How do you tighten a fan belt on a 1971 volkswagen beetle?
Fan belt tension is set with shims. Look at your generator. There's a nut (21mm) on the shaft, and on the back half of the pulley (the one away from you) there are two slots. You stick a screwdriver in one of the slots to hold the pulley, and remove the nut with a 21mm wrench or socket. Slip the front half of the pulley off, and you're ready to start adjusting. There are, hopefully, two or three shims between the two halves of the pulley, and two or three more under the little cone that's between the nut and the pulley. To make the belt tighter, remove a shim from between the pulley halves and put it under the cone. To make it looser, put one of the shims under the cone between the pulley halves. If you don't have any shims between the pulley halves, you must replace the belt. To reassemble the car, have the shims you're going to use on the generator shaft. Loosely loop the belt over the shaft, then put the front pulley half back on, followed by the spare shims, the cone and the nut. Start tightening the nut without holding the pulley stationary. As you tighten, the belt will move into position. You want the belt to have about 1/2" of play halfway between the pulleys.

What kind of damage can gravel do to tires and wheels on your vehicle?
Aside from small cuts to your tread rubber and possibly a tread penetration, the biggest problem is stone retention. If your tires retain a lot of stone what can happen is that eventually they will be pounded through the tread rubber and into the steel belts which will allow moisture and oxidization to spread along the belts.

How do you change the spark plugs on a 1989 Chevy Celebrity 2.8 multi port?
To replace spark plugs:
1. Remove the spark plug wire. Twist the boot to free it up from the spark plug, then pull the wire off with the boot.
2. Use a 5/8" spark plug socket with suitable extension and either a ratchet or breaker bar to loosen the spar plug and take it out.
3. Set the gap on the new spark plug to 0.045" and use the spark plug socket to install it.
4. Reattach the spark plug wire and move to the next spark plug. I do them one at a time, that way I don't get them mixed up.
Now may be a good time to replace the spark plug wires.

Call a locksmith he can make you one on the spot.
Using the tools - Insert one of the tools into each pair of holes on the face of the radio - you'll feel a bit of a click when the tool hits the right spot. Push outwards on the top of the tools while pulling the radio out from the dash.
Once you've done this a time or 2, it'll take 30 seconds to pop any Ford radio out.
Disconnect the wiring harnesses and antenna.

Where is VW beetle brake fluid reservoir in a VW beetle 2000?
There is a large black plastic hose that runs from the air cleaner box (behind battery) to the intake manifold behind the engine. It is on the firewall behind that hose.
Where is the cam sensor on a 1997 Ford Aerostar V6 and how do you replace it?
The cam position sensor is located on the rear of the engine, under the "doghouse" cover. The black box under the center of the dash must be moved out of the way to remove the cover. The cam position sensor is slightly to the right of center and is held in by a 10mm screw. It looks like a small distributor. There is a cap held on by two Phillips screws and a wire harness plugged into the cap. Remove the cap first and mark the position of the rotor inside, relative to the body, and mark the flange on the base and the engine surface. (Use a Sharpie type marker.) Remove the sensor and make a second mark when the rotor inside moves as the sensor is removed. On the new sensor, make marks as close as possible to the marks on the old sensor to aid in aligning the sensor, when installing it. put the rotors mark on the second of the two marks on the inside of the sensor, install the sensor, and align the mark on the base flange and engine surface. The mark on the rotor inside should line up with the first mark made. Install the holddown screw and washer, do not over tighten! Install the wire haarness, and test drive to check the setting of the sensor. (Be sure to install a new cap if there is any damage to the original cap.) The sensor can be turned, slightly, like a distributor, for best performance. Or, if you have a repair shop nearby, with a dynomometer, you can have the mechanic adjust it for the best engine power.

If military time is 0145 what time is it on your regular clock?
The time would be 1:45am. Military time is very simple. The time is exactly as it appears on your normal clock until after 1200. If the number is higher than 1200 subtract 1200 from the number, and this will be a PM time of day. Example 2300 is 11PM (23:00-12:00=11:00)
How do you replace fog lights on a 2000 VW Beetle?
I had to replace just the lens on one of my fog lights and bought the assemby but couldn't figure out how to do it. I ended up with another problem with the car and under warranty the dealer had to remove the front bumper to fix that problem. With the bumper off, I asked them to replace the fog light. They did and I thus avoided the labor charge for removing the bumper. That is the only way to replace the fog light. It would have cost over $200 total.
Yeah the problem is that two of the screws that hold them in have their heads facing INTO the bumper where they are tough to see. (way to go VW) You CAN replace them yourself though although removing the screws is tedious. You will need and offset ("L" shaped) screwdriver or a Phillips head attachment for a rachet. You also need a mini hacksaw (yep a HACKsaw)
Ok. Look under the front grill area below the fender and locate the foglights. Under each one will be a screw securing it to the bumper. remove that screw.
Twist the back of the foglight cover counterclockwise to remove it and get it out of your way. Also remove the wire harness clip on the side.
You can then see the two upper screws that hold the grill onto the fender and that also attach the foglights. If you can reach them, use the offset screwdriver to remove those screws.
(hint, when you replacem them, drive the screws from the bottom)
I had to go through some gyrations to reach the screws though. To get them out of my way, I cut off the plastic mounts to the foglight (since it was going to be replaced anyway) I was also able to pry out the grill a little from the sides. to replace the grill, just make sure that the plastic tabs on the grill part go up OVER the plastic lip on the bumper. It kinda reminded be of prying a bicycle tire back onto the rim.
How do you remove the starter motor?
Started motors are located near the "Bell housing" and are connected to the block with 2 to 3 bolts. You will see the bell housing under the car because it is were the transmission is connected to. The starter motor is either on the right or left side. There are gears inside the starter that get thrown forward and engage the flywheel (inside bell housing), thus cranking the motor over to start. For most cars, this is and easy job. Some are difficult because of the tight space involved.
