How do you route a serpentine belt on a vehicle to bypass the air conditioner compressor?
Go to an auto parts store and ask for a belt for your vehicle, only without A/C. You cannot use the belt that normally fits this vehicle.
Sometimes this works but many times it does not work. For example, I had to bypass the a/c compressor on a 96 Ford Taurus with a 3.0 liter engine. For starters, you can't go to your parts store and ask for a belt for a Taurus that doesnt have a/c because there are not any made without a/c to begin with. There are "aftermarket" belt tensioners made for many vehicles that will reroute the belt past the a/c. You simply replace the original belt tensioner with the aftermarket tensioner that is redesigned to get the belt off of the a/c pully. In the case of my 96 Taurus, I was able to bypass my a/c compressor with a $35 tensioner and no "rigging" was involved. These parts are available online and in many cases a good autoparts store can order it for you.
MoreSometimes this won't work due to differences in pulley designs on non-A/C models.I have a 99 Taurus 3 litre, the air conditioner seized and snapped the belt four days ago. I measured the length required to bypass the air pulley and it was 79 inches. I found a belt off a 97 jeep 4litre is a perfect fit,I left the air conditioner on the vehicle, the belt looked like it might be touching the air pulley but the work to take the air cond.,pump off made me just start up the engine and it works perfectly looks close but works great.

2004 6.0 diesel serpetine belt configuration?
The serpentine belt configuration for a 2004 6.0 diesel engine typically runs around all the engine accessories and over the idler pulley. A single belt is used to power the alternator, power steering pump, water pump, and AC compressor.
This is how tight the bolt is done up, the manufacturer will specify this is newton meter or foot pound. You will then need a Tourque wrench to measure the force as you tighten the bolt.
Why does alternator belt come off?
Belt worn out, too loose, or the pulleys are out of alignment or bent. Another reason is you have bought the wrong kind or size belt for the application. The belt must match the pulleys or it will not stay on.

Have 1997 Olds 88 V6 has occasional miss under load any ideas where to look?
I am an owner of an 1997 Olds 88.
You need to find out what cylinder(s) it is missing on. ((Take it to an Advanced Auto or AutoZone, and ask to use their Handheld OBDII Scanner..it should be free))
The car has been known to go through coils. If you have changed/checked the plugs and wires, check the coils, which, upon looking at the engine head on, should be on top, to the left, and are visible without having to remove the grey protectant cover. They are black, squarish looking knobs, and have numbers printed on them (usually 1-6), and obviously the spark plug wires will be leading from them.
How do you put an alternator belt on a 2001 Saturn L200?
look for a tensioner pulley, if you don't know what it looks like. then go to the nearest auto motive store and buy the book on your car. there should be a diagram on how the belt goes around the other pulleys if it is just one big belt, if not then look on the alternator bracket there should be around three bolts that need to be loosened. be sure the belt is tight before you tighten the bolts, put some pressure on the altenator. Hope the info helps...

How do you tighten the belt on a 1993 Probe?
Actually there are 2 different tensioners used.
On the 4 cylinders engine there is a spring hooked up to the tensioner bearing plate. If that one breaks you will have to replace the belt and also check the engine for faults since the 4 cylinder engine is an interference engine eg. the valves can (95% of the times) hit the pistons and bend.
Location: Top of engine in the middle of the two cam sprocket wheels.
On the 5 cylinder engine there is an hydraulic tension piston that pushes on a notch on the tensioner bearing plate.
It can be pressed back into place if one takes it off from the engine (2 bolts) and place it in an vice and gently and slowly presses the piston back in until you can push a tiny allen key through the hole and lock it in position.
If there is no resistance in the push rod and you can push it back with your hands you will have to get an replacement.
You can how ever reuse the timing belt if it looks in good shape (best is always to buy a new belt) if needed in an emergency.
The 6 cylinder engine is also a non interference engine which means that the pistons and the valves don't collide.
Location: Low to the back of the short side on the engine.
Saturns are notorious for serpentine belt tensioner failures. Buy a replacement tensioner and belt from your local parts store(about $70.00). Jack up the right front of the vehicle (passenger side), remove the right front tire. Remove the two plastic splash guards from the inner fender well. With the splash guards removed, you will see the serpentine belt tensioner. Using a 14 mm wrench, turn the center bolt of the tensioner clockwise. The pulley wheel will move away from the belt. With slack now in the belt, remove the belt from all the accessories (water pump, alternator, air conditioner pump, etc). Using a 10 mm socket and wrench, remove the two bolts securing the belt tensioner to the engine block. Remove the belt tensioner and replace with new unit (Make sure you install it in the same position as the old one--you can install it upside down). Using a torque wrench, tighten the two bolts to 20-22 foot pounds of torque. DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN! The engine block is aluminum and you will strip the threads (a major repair). Now thread the new belt in the manner shown on the small diagram on the radiator cover. Turn the belt tensioner bolt clockwise and slip the new belt over the pulley. The repair is complete. the belt will not slip or become loose.
If it a Serpentine belt, the tension is held tight by and idler wheel. If is is not a Serpentine belt, then there is an adjustment to tighten the belt. All belts stretch over time. A belt that has stretched to the point that the idler can no longer keep it tight, needs replacing. Also if the belt has cracks or frayed cords it needs replacing. A non serpentine belt is adjusted by loosing the bolts holding the accessory in place that the belt drives. For instance the alternator. After loosing these bolts, you slide the alternator to remove slack in the belt. Then re-tighten the bolts when the proper tension is placed on the belt.
because the bolt is striped or you pulley is no bad take it off and get another one

Where can you obtain a serpentine belt diagram for a 1998 Isuzu Rodeo 3.2 2WD?
The diagram that you may see for this belt might be totally different from what your Rodeo is. Mine has a smog pump on the upper pass. side. (it could be a second idler as well).
Starting at the bottom of the crank: grooves inward to the crank pulley:
Route straight up to the left side of the fan pulley / down to the left side of the A/C compressor / up to the right side of the pwr steering pump / straight across
to the left side of the smog pump (or idler) / down to the underside of the alternator / up to the next (or one) idler pulley-over the top / then down to the underside of the crank where you started. It will sound like this starting at the crank: up-over-down-under-up-straight left-down-under-up-down-home Ridiculous, eh?
Cannot fit auxiliary drive belt on a peugeot 405 94 modelcan any one help?
405's have two aux. belt tensioners. One at the bottom (manual adjustment with 6mm Allen key), and a spring loaded one at the top. On my 405 '96 1.9td, the spring loaded one seized, so instead of paying out around 80 GBP for a new one, i got a slightly smaller belt. works a treat.
