Grand Am GT

What would cause the air conditioning in a 2001 Pontiac Grand AM GT to work on the 3 and above settings but not on 1 and 2?

The problem is definitely solved by replacing the blower motor resistor. The part is about $15 from Autozone and takes all of 30 minutes to install. You have to take out the glove compartment and then remove the resistor from behind the blower. The new resistor is a bit bigger than the OEM one, but everything fits together and works well now. There is a diagram at this link: http://autorepair.about.com/library/a/1a/bl312a.htm

AnswerThe blinker problem is a recall your local Pontiac dealer will fix it for free. AnswerI just bought a 2001 Grand AM GT. I also noticed that the 1 & 2 setting are way low. I don't think that it is that they don't work, I just think they are very low to the point where it hardly even moves air through the cabin. Try putting the right knob that controls the direction of air to the top vents only. See if you can feel a trickle of air then. AnswerI have a 2002 Grand Am GT and had the same problem. It's definitely the "Blower motor resistor" which needs replacing. Cost me about 30 bucks for the part and 20 bucks for labor at the Pontiac dealership. Later. AnswerHave a 2001 GT and have had the blower replaced twice. Also noticed recently the blower is stronger at higher speeds ( go figure?)... I have 150,000 on the car and have had limited issues outside of new transmission and defective blinker issues... AnswerI also have the same problem in my 2001 Pontiac Grand Am and it makes it a real pain because its always really hot or really cold, no happy medium. Also I see that other ppl also have blinker problems with their Grand Ams - me too. Also I recently experienced the "bug" in the Remote keyless entry system that doesnt allow the car to start for no known reason. Resetting the computer using the key in the on position for 10 minutes solved the problem. The more I read the more Im considering heading to the dealership asap for a new vehicle AnswerI had a brand new key made and that resolved the intermittent pass-lock failure you were talking about. The key and ignition cylinder were worn and a brand new key (not cut from the worn key) solved the problem. I was told I would eventually need to replace the ignition cylinder, but this fix has bought me a lot of time.

This happened to me and my mother. We both have 2001 Grand Am's. It is the air conditioning unit/or air conditioning fan (I can't remember which). They had to replace it. Luckily it was under warranty. It happened again to my mother with the new part and she had to pay the second time because she was no longer under warranty.

The blibker problem is a recall on the 2001 Grand Ams. Your local Pontiac dealer will fix it for free.

The security light is flashing on 1996 Pontiac grand am causing staring problem?

I thought I had the same problem with my grand am, and it turned out that I needed to go to the dealer and have the transmission fluid flushed, and changed. It seem this is not someone a car owner can do unless they have a way to pick the front end up to let the ait out of it. I had to do it around 80,000 miles

3.0 96 Ford Taurus wont start replaced the starter and still wont start what do you think it is?

Laern about bad conections1.There is a starter relay in the engine compartment that connects the battery +12 volts to the starter when you turn the key to the start position. The shift selector has to be in neutral or park.

2. If you can't hear the relay "thunk" then you have to trace the connections from the ignition switch, thru the transmission park and neutral switch and to that relay. 3. If the relay "thunks"(meaning it is working) - then you must check the battery cable connection on the starter, relay and battery. A voltmeter is helpful here and an assistant to turn the key for starting while you read the voltage. Loose connections are 90% of all problems. A blacken, burnt looking connection or wire means it overheated because of a loose connection.fix it!

Check tightnees on all the 12 volt connection.

How do you fix a drivers side window on a grand am gt 2004 that has come off its track?

When a window goes off track on a 2004 Grand Am GT, the door panel has to be removed. The cable for the window is then reset on the track or repaired and the door panel put back on.

How do you replace the license plate bulb on a 2000 Ford Focus 4-dr sedan?

These are beauties. You'll need the socket and is part of the lense. It comes from the dealer and runs about $45.00 if I remember right. I know the contours have this style, and I am pretty sure the focus is the same. Correct me if I, m wrong when you find out..

      • CORRECT ANSWER***

You will need to open the trunk. In the inside of the lid there is carpeting. It is secured with Philips screw-pins. Remove these from one side only. You will then be able to pull back the carpet to access the bulb, and lens. Then you will need to pry out the old bulb and insert the new one. Don't get discouraged if this take a few tries or minutes, it's an acquired skill.

