the water pump is located under the exhaust manifold on a 2.4 litre i kno i just had to rebuild one of them and they will be fun to change cause u have to take the timing chain off to pull it out.
That hole is called a "weep hole". When the water pump goes bad, water will leak out of it. If you plug it, you won't know when the pump goes bad.

Where is the water pump located on a 1993 Chrysler Concorde?
On my 97 Concorde with the 3.5L engine the water pump is behind the timing belt cover. You must first take the timing belt cover off to see the water pump.
The 3.3L water pump is driven by the serpentine belt.
What causes leaking tell tale holes on water pumps?
The seals in the pump are leaking and the pump needs to be replaced.
What pulley is the tensioner on a serpentine belt?
I am not sure what year vehicle you are talking about, but the tensioner should be located towards the top of the engine. You will need a serpentine belt tool kit in order to replace it because I just replaced mine and it kind of a pain with the tool. Located near the RF tire, there is one large pulley to the left, the tensioner is the next pulley. the 3/8" will fit inside of the hole on the right side of the tensioner. Since the tensioner is under extreme pressure, be careful to 1. notice the configuration of the belt, 2. once the belt is off, try to lock the serp. tool, so that you have enough to push down on the tool to get new belt on. THE PULLEY HAS NO RIBS ON IT, if this might help you
How can you tell if your water pump is bad?
Most water pumps have a (weep) hole just under where the pulley go's into the pump body.=ok you fan blade is bolted to the front of your pump. looking down if you see a trinkel of water or a water stain on the front of it under the shaft you can bet your pump is gone.=

How do you remove fan clutch from water pump shaft on 91 Ranger with 3.0L Engine?
First, lubricate the large nut on the fan clutch with wd-40 or equivalent. Let it soak overnight if you have time. Then you will need a strap wrench to wrap around the pulleys to hold them from turning. Next, take an open end wrench and loosen the nut. The threads are left-handed, so turn opposite of normal way. Autozone can probably loan you the proper tools for free, just pay a refundable deposit. Good luck! use a strap wrench to keep pulleys still. nut is left-handed,ie,backwards.use wd-40.
How do you replace the water pump on a 1993 Buick LeSabre?
You need to take off the mortor mount on the the side that the water pump is on. There are two bolts on the top of the mount and two on the side of the mount be care taking them off so you don't break the bolts use a lot lubication. Put a jack under the oil pan with some kind of board on the jack for support. Kack up the engine for easier access to the water pump. Then take off the bolts holding the pump on clean off the old gasket.
AnswerI just did mine on a 92. I could not get the mount out because there is not enough room to slide it off the stud from the block. After cursing all American cars and their engineers, I noticed I could swing it to the right to get the pump bolts out. So, although you have to remove almost all the mount bolts, if you still can't slide it out, try sliding it to the right. I also jacked up the front of the motor until the power steering punp tank touched the cross member bar. Really not that bad - about 3 hours.Oh Yeh ! autozone.com has a great site having instructions and pics on how to do it.
This is a pay back post. I couldn't have done this without what I found on the net !!!!!
Where is the water pump located on 1996 Chrysler Concorde 3.5 v6?

How do you replace the water pump on a 1999 Pontiac Montana?
REMOVAL:1) Remove the plastic belt routing diagram (there is a bolt underneath if I remember correctly)(yep, 8mm).
2) Using a 3/8 breaker bar or a ratchet, insert into the belt tensioner and push toward the back of the engine enough to release tension on the belt with one hand, and with the other hand, remove the belt from the water pump pulley. Then remove the bar/ratchet from the tensioner.
3) Remove the 4 bolts holding the shiny pulley onto the water pump (11mm).
3a) Large catchpan underneath, there's more coolant in there than it looks like.
4) With a ratchet and possibly a short extension, carefully remove the 5 bolts that hold the water pump onto the block (8mm).
5) Pry the water pump away from the block and clean both surfaces so they are free of gasket material.
INSTALL:1) Line up the gasket and *carefully* fit the new water pump onto the block. The holes are very easy to line up wrong because they are almost, but not quite, equally spaced from each other, so be VERY careful you have all 5 holes lined up right.
2) Screw each bolt in a few tuns to make sure they all go in smoothly. If you get any resistance (it will feel like it's crossthreaded), you have the holes wrong, and you need to rotate the water pump so the holes are lined up right. I can't stress this enough.
3) Torque all the bolts down (I can't recall the exact in/lbs - sorry) in a star pattern.
4) Mount the pulley onto the water pump shaft, torque bolts down (an air ratchet helps greatly here as the shaft will try to spin when the bolts start getting tight).
5) Release the tension as explained in step 2 at the top, put the belt back on the water pump pulley & double check to make sure it's on all the other pulleys while you're at it.
6) Bolt the plastic bolt routing diagram back onto the head.
7) Refill the reservoir and bleed the system of air.
That's it! It's an hour or so job if you've never done it before.
Note, if you're not using a gasket, get some water pump gasket sealer and make a gasket around the entire diameter of the mounting surface of the water pump. Remember to make little circles around the bolt holes also.
Where is the water pump located on a 1999 Oldsmobile Aurora and how hard is it to change the gasket?
Facing engine, on right side . It will be attached to a radiator hose leading to the thermostat. To the left of the pump will be a small belt and tension pulley that drives it. You will need 10mm socket for housing removal and a special socket tool ( about 3" in diam. that can be rented or loaned through Auto Zone car stores. About an hour and a half working time. Good luck.
98 Aurora owner.
Just replaced my water pump. Got an estimate from a garage, 340 bucks? I bought the pump (new pump) 57.99 and I bought the special socket for 21.00. Took me less than an hour from start to finish. Amazingly simple water pump to change. The hose clamps are a bit strong and were the most difficult item to remove. Had to use a very large pair of channel locks to get them off.
I would not have done a compression test unless I noticed a running problem or the customer complained of one.

I just spent 3 long evenings after work replacing the water pump for a 96 Kia Sephia. The old water pump was in very bad shape and the sound it made was very loud. The bearing had failed and coolant steamed out of the weep hole and the front of the housing profusely.
I suggest removing the power steering resevior bolts any clamp that holds any hard or flexible tubing along that side of the engine in place. You will find yourself with your hands over, under and through the lines most of the time. I had the car on two jackstands positioned behind the front A-arms and i lifted the vehicle with a large floor jack positioned under the center of the front support beam. There is a fairly large nub that the jack could rest around as I elevated the front. I removed the front right tire but found that most of my time was spent above looking into the engine bay from the front right corner leaning over the fender.
I had to remove the alternator tensioner bracket completely to allow for it to swing back far enough the slide the water pump out. The power steering pump is easily moved once the tentioner bolt is unscrewed/loosened by using a large crowbar wedged between the power steering pump and its bracket from the front of the engine bay, pulling forward as a lever to move it clear.
NOTE: Be sure to mark timing belt with something that will stick and is easy to see. I used soapstone and sharpies. Be aware, while you are working in this confined spaced, the timing cogs will get bumped, turned, jumped or whatever so it is IMPERATIVE that you mark all reference points before removing the timing belt. If you do not mark, and engine jumps timing, you will probably doing a valve job, or worse.
