Well I had that problem when I got my qx4....Simple note...key doesnt go all the way inside key hole.....some of the key should be sticking out and then turn gently....hope that helps

I had this problem one morning and called my mechanic. I also thought it was the ignitiion, but he told me to try another key. That was the problem! My key had worn down enough to not work properly. It seemed like the ignition was bad because I could not unlock the steering wheel. If you think about it, changing the ignition gives you a new key. Always try the least expensive first.

probably the starter at least that is where I would start at anyway. I had the same problem but after so long the car would crank and I was told the starter but have not had problem again.

A faulty fuel pump will make a 1996 Chevy Tahoe hard to start after it sets for a few hours. The pump can allow fuel to leak back into the gas tank and starve the engine for fuel.

Its a starter that has a set of gears between the motor and the starter pinion which allows higher-speed, lower-current, lighter and more compact motor assembly while increasing cranking torque.

Check your battery for loose connections and check your alternator.

Use your key in the drivers side door turn it both ways

This might help you a little bit,I have a 96 Cherokee that dose that, took it to shop still having problem your flywheel may be the problem you starter maybe in a dead spot on your flywheel(Missing a tooth)

I'm hoping that you are not in traffic when you stall the car !! Some ignition switches for instance on VW's, the key has to be turned to the full off position and then on again in order to start. I would find a large parking lot to practice in - get to the point of never stalling before venturing out into the traffic flow.

To bypass the security pull the fuse. For the other issues there may be a problem with the computer in the car.

Check the fuse box, often there are idling regulator circuits that have simply blown a fuse, these are also the easiet to overlook.

Depends on the type of starter, or I should say manufactuer.

My pool guy was just here today and he offered the following suggestions when he fixed my teledyne heater (paraphrased): If the heater isn't getting enough water flow through it, it will stop. If you open up the heater panel on the bottom, there is a round thing on the left with a small round center. There are a few wires coming off of this. This is a safety device that senses if the lines are getting water in the heater unit. If you look at the middle of this knob looking thing there is a slot. He turned the slot (looks like a standard screwdriver slot) counter clockwise (as if to loosen it). That did the job for mine. Also, it could be some sort of clog in a line preventing the heater unit from getting adequate water flow. He warned me NOT TO open the screw thing too much, after all it IS a safety feature. If it doesn;t work don;'t loosen it too much. Also, the thing goes off when I run my Polaris filter.

Before you start adjusting something you absolutely know nothing about:

Have you cleaned the filter lately? When was the last time the filter was serviced? When was the last time the heater was serviced? That screw looking device is for one specific type of problem and in almost all cases will not apply to your specific heater problem.

You might have to bypass the security system or replace it. GM used the Passkey I, II and III security systems.....bypass kits for these can be found on Ebay and some other car websites.

3 components of combustion are spark, fuel and compression. You think you eliminated 2 of them, leaving fuel. Spray starting fluid into the throttle body, then crank it and see if it starts temporarily. If so lack of fuel is right. Check the cold start fuel injector. I have a '91 with same problem. Removed the cold start fuel injector, which was VERY gummed up, sprayed it off with throttle body cleaner, re-installed it, engine started perfectly. You can find this on about the middle of the throttle body housing. It will have a small fuel rail and electrical connector.

A locksmith may be able to remove the broke key and make a new one. Or just replace the ignition.

Are you sure the battery has enough juice (13.5volts)? Is the engine locked up? Try turning the motor by hand. If the engine is not seized, take the starter off and bench test it. Recheck your negative battery cable, a very good chance your problem lies there.

The same thing happened to my 1995 full size bronco today. I took the battery cables off cleaned each one, and still the same problem. I replaced the starter, solenoid, finally noticed my ground wire from my intake to the fire wall was charred. So I checked my lower battery cable connections and my ground was not connected. I replaced my firewall ground and replaced my battery ground wire and all my problems were solved. Even my dash readings were fixed, I always had crazy readings on my dash (temp, oil pressure and amp gauge) all were fixed with the installation of my new ground wires.

i have no idea what type of motor that the troope even has but your exhuast manifold is gonna be under the hood and the very starting point of your exhaust(the part that touches the motor and gets real hot real quick)

Alternator can be discounted for starting problem; it charges the battery when the engine is running it has nothing to do with starting the car.

If the engine is not turning over (cranking) when you try to start it, either the igniton switch, wiring or starter motor are at fault. Also check the thick cable from battery negative/body to the engine block.

NOTE if the car is automatic the park/neutral switch could be faulty. If the car is alarmed it could be an immobilizer fault.

Difficult to know from your question but if engine starts with charged battery, check WITH ENGINE RUNNING for 14 volts approx across battery terminals. If volts less than 12, swap out the alternator

if you haven't changed the timing belt recently, you might as well change the timing belt, water pump, and both idler pulley and timing belt tensioner. This way you can set the timing with the proper tools, that's probably what you'll have to do anyhow since the belt moved, hopefully it didn't damage any valves when you tried to start it and the belt was off timing.

sounds like your distributer is installed 180 degrees wrong. remove distributor, turn shaft 180 degrees and reinstall. that should fix the problem
