage fluctuate 80-100 degrees as it opens and closes, it is holding coolant inside the engine until it reaches the preset temperature ( around 185 depending on the manufacturer specs. ), then opens to let the hot coolant out to the radiator to be cooled and cool fluid in to keep the motor warm but not hot. If yours is fluctuating to the extremes as you wrote " from cold to hot" the temperature sending unit or gauge itself is to blame. If it is moving back and forth in the middle somewhere then its pretty normal. S bad thermostat would either stay shut and overheat the engine, or at least make it run hot, or stay open and run hot in the summer and stay cold in the winter. The coolant must be allowed time to cool in the radiator or it will eventually reach the same temp and just continue to rise, or never warm up enough to operate the engine properly.

How do you adjust passenger sliding door ford windstar 2002?

With the door open loosen the three bolts that hold the rear of the door onto the arm. Find out if it is striking high or low and gently move the door in the right direction a little bit at a time. Also check the bottom track for any obstructions.

What is a blown seal?

On rear wheel drive engines, the oil pan at the bottom of the engine does not completely connect to the block. It has to make room for the crankshaft at the front and the drive shaft/crankshaft at the rear. this is a half circle design in the oil pan to match the same design at the bottom of the block. In order to keep your oil in the system, there is a gasket that is either heavy cork or rubber that conforms to the shapes of the pan and block while at the same time it is wrapped around the crankshaft. When either the front or rear "main seal" "blows", it is simply worn too thin to prevent the oil from leaking out. The same theory applie to front wheel drive engines.

What size wipers does a Scion xa use?

The 2004-2006 Scion xA takes a 24" drivers side, 16" passenger side and a fairly specialized 12" rear wiper that is difficult to find in the stores. See sources and related links below for more information. Since there are currently over 22 different wiper arm attachments, do not buy wipers just by length only - be sure to lookup exact wiper blade part numbers by vehicle make, model and year for the brand wiper you decide to purchase. This ensures correct length AND correct attachment.
