Is there a fuel system shutoff and reset on a 2001 Grand Am?
I have a 2001 and it does have a fuel shut off, but only activates when the passlock system is activated. If it seems to happen intermittently, have a new key made. My old keys and lock cylinder were worn out and causing the anti-theft system to engage. If you go through the 10-minute reset procedure (in your manual) it will start. I had a new key made (not cut from an existing key) and the problem has not happened again in over 6 months. Eventually I am told you would need a new ignition cylinder, but this is a cheaper temporary solution.
In short, the only fuel shut-off is the pass-lock fuel pump disabler.Hope that helps.
AnswerI have a 2000 Pontiac Grandam with the famous Ass-Lock system installed, had the same problem, very frustrating.Your anti-theft passlock system senses the RESISTANCE value across your ignition cylinder when your key is in it, over time your key will 'wear' the inside of your ignition cylinder and itself thus changing the 'R' ( resistance value ) to the trigger threshold and causing intermittent ' fuel shutoff ' problems due to Passlock. A new Key and ignition coil will fix the problem, OR there is an easy workaround. From inside the car, pull the center panel-shroud off, this is the plastic housing surrounding the stereo and climate controls, it is just clipped on and easily removed, once off you will be able to see and access the wire bundle coming off the rear of your ignition cylinder, you may need to remove some of the black insulating wrap to reveal the wires. You are looking for the only yellow wire, this is the ' R ' ( resistance sensing ) lead for your passlock, with the ignition turned on, cut this wire, the Passlock will assume sensor failure, illuminate the SECURITY light in your dash and bypass the fuel-shut-off portion of the protection system. If you wish you can remote a switch by addig about 5 bux worth of extra wire and a switch between the now cut ends of the yellow 'R' lead and routing the remote switch under the dash, this allows you to re-enable your passlock fuel bypass security system at your leisure. The only disadvantage to this workaround is the constant illumination of the SECURITY light, however your central locking and all other features remain fully functional and hey you won't have to spend another 10 minutes beating your dash waiting on the system to reset. Good Luck !How do you replace the fuel filter located on a 2002 Pontiac Grand Am SE?
Page 1-24
"1. Relieve the fuel system pressure (see chapter 4). Disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery. *** Note - at this point there is a warning about the antitheft capability being disrupted if the lockout feature is not turned off before disconnecting the battery.
2. Raise the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands.
3. The fuel filter is mounted on the floor pan just in front of the fuel tank (see illustration [see comment below marked "#1"] ).
4. Use compressed air or carburetor cleaner to clean any dirt surrounding the fuel inlet and outlet line fittings.
5. Once all the dirt has been removed, twist the two lines a quarter-turn in opposite directions to loosen the fitting. Depress the white plastic quick-disconnect tabs and detach the inlet line from the fuel filter (see illustration [see comment below marked "#2"] ). Note: Have spare rags or a small container to catch or wipe up extra gasoline that will spill from the filter assembly.
6. Use an open end wrench to steady the outlet side of the filter and a flare nut wrench to unscrew the fuel line nut, then separate the outlet line from the filter while noting the installed position of the O-ring. Using a flare nut wrench will help to avoid rounding the corners off of the fuel line nut.
7. Detach the fuel filter mounting bracket bolt and remove the fuel filter.
8. Installation is the reverse of removal. Note: Be sure to install a new O-ring on the outlet line before reassembling."
hopefully this helps a bit. if you don't know how to depressurize your system post and I'll try to keep an eye open for it. good luck and be safe.

If you mean the turn signal flasher it is located under the dash near the steering column. If one side still flashes, turn on that sides signals and track down the clicking sound. Often one side will quit working before the entire thing quits. Your four way flasher looks the same but it is a different circuit.
AnswerThe flasher is an electronic device incorporate with the hazard warning switch. It is selected thru turn-signal switch when "H" switch is out. It is refered to as a timer. The relay switch for your turn signals is located behind your hazard light flashers. It is literally DIRECTLY BEHIND the button used to turn the emergency lights on and off.

