Heating AC and Engine Cooling

Heating, air conditioning (AC) and engine cooling require a radiator to transfer heat. Heating a cabin requires heat to be transferred from an engine block. Engine cooling blows the heat out of the engine. AC uses refrigerants to cool air.

When it is below freezing why would a 1996 Neon engine indicator go up to overheating after about 20 minutes on the road and blow cold air?

check the thermostat to see if it is opening properly (you can remove it and place it in a pan of water on the stove and heatthe water until it opens oh yeah don't forget to use a thermometer to find out what temp. it was) you should also check your antifreeze mixture for accurracy(try that first) if none of these work try flushing your heater core to see if it is stopped up

This could be an indication that you do not have enough antifreeze. The car heater will not work when there is no liquid in it. also the car will overheat.

Why does my ford focus cooling fan keep coming on and going off again. The temperature gets up to mid way and then the fan cuts in for a few seconds and it drops straight to cold on the needle?

there may be a problem with the gauge, sensor or thermostat try replacing the thermostat first

I think you mean the AQUASTAT, that controls the fan. The THERMOSTAT is in the upper water hose inlet and controls only the temperature of the water. The aquastat operates the fan, only.

Where is the thermostat and EGR valve on a 1991 Silverado?

The thermstat is in the housing at the motor end of the upper rad hose. Two bolts hold it on. The EGR is on top of the intake manifold near the throttle body. It has a vacuum hose and two bolts. If I remember correctly the bolt are inverted torks. Which require a special tool to remove. Use a pair of locking plyers to remove, then replace bolts with standard ones.

How do I change a thermostat on a 03Chevy impala?

To change a thermostat on a 2003 Chevy Impala remove the connectors to the battery, wait for the coolant system to be drained and take out the radiator hose. Remove the thermostat and clean it's component, position the thermostat, put the new gasket on top of the thermostat and put engine oil on the bolts. Attach the radio hose and fill the system with coolant. Put the negative part of the battery cable to the terminal and let the car run for a few minutes before driving.

Is heater fan the same as cooling fan?

No. The heater 'fan', more commonly known as the blower motor, is the one inside the vehicle cabin that pushes warm or cold air for the cabin heat or air conditioning. The cooling fan is the engine cooling fan under the hood.

How do you know when you need more Freon in your car?

the air will be hot .

actually never, it is not an easy task, you are always taking some risk, if the system is over 7 years old it is best to rework the system. flush all old oil out , change bearing in clutch seal in front of compressor , all system seals, then refill with fresh oil and freon. as a quick remedy add freon with oil and dye and sealer mix, then pray. if you continue on though and too much oil accumulates then compressor will blow, if too little oil it will sieze and destroy system leaving a 1,200 bill to restore

Should your cooling fans be running all the time?

By fans, I assume it has more than one. One of these fans will run continuously when the A/C is on. The other fan should only run when needed to cool the engine down. In stop and go city driving in the summer with the A/C on, both fans may very well run continuously. At highway speeds, only the A/C fan should normally run. Sounds like you need to have your cooling system serviced. A complete drain and flush of the cooling system and a replacement of the thermostat may help. Also make sure the radiator external fins are clean and not clogged with bugs and debris.