**NO AQUIRED SKILL NECCESARY!

You could start by uncrewing the license plate itself. Once you remove the plate it will

make the next process alot easier. Use a Slotted (flat or straight) screwdriver and you

can pop the entire plastic light cover out from the outside. Get the screwdriver in from

one side and pop it out this will make it easier to change the bulb. Bulb should cost around

$5 at your local auto parts store.

You have 99 Chevy Cavalier it won't start and your theft system light comes on everything seems to work when you turn the key on but it won't start?

You must leave the key in the ignition on the "run position" for 15 minites until the theft light stops flashing then you are able to start the car (if you try to start the car before that you will have to start the time and process over again). If you have a aftermarket alarm in the vehicle you must disable the stock alarm through your dealer. if that is not the situation i would check the starter, wireing on the starter and or battery.

Why will a car start but only run a few seconds?

Anyway, is you fuel gauge hooked up when you run it? If so is it in spec?

Is your spark tester hooked up?

AnswerOkay, Spark is eliminated, the only 2 things left are compression or fuel.

By the way, the check engine light may or may not have anything to do with the no start.

Turn the key in the "run" position and listen for the fuel pump. IF you don't hear it, open the door to the fuel cap and have someone else cycle the key-don't crank it. The pump should hum. IF it doesn't, proceed with the following:

Access the throttle body. spray some starting fluid or other combustible liquid of a similar nature in it breifly while someone cranks the motor. If it seems to want to turn over and run, pulse the starting fluid into the throttle bore enough to keep it running... or not.

If it runs, you are lacking fuel. If it doesn't make a difference, it may be compression.

If you heard the pump run, then still follow the procedure with the starting fluid, un you can see fuel getting into the throttle bore when cranking.

Answercheck you ignition switch, check spark, fuel pump, voltage regulator, pick up coil in dist, AnswerSounds like a Pass-key problem 2 me... AnswerIt could also be a vacuum leak or related air problem. You might want to have the mass air flow sensor tested just in case, you can do it yourself or have an auto parts dealer do it. I know Auto Zone does testing for free, I use them every time.

2001 grand am gt turns over but wont start?

Sometimes my sons 2001 Grand Am does that. It has to do with the Security System. Turn the key to ACC the Security light will start blinking and will continue to do so for 10 minutes. At that time the Security Light will stay on. At that point you can start you car. This works for him Good Luck.

How do you change the timing chain tensioner timing gears timing chain cover gasket and valve cover gasket on a 96 Chevy Corsica?

I just replaced the valve cover gaskets on a 93 Corsica with the 3.1 V6 engine. The front valve cover was not to bad since it is easily accessible. The rear valve cover took quite a bit more work. Here are the steps that I followed.

Bear in mind that this was the first time I had attempted this and I did not have a service manual. This may not be the technically correct way to replace the rear valve cover.

1. Unbolt the alternator and move it aside. ( I was able to lay it on the front of the engine to keep it out of the way.

2. Unbolt and remove the upper engine mount from the engine and the body. (the upper mount is the alumium piece that connects the upper front of the engine to the passenger side inner fender wall.)

3. "Roll" the engine forward. I connected a come-a-long to the back engine lifting eye and pulled the engine forward. (I pulled against the sturdy bench in my garage).

4. Mark and disconnect the throttle, cruise, and transmission kick-down linkages from the upper rear of the intake manifold.

5. Disconnect the power brake booster vacuum line.

6. Mark anc disconnect the vacuum lines to the bracket at the back of the intake. I am not sure what it is called. It is a plastic module mounted to metal bracket that retains the throttle, cruise, and transmission kick down linkage cables. BE CAREFULL with the vacuum lines. The hard plastic lines on this 93 were brittle and I broke two of them. I had to unbolt the intake manifold and splice the plastic hard lines back together using 5/32" vacuum line.

7. Remove the bracket that holds the throttle, cruise, and transmission kick down linkages.

8. Mark and remove the rear spark plug wires. While the spark plugs are accessible, I would change the plugs and wires.

9. Remove the alternator braket and the front engine lift eye (Both are attached with the same bolts)

10. Disconnect the power steering return line.

11. Now it should be possible to loosen the four bolts that hold the valve cover on.

Reverse procedure to reassemble.

What does 5 x 4.5 bolt pattern mean?