2002 Tahoe 40000 mi won't go in reverse?
Did you find out what the problem was? Any chance that is was covered under warranty?
The problem is most likely the "sunshell" inside the transmission. This is a common failure in the 4l60 transmission. In order to repair it you will need to find a good transmission repair technician. If you are going to go that far into the transmission, you should consider a complete overhaul. There is an improved sunshell available called "The Beast". It is an aftermarket part which is comparably priced to the OEM part, but it is much stroger than the factory part. It is made of stainless steel as opposed to the factory stamped steel part, and is much thicker and heavier duty than the factory part. I replaced mine last year and have worked my trans. very hard ever since. No problems.
Engine overheats
When a car or truck overheats idling, in town, on the highway, while towing, etc. it is important to find out the reason to prevent engine damage. First, with the engine cold, make sure the radiator is full of coolant; if it is low, fill it and keep the radiator cap off while the engine idles to insure all air is bled out of the system ( air trapped in the system can cause overheating also). Check the coolant level daily; if the coolant goes down without visible leaks, it may be a head gasket starting to leak which will also cause the heater to blow cold air due to the lack of available coolant. If the coolant stays full, but the car continues to overheat, the next step is to replace the thermostat in the engine and flush the cooling system if that has not been done over the last few years.Buy a thermostat at a parts store and a PRESTONE flush kit which has excellent directions on the package. After completing these steps and the vehicle still overheats, have your cooling fan sensor/switch ( if equipped)checked out to insure it is coming on. Water pumps are seldom the cause as they are mechanical and will continue to work until their bearings give out. Finally, the radiator itself is often the problem as it tends to build up corrosion internally which prevents it from transfering engine heat to the coolant. Remove it and have it 're-cored'. One of these steps will solve the problem.
Check your electric fan.
What is wrong when the heat smells like burning rubber?
You could have an electrical problem, perhaps the fan is going bad. I would get it checked out, in some instances, it can cause a fire.
What can cause the service vehicle light condition on a 2000 Monte Carlo?
Mine has been coming on because I have a bad wire somewhere in the car. I also have a 2000 Monte Carlo SS, and I have been trying to find out where to find these wires before I rip my car apart. If you take it to a mechanic they can hook it up to the computer and it will tell you exactly what is wrong, it cost $50, otherwise mine light has also came on when my gas cap is not on tight, if you want to try that. DO NOT PAY TO HAVE THE TROUBLE CODES READ!!!!! ALL AutoZone parts stores will read them and clear them from your car for FREE! . .
How do you replace the heater core on a 1993 Pontiac Grand Am?
If it is anything like a 92 the heater core is inside the firewall under the center of the dash. It requires removing the center console to reach the plenum cover.
Drain the coolant.Be Prepared for a few skinned nuckels. First dissconnect your battery You will be working around wiring harness' so just Tobe on the safe side I would disconnect the battery. The easy part is removing both glove boxes, remove the console remove the covers under the steering wheel remove the cover surrounding the the radio and heater controls, now remove the first plastic cover it will have two ports going into the center console, you might have pull back the carpet on both sides to get it out. After you remove that cover you have to remove the next cover that hides the heater core. When that is removed you should see the heater core there are four bolts two top two bottom holding silver bands remove these and the heater core will be loose. When removing everything make sure you get all the screws I missed two hidden screws and broke the cover. Some are torx some are nut heads. Now that is the easy part the hard part is removing the heater hoses from the back fo the engine. If the You are sure the heater core is shot usually coolant on the carpet is a good indicator just snap the two plastic pipes going to the heater core. This will make it easier to access the hoses. There is no easy way to remove these is is a matter of determination and patience. I would never change a heater core without changing the hosesyou will see that it will be worth new hoses because you will not want to repeat this procedure again.
