How do you properly open the interior door panel for a 1988 delta 88 Oldsmobile royale?
Remove the window switch control panel on the arm rest of the door panel. This a tensioned spring held insert assembly. You get it out by carefully inserting a screwdriver or butter knife under the back end (towards the rear wheels end) and pop it upwards. (You can now do window switch repairs without going any further. WD40 is good on corroded contacts too.) Unplug the switch assembly. There may be a door panel/ armrest holding screw or two now exposed for removal. There are two large screws under the ends of the door pull strap. Use a real thin blade to pull off the plastic end covers then remove those screws. You now need a panel removal tool which has a " V " or a dinner serving fork with the center prongs removed to go around under the panel edges. Carefully pry out the plastic retainers that are attached to the panel edges from the holes in the door frame. It is easy to tear the retainers out of the cardboard backside or break the plastic retainers if you just "rip" it off. Repair torn cardboard and retainer with expoxy before replacing the panel. Replacement plastic retainers are generally available at your local hardware store. Unscrew (anti clockwise) the door lock button. The panel must be lifted up as it is hooked to the door at the top edge. The window switch assembly can be unplugged and set aside. Anyone with non electric windows - remove the window roller handle. LOL
Why will my Kia Optima power door lock button lock the doors but not unlock the doors?
Great question--I came here looking for an answer! I have the same problem. The Drive's door will not unlock--not with the power fob, not with the key on the outside, not with the door handle on the inside. I'm surprised someone from Kia has not addressed this.

Answer: Found on "2CarPros" WebsitePosted at Mon Sep 15, 2008 3:06 pmBy EBGB, New to the forumGive Feedback | Votes: 0 "Door Checker" part problemA couple months ago, our 2004 Kia Optima started exhibiting the same symptoms you describe: Door lock mechanism feels jammed, actuators automatically relock, etc.We took the car to the local Kia dealership where we had purchased the car new, and the shop told us that it was a faulty door lock actuator. The mechanic did not open the door, but said that this was a common problem. They estimated $200 plus labor to repair.
This weekend, I decided to open the door and look for myself. What I found is that the actuator was fine.
The fault was with the latch mechanism, called "door checker" in the Kia service manual. Not the lock... the latch; the actual part that latches onto the striker when the door is closed.
To determine the fault, I first removed the door panel. Remove 1 screw in the grab handle pocket, 1 behind the door open lever, and 2 screws at the forward edge, the bottom edge, and the rear edge. Remove the small window-corner speaker if equipped. Then lift off the door panel. Don't lift too far, there are wires to disconnect.
Once the door panel was removed, I removed the exterior door handle. Two bolts on the inside of the door secure it. Use 10mm socket to remove them. Then remove the connecting linkages by flipping the plastic catches on each to the side. This should allow you to pop the linkage from the socket. The heavy linkage is a little harder, as it has a locking groove. You may need a jewelers screwdriver or dental picks to open the plastic socket a little. Be very careful not to get forceful or you risk breaking the plastic catch. The actual lock mechanism turns 1/8 turn and slides out of the handle assembly. Set the handle aside.
Now disconnect the linkage from the actuator, again by flipping the plastic catch to one side and slipping the linkage from the socket.
Finally, disconnect the linkage that goes to the interior lock above the door-open handle.
With these linkages disconnected and the door handle out, remove the plastic cover on the latch mechanism. You should now be able to peer in and work the lock and opening levers independently and find the fault.
On my particular latch, the plastic bits (yes, they used plastic) had worn and become loose. This allowed the rotating part of the latch to rotate too far, which in turn caused a bind when you try to unlock the mechanism. The security system senses that the latch is not properly unlocked, causing the actuator to immediately engage and relock the doors.
If you confirm that this is your problem, then remove the three screws that hold the mechanism in place and replace the mechanism. I obtained mine from a salvage yard for $30.
Total time to diagnose and repair was about 3 hours - but you now will have an advantage in knowing what you're looking for!
Kia Dealer in Pittsburgh wants $42.00 for "Car Checker" part. Give them your model/year and last eight digits of your vin number when you call to order "door checker" part.
What would cause the power doors to stop working on a 2000 Ford Windstar?
Most likely some type of electrical shortage. A wire may have become disconnected. The same thing can happen with interior lights, you'll have to take it in to get looked at.
Why Park Avenue seat won't go up or down?
Check the fuses and relays first. It sounds like a loss of power to the seat motors. If these are good then the switches or motors could be bad.
How do you unlock a door that won't open?
Try taking the door panel off and reaching through the holes to unlock it. It may be hard getting door panel off but it can be done. You may have to get in on opposite side if the door is in the way taking panel offi have had to remove the seat on some models.
How do you open or fix a car door that won't open from inside?
That's a good question! I'm thinking take it to the repair shop unless you want to entertain chopping up your interior to get to the doors internals.
How do you unlock a 1995 Chevy Monte Carlo without a key?

The 1998 Volvo S70 hood release is located on the left of steering wheel down under console. You will find a lever and will need to pull towards you. When you pull the hood up, the latch is located in the center.
The block of wood wedged underneath the hood after having pulled the initial release lever worked for me to release the stuck driver side latch. Giving it a "love tap" did not. However, I read somewhere, a couple of years ago about adding more rubber, or anything, to increase the size of the rubber bumper stops to the right and left of the metal hood catches. I did that to the passenger side several years ago. And a few minutes ago, I added some adhesive velcro strips. Now the hood releases properly.

How do you Slim Jim a 97 Nissan Pathfinder?
Can't be done. You must call a locksmith who will go in the rear passenger side window using a plastic shim and several of his "smithing tools'. I have had to use this process several times and both times the locksmith, (AAA), told me even he could not open it with a slim-jim.
Hope this helps.

How do you open the hood of a Chevy Venture that has a broken release cable?
Just finished opening a 97 Venture with hood release cable not attached. You need a flat 13mm ratchet, not offset not long, the gear wrench i used was 7".You have 4 bolts, some are easy some are not, come at the bolt from different angles. Once you get 3(I did lf-lr then rf rr) gently pry up the hood with a flat bar and your there. About 1 hour
You should be able to find a shop manual at your local library with the right info...make copies as they are usually only in the REFERENCE section....good luck:)

How do you unlock the doors of a dodge ram with a slim Jim?
it takes about 2hrs, put slim Jim into door between glass and molding, keep poking around, call the police, then you all stand around looking at the door lock, poking around with the slim Jim, put a few scratches on both the doors, cursing may or maynot help....and eventually, the lockpop fairies work their magic, and poof, the door is unlocked......that's how i did it anyway
I just unlocked my 99 dodge truck with a wedge, W40 and a fishing pole. Take a wedge put in through the door and frame (weather stripping) at the top left or right corner depending on which door your opening. The back or Bed side of the door. The wedge will create a small gap which you will be able to insert a rod or some other long object. I used an old fishing pole with eyes removed. Slide the rod in toward the locking switch and push. Door should unlock and takes all of 2 minutes. W40 is just to lubricate the weather stripping however I had enough room without using it. Hope this helps. It should work on most model dodges and I assume other vehicles of similar configuration. Hope this helps
I would jimmy open one of the doors and preceed from there to do the repairs..making sure to fix the problem with the door handles first.
Rather than damage a door and/ or linkage, I would try to trip the LOCK / UNLOCK button to unlock all 4 doors. Could be tricky with hangers etc., but doable. Once doors are unlocked, go into rear of car and climb over front seat. You can then open the front door from the INSIDE handle. Most likely the linkage became disconnected on both. I know it works. Had to do it when I was a Cadillac tech.
