Car Starting Problems

If you have replaced the starter, battery, and cables, there are only about two or three things left that could cause this problem. One: The engine is frozen. If the battery cable gets very hot (hot enough to smoke or smell) when you turn the key, check to see of the crankshaft will turn with a wrench on the crankshaft pulley bolt. Two; The ignition switch has gone bad. Check the wire from the switch to the starter selenoid for current when the key is turned. This varies by vehicle and age. Three; on modern cars, when certain elements of the safety and immition control sensors don't work, the car won't start, and this includes the computer. Two and Three are related, since there won't be any current at the selenoid if either problem is present. On a modern vehicle, the computer keep error codes in memory (if they weren't wiped when you pulled the battery) and they can be read with a code reader. IN most cases, the computer will initiate a code for that kind of error when you first try to start it. If you can't get any codes at all, check out the computer.

There could be various reasons for the tapping. My first inclination would be to check the oil dipstick level and be certain that the oil has been changed. Worn out dirty oil will wear out a motor fast. You could need the valves adjusted or something replaced in the valve train. However, it could be something more serious. If it is louder than just a mere tapping, I would say that you possibly have a rod knocking. If you catch this early enough, then it could be fixed by a mechanic with a few parts. If you wait too long, then the rod could eventually eat through your engine wall. The only safe way to fix that would be to replace the engine block or the whole engine.

Hi there, there are numerous possibilities on what it could be so i have listed below in order to change first cheapest to the most expensive. 1. Change Sparkplugs and leads 2. Get an auto electrition to check your altinator it may need changing 3. If your car is EFI (Electronic Fuel Injected) change the coil pack, if not EFI change or recondition your distributor 4. Could be a sensor or a solinoide problem 5. If its EFI it could also be the ECU/ECM which means your computer for the car. hope this helps. its what i would do.

No, it does not have a crank sensor. the optispark (distributor) does the job that a crank and cam sensor would do for that model of Camaro. they added one for sure in 1997 I know that because I have had a 93 94 95 and 97 Camaro z28

not sure if 96 has one or not I haven't had one of those to work on but they are real easy to find on the models that have them they are located at the bottom of the timing cover and have a 3/8 bolt that holds them in.

Sounds like a starter issue. Bad wire to the starter could cause it.

If the starter makes no attempt to crank the engine and you did not disconnect the negative battery cable from the battery during the clutch job, maybe the battery drained from something left on while you had the truck apart (ignition left on, doors left open, etc).

starter is located on the side of the engine, down low and to the rear where the transmission bolts to engine block

check the coil pack. and look for an internal oil leak either thro the piston rings head gasket or valve guides

You wouldn't happen to be using too heavy of an engine oil ? What grade of engine oil are you using ?

Crank angle sensor or coolant temprature sensor are the two favourites that will cause a non start

If the battery and alternator are both good, Test them to be sure, then you need to take a multimeter and verify that the power from the alternator is actually reaching the battery. It could be a simple wiring problem

The reason your 2001 Hyundai Sonata lost all power while you were driving and stalled and won't start again is either the battery or the alternator. If you have no power you most likely have an alternator problem.

Your engine is flooded so hold the throttle wide open and crank it over until you hear it start or fire then use the normal way you start it and you should be good to go.

Chances are your fuel pump or pressure regulator is bad, or your injection system is not working. There is a fuse for the injection system but it varies in location in every vehicle, some under hood, some in fuse box. Find the schrader valve on your fuel rail and press a pen tip to the valve (just like the air valve in your tires, have a friend try to start the car, if a small squirt or two of gas comes out of this valve when cranking you may have a bad injection control module, if no gas squirts (not dribbles) out chances are your fuel pump is dead. Common causes for a bad injection system or the injectors not operating is the crank sensor a.k.a. crank position sensor / crank angle sensor, the fuel injection system will not recognize that the engine is turning and will not activate the fuel injector units.
