How hard is it to replace the water pump on a 95 Olds Achieva Quad 4?
Super hard!
To start with, you must remove the intake manifold and everything that's attached to it to get to the upper pump bolt. It's no picnic, but can be done by the slightly above average DIY'er. Just plan on it taking the whole day and start early.
========== 1. You will need helper :) because should have access from the top and also from the bottom many, many times... 2. Move motor down before start this procedure. I myself, 8/29/09
Where is the water pump located at on a 1996 Chrysler LHS?
It is inside the front of the engine, driven by the timing belt.
How much does it cost to replace a '97 Dodge Stratus water pump?
I just had my water pump replaced by a shop and it cost about 800 buck-a-roos. Of course it was done same day! I have done the same job myself and it ran about $250 and took about 2 days. Both scenarios include replacing all belts including timing belt.
How do you know when your water pump is breaking down?
often there is a leak on the input shaft when the bearing begins to wear out. You may sometimes here a rattling sound as well if you listen closely.
Where is the O2 sensor located on a 2000 Mazda Millenia?
The Millenias and their Commonwealth cousins the "Xedos" all suffered a common defect resulting in MOST CEL issues. This engine configuration typically results in the need for replacement of 1 to 2 O2 sensors and / or the DREADED KNOCK Sensor embedded deep in the Manifold assembly. Mine ran 3 years with this CEL on due to the cost of labour one item to replace. The sensor was only 165 bucks while the labour to install was nearly 800.
I will admit once it was replaced I was not only legal again for the Emmissions test, but the thing ran smoother than it ever did ina ll seasons PLUS I got nearly 2 points to my highway Mileage.
Now the codes are confusing on this because two of the O2 sensors share the same circuit and the code wont necessarily identify WHICH o2 is actually bad, that unfortunately is hit or miss. The KNOCK sensor code is separate and distinct however but all will result in a costly set of repairs.
So to answer your question a different way, there are 4 O2 sensors all over the compartment PLUS the knock sensor in the Manifold.
Only One of the O2 sensors is even visible much less service-able by the average DIY person.
Good Luck, Been there (3 times now)Done that.
Pay somebody, you will live longer.

Try Chilton's or All Data for instructions. This is a 4.5 -5 hour ordeal for a professional and a 2 day mess for an amateur. Plus you must remove the timing belt on the 2.4 4 Cylinder to get to the pump. Mess up here and you can damage your engine. Good Luck!
# Disconnect the negative battery cable. This procedure requires removing the engine timing belt and the auto tensioner. The factory specifies that the timing marks should always be aligned before removing the timing belt. Set the engine at TDC on No. 1 compression stroke. This should align all timing marks on the crankshaft sprocket and both camshaft sprockets. # Raise and safely support the vehicle to a level that allows access from above and below. # Remove the right inner splash shield. # Remove the accessory drive belts. # Place a drain pan under the radiator drain plug. Drain and properly contain the cooling system. # Support the engine using a floor jack and block of wood, then remove the right motor mount. # Remove the timing belt, tensioner and camshaft sprockets. WARNING With the timing belt removed, DO NOT rotate the camshaft or crankshaft, or damage to the engine could occur. # Remove the rear timing belt cover to access the water pump. # Remove the water pump attaching bolts. # Remove the water pump.

