Fuel and Engines

We commonly relate fuel and engines with gasoline. Other engines also run on natural gas such as propane and “bio-fuels” such as ethanol. The principle remains the same as the fuel induces internal combustion.

What do I do when I put gasoline in my tank instead of diesel?

You need to drain it out and change the fuel filter. Do not run it that way.

AnswerIf gasoline was put into a diesel car or truck under no circumstances should the engine be started. The tank must be drained, fuel lines blown out and possibly fuel filter replaced. Attempting to start the engine with gasoline will damage the injection system very quickly.

Will 426 Chrysler heads fit on a 440 block?

I believe I read someplace that they will fit with a little machining.

2000 intrepid cyl 6 is misfiring which cylinder is 6 27L?

passenger side front cylinder is number 1 and next is 3 and then 5 drivers side is 2 , 4, 6 last.

How much does a 2003 YZ250f engine weigh?

mostlikly around 80lbs. bike itself weighs about 220 or so. forks are about 60 frames like 40... so 80 at the most id say.

What causes engine knock?

Could be too much timing, too much compression for the type of fuel being used, or maybe a vacuum leak creating a lean condition.

What possibly causes your Nissan Stanza 92 XE engine to vibrate at low speeds or when releasing the accelerator?

Not sure if your problem is my problem but here goes, The mass air sensor on my car that reads the air intake must have a loose wire (behind electrical tape), when pushing on it i can get the var to run really rough if in the wrong position (disconnected?) If i play around with it, I can get it to run normal, but if in the wrong position it vibrates, runs at about 400 rpm and is really weak, (sounds like its running on less cylinders) to boot, hope this helps you in your problem.

Why does my engine make a tapping noise at idle?

possibly low oil or low oil pressure, the tapping may be coming from the oil operated hydraulic lifters.

Why does Engine burns oil on startup?

sounds like bad valve guides, and/or rings

If engine runs smooth when hot? I don't think it's the guides I would check the valve seals. also need to pull valve covers to make sure oil return holes are open in the heads.

What is the next step to find the route cause of a cylinder misfiring if a complete tuneup has been performed including spark plug wires must injectors be replaced?

In such a situation, it is best to recheck what has already been done: Were the cap and rotor both replaced? Were they the correct ones? I have been sold these parts that I was TOLD they were correct, only to find they were not. Even minor differences can cause problems. Also, check the tightness of the distributor as well as the tightness of the distributor shaft. Bad distributor bearings can cause the rotation to be out of round and cause problems.

Another thing to look into is the compression of each cylinder. Assuming that the plugs were replaced, were all of the OLD ones dry or were any "oiled up"?

With these points addressed, you may have to look into the fact that one of the injectors may be faulty. They operate on varying voltages and can misread the information. If you have a multipoint fuel injection, you may want to have the Computer diagnosed as well.

SOMETIMES you can use a strong additive like BG 44K that can clean clogged injectors. It can be found at NAPA Auto Parts and is a on the pricey side. BUT, if it IS a clog problem that this stuff fixes, you'll be getting off cheap! Good Luck!

1996 Mercury Mystique?

This car sucks. I've had one for about 2 years. It's caused me many problems, and I regret buying it. Don't buy it if that's what you were asking about.

How much horsepower does a Ford 4.9 liter inline 6 cylinder engine have?

145 at the differential. Give or take 190 at the flywheel. Pre 1971 = HP at the flywheel, Post '71 = HP at the diff.

(145 horse at the fly wheel for EFI. Carb'd was roughly 120.

Both had 260 torque.)

Will a 1989 suzuki engine interchange with a 1995 tracker?

Yes it should, with a bit of work. But first, is the car registered or do you intend to register it? In CA anyway, it is illegal to put an older engine in a newer car, and if you do and get caught you will not be able to register the car. It IS legal to put a newer engine in an older car, but technically then it must pass the smog rules of the newer engine, which means it could be problematic. But if you're looking at a pure off-roader that's something else. The reason I say "it should" is that Geo Tracker 1600cc engines were commonly swapped into Suzuki Samurai's to give them more power. Generally you would put an 8 valve Geo engine into a Samurai...if you had a 16 valve Geo you had more stuff you needed to bring over with it. SO: If your Geo Tracker has an 8 valve engine: The samurai engine should be able to reuse the same intake and exhaust manifolds. The bell housing of the transmission will probably not have "ears" in the right places to bolt onto the samurai block, so it will need modification. And there may be challenges with the starter too. I never made a tracker engine -> samurai body swap but had read a lot about it. Some folks sold an engine/transmission adapter plate, others talked about just having someone who could weld aluminum weld on new ears on the bell housing. Since the Geo is fuel injected, it uses an electronic fuel pump at much higher pressure than the carburatored samurai used. The Samurai "head" will have an eccentric off the camshaft to drive a rod out the side of the rear of the passenger side of the head to drive the mechanical fuel pump. But since you will be reusing the Geo manifold, fuel injector, and fuel pump you do not need the mechanical fuel pump off the samurai engine. So you could just unbolt the samura fuel pump, pull out the little rod or shaft, and then make a small trapizoidal shaped plate to bolt on in place of the fuel pump so oil does not pour out the fuel pump hole. IF you have a 16-valve Geo I would not consider using a Samurai engine....you would have to swap in the Samurai intake manifold and carb, and keep the mechanical fuel pump and disable or eliminate the stock geo one, and on and on. It would be a lot of work to have a much weaker engine.

Are a 95 -96 blazer 4.3 vortex the same?

The 95 4.3 was not exactly the same as the 96' 4.3. In general, the block(casting), the intake, heads are all different. In addition, the oil pan for '96 and up is an aluminum pan, the '95 had a stamped steel. Also the '95 4.3 were either TBI or CPI engines, '96 and up were CSFI engines. These engines are not interchangeable, one will not bolt up to the other and vise versa. Hope this helps.

If one cylinder head is cracked will the other be cracked also?

no, usually u will only crack one at a time

but on the flipside, depending on the engine, by the time you tear down all the ignition/injection/intake stuff you might be better off just removing the other head and getting it checked out and replacing the head gasket so you don't regret it a few thousand miles later...

Will using aprox. 6 gallons of low sulfur diesel fuel 50 ppm in a 30 gallon tank fuel damage an engine?

Assuming that the remainder of the gas tank was filled with regular gas it should not harm the engine. It may run rough for a while but as long as the diesel is mixed with a good amount of regular gas it will be fine.

When do you change fuel injectors?

I only change a fuel injector if it fails. I own and operate 8 Chevy Celebrities and have only had 3 fuel injectors, all on the same car, fail.

I do not know of a set change frequency such as there is with timing belts.
