How do you use a transit to shoot a grade?
Today someone came to my home because of a drainage problem I have. He said, "shoot it to get a grade". It means use a surveyors transit tool to get an accurate level of the ground so that the water can follow better. Ok, everybody that slept through geometry class. A transit is a very sensitive instrument which can be leveled very accurately and can measure angles very precisely, both horizontally and vertically. The surveyor will mark two points on the ground, in the case of a drainage problem probably near the highest and lowest parts of the property. He will then set his transit up directly over one of the points, and will use the levels in the instrument to make sure that the instrument is precisely level. He will then aim the telescope at the second point on the ground and will use the internal scale to read off the "vertical angle" which is the angle above or below horizontal. In an old-fashioned instrument, he will next use a tape measure to measure the distance between the telescope and the point at which he is aiming. In a modern device, a reflector will be placed at the second point, and the transit will measure the distance using a laser device. The surveyor will also measure the distance the center of the transit is above the first point. Using trigonometry, he can then calculate the exact difference in elevation between the two points, and consequently the likelihood that water will drain from the higher to the lower point. If there are further points to be measured, the transit is rotated from one point to another, recording the exact angle turned in each case. Further trigonometry can then be used to calculate the precise location of the remaining points and their relationship in three dimensional space. If the idea is to lay out a pre-determined grade, trigonometry is used to establish the vertical distance necessary to attain the desired grade at the measured distance, and the correct elevation can be marked on a vertical surface. Everyone should take first year engineering.

Spark plug gap on 1994 Chevy s10 2.2L?
According to the emissions sticker on on my '96 says .060 but if you look in the users manual it says .045 which is correct I don't know. When I took the plugs out of mine they were about .075 so I'm guessing they started out at .060 and burnt to the .075 in the 82,000 miles. So when I replaced mine I set then m at .060

How do you change the rear drum brakes on a 2003 ford ranger?
Start with the right tools. This will make the job much easier to accomplish.First and foremost wear safety glasses always when working on things like this.
The spring release tool and spring strecher and retainer tool usually come as one tool.
Have a can of brake fluid just in case you may need some to refill the master cylinder to full line after you have installed the new shoes.
This is pretty obvious but start by taking off both tires and drums.
Only work on one side at a time so you always have a comparison side to look at.
If you get ahead of yourself and take both sides apart you may regret it later.
Start by removing the round retainers by pushing and twisting about 1/4 turn and release pressure it should come off.You will notice a cutout in the shape of a cross
or sometimes just a slot.take the retainer and spring from both sides along with the pins. The pins come out from the back side so reach your arm around and push from the front to grab them from the back and keep all of these parts in a container
You may want to clean them up and inspect them to see if you need a new kit.
These parts do deteriorate over time.
Next remove the springs with the spring removal tool and the emergency brake cable.
The shoes should drop out.
To reinstall place a shoe in one side at a time and replace the pin from the back
and put the spring and round retainer clip back on pushing and twisting until it holds the shoe in place.
Dont forget to reattach the e-brake cabe.
Once front and back shoes are in place use the spring tool to stretch the springs back into place.
Make sure you wind down the self adjuster so the new pads will fit into the drums.
You mat want to clean this and give it some lube so it can operate freely.
Once the drum is installed along with all the components it should come off and on freely for now.
Get a wide spade screwdriver and remove the small rubber access cover just behind
the star adjuster and start adjusting so it forces the pads apart making the drums
harder to slide off.
This adjuster operates each time the vehicle goes backwards and stops. This is called self adjusting brakes.
Leave this drum off again so you have something to compare to on the other side.