"The bolt pattern or bolt circle is the diameter of an imaginary circle formed by the centers of the wheel lugs. Bolt patterns can be 4, 5, 6, or 8 lug holes. A bolt circle of 4x100 would indicate a 4 lug pattern on a circle with a diameter of 100mm." 5 x 4.50 converts to 5 x 114.3 (mm). http://www.tirerack.com/wheels/tech/techpage.jsp?techid=92

How do you troubleshoot a cylinder misfire on a 1999 Dodge Grand Caravan ES AWD V6 3.8l showing dtc p0305 cylinder 5 misfire?

First you have to eliminate the most obvious problems, like spark plug and spark plug wire. If you replace those and you still have a misfire, then it's a good idea to look for a vacuum leak in the intake manifold and also conduct a compression test.

1990 ford E350 RV the fuel gauge does not go to full and when it shows empty it maybe 15 gals or more left over what do you replace gauge or sending unit?

It sounds to me like your gas float in the tank has a crack in it and gas has leaked into the float, I had a problem with the same year and on mine the float was full and the gage always showed empty. I removed the assembly and manually moved the float so it should show a half tank and it did, moved it to full and it sowed full. Then I uncliped the float from the assembly and shook it and it was full of gas. If I remember right the float from a ford dealer was under ten dollars. I've got a 1989 e350 winnebago. Mine showed empty all the time. The float was full of gas. Mine would also "run out" of gas with about 15 gallons left. Turns out the in tank fuel pump on the assembly was also shot. Found a complete replacement assembly for about a hundred bucks. If yours is a 460 engine with a 36-40 tank, the number to search for is E2071S.

How do you turn off the abs light on 2002 BMW z3?

There are many reasons the light comes on as this is a complex system. You can not turn it off. It must be reset after the fault is fixed. Sometimes dirty speed sensors in the brakes will turn it on. It could be a "broken" control module or ABS pump, both of which are big $$$ to fix. This is a common problem with the Z3s and their ABS/traction control system. If the light is on, you still have brakes, just not ABS.

How do you bleed the brake line of a 97 Pontiac grand am gt?

someone sits in the car slowly pressing the brake peddle while you have the brake line open. When finished bleeding the brakes, don't forget to refill the master cylinder.

My trac off light came on and your car was stiff and then it shut down in the road .restarted no problem but the light came back on why is that?

Let’s take a moment and explain why the electronic traction control which is called Enhanced Traction System (ETS) warning light will turn on when the engine computer sees a problem. The ETS system monitors wheel speed via the Anti-lock Brake System (ABS). If the ETS system sees a wheel spinning due to snow, ice, rain etc., the ETS computer sends a request to the vehicle’s engine computer to reduce torque. The engine computer responds with a combination of strategies. In the engine computer’s bag of tricks to stop wheel spin it can perform any one or combination of the following; cut fuel off by trimming or turning off fuel injectors, retard the spark timing or up shift the transmission. In the days of old we just let up on the gas pedal. Now the computer does it for you. If you have an engine running problem it is more of a problem than you realize. The engine computer is the high command center. The engine computer will work and respond to information from the other computers in the vehicle. But in the event there is a system or running problem that the engine computer is responsible for, “it will” lock out all of the other vehicle computers. If there is an engine running problem that causes the engine computer to store a code and turn on the “Check Engine” light guess what computer doesn’t talk to the others? The engine computer. The ETS computer gets all put out when this occurs and turns its warning light on in protest. So, there you have it. If the check engine light is on the ETS warning light will come on as well and the ETS system will not operate until the engine computer problem is corrected. I am surprised that the "Check Engine Light" is not on. If it were just a problem with the ETS then the vehicle would not stall. Make sure that light is actually working. You should see it any time you turn on the ignition, before you start the engine. The bottom line is to take it to a professional and have the computer scanned. Otherwise you may just throw parts at the problem, and spend way more money in the long run.

Is Oldsmobile alero v6 better than Pontiac grand am gt?

To me it is for a few reasons, 1 is yyou are paying more money for the GT meanwhile the reg. grad am was alot cheaper than the alero, all the gt has more that the alero is Ram Air and all that is is the car sucks the air in faster so you get about 2 hp more. however the alero is better built due to the fact that it is an Oldsmobile and because it is from the Cadialic Family so it is good quaility parts, also the alero is a cross bettween a sports car and a luxuary car just by looking at it
