Most likely the water drain line from the AC evaporator is plugged and the condensate water and dust inside has fermented. When you park at idle with the AC on there will soon be a pool of water on the ground in he area behind the right front tire. If you don't have any then find the drain line and clean it. A leaking heater core can put antifreeze in that box also and it is not a pleasant smell.

If you stopped as soon as it overheated, you probably have no damage, unless the head gasket has blown. This would require replacing the head gasket and possibly resurfacing or replacing the head. Depends on why the gasket blew, if it indeed is blown. One problem could the water inlet hose "O" ring on the pipe that goes from the lower radiator hose to the block. Also your heater core could be leaking. If that's the case, your front windshield will fog up in the colder weather.sounds like your heater core is bad or leaking as was spoke of. for you said whenyour heat it on , there is a sweet smell. You get your heat from the heater core, so if your smelling antifreeze when your heater is on, I would believe , it's your heater core. As far as the sweet smell your getting from the heat.

It is common for condensation to accumulate in the evaporator core and cause an odor. There are air freshoners that can be sprayed through the fresh air intake and help sometimes. Contact the ford dealer.
Hey Chris==You really need special gauges to check the exhaust gasses. Take it to a garage that haas these gauges. GoodluckJoe Thanks joe, but I just got emmisions, and everything that Arizona emissions testing tests was about 1/2 the limit, where 2 years ago they were less than a 10th. I had the injectors replaced, and changed out the Y-pipe on the exhaust before, but now the gradual problem has given my car a major performance hit, the exhaust is very rich, (in other words in engine not getting enough air). What could be things that would cause that? I use sythetic oil now to help protect, but there is definatly a problem. And lets say it's not compression, what then? Check your EGR valve. A plugged EGR will cause loss of power and will cause the exhaust to smell like rotten eggs.