To install: # Thoroughly clean all sealing surfaces. Replace the water pump if there are any cracks, signs of coolant leakage from the shaft seal, loose or rough turning bearings, a damaged impeller or sprocket, or a loose or damaged sprocket flange. # Install a new rubber O-ring into the water pump. Make sure the O-ring is properly seated in the water pump groove before tightening the screws. An improperly located O-ring may cause damage to the O-ring and cause a coolant leak. # Install the water pump and tighten the bolts to 105 inch lbs. (12 Nm). # Using a cooling system pressure tester, pressurize the cooling system to 15 psi and check for leaks. If okay, release the pressure and continue the engine assembly process. # Rotate the water pump by hand to check for freedom of movement. # Install the rear timing belt cover. # Install the camshaft sprocket(s), timing belt and tensioner. DO NOT allow the camshafts to turn while the sprocket bolts are being tightened, in order to maintain timing mark alignment. WARNING Do not attempt to compress the tensioner plunger with the tensioner assembly installed in the engine. This will cause damage to the tensioner and other related components. The tensioner MUST be compressed in a vise. # Install the timing belt covers. # Install the right engine mount bracket and engine mount. # Remove the floor jack and wood block from underneath the engine. # Install the crankshaft damper. # Install the right inner splash shield. # Lower the vehicle. # Install and tension the accessory drive belts. # Refill the cooling system using the correct quantity and type of coolant. Bleed the cooling system. # Start the engine and check for proper operation. # Check and top off the cooling system, if necessary. 2.5L Engine See Figures 3 through 7 # Disconnect the negative battery cable. # Place a large drain pan under the radiator drain plug. Drain and properly contain the engine coolant. This procedure requires removing the engine timing belt and the auto tensioner. To help assure proper alignment at assembly, it may be helpful to set the engine at TDC on No. 1 compression stroke. This should align all timing marks on the crankshaft sprocket and both camshaft sprockets. # Remove the accessory drive belts and crankshaft damper. # Remove the right engine mount. This requires safely supporting the engine with a floor jack and wood block so the mount can be removed. # Remove the timing belt covers. # Remove the timing belt and tensioner.

# Remove the water pump mounting bolts. # Separate the water pump from the water inlet pipe and remove the pump. To install: # Thoroughly clean all sealing surfaces. Inspect the pump for damage or cracks, signs of coolant leakage at the vent, and excessive looseness or rough turning bearings. Any problems require a new pump. # Install a new O-ring on the water inlet pipe. Wet the O-ring with water to make installation easier. DO NOT use oil or grease on the O-ring. # Install a new gasket on the water pump and fit the pump inlet opening over the water pipe. Press the assembly together to force the pipe into the water pump. # Install the water pump-to-engine bolts and tighten to 20 ft. lbs. (27 Nm). # Install the timing belt and timing belt tensioner. Set the timing belt tension. # Install the timing belt covers. Install the right engine mount. Remove the floor jack and engine block from underneath the engine. # Install the crankshaft damper. # Install the accessory drive belts and set to the proper tension. # Connect the negative battery cable. # Fill and bleed the engine cooling system. # Start the engine and verify proper operation, with no leaks.

Why is my 95 Ford Probe overheating?
The simple answer is: failure of the cooling system or one of its parts.
Start by checking to see if you have enough coolant in the system. If it is leaking out, fix the leak. Check the water pump- it should have a "weep hole" next to the shaft. If there is coolant coming from the weep hole, the pump needs to be replaced. If the coolant is going somewhere other than on the ground, look for white smoke at the exhaust pipe- that's a sign of coolant getting into the cylinders, meaning cracked block, blown head gasket, or some other engine failure.
Check your fans. They should turn on if you lift the connector from the temperature sensor. No fans means no cooling at low speeds.
Start it up cold and check the hoses on the radiator. They should get warm after a few minutes, indicating that your thermostat is opening up and the water pump is working. If they stay cold, replace the thermostat (it's cheap), and try again.
If everything is working, have the radiator and cooling system flushed and pressure tested.
You have to take the rad right out and you'll have a lot more room.
How do you replace the water pump on a 1999 Oldsmobile Bravada?
I've added a link to the right called "96+ Water Pump Replacement Procedure." It's a link to the replacement procedure with pictures. 1)Drain the coolant: 2)Remove the shroud: 7-10 mm bolts 3)Remove the fan and clutch: There is no need to separate the fan from the clutch. The whole thing threads on to the end of the water pump. I don't know the size, because rather than break out all my wrenches, I just grabbed an 18 inch crescent wrench. Place the wrench on the nut and tap loose with a hammer. the tapping will break it loose. You have to tap it, if you just try to loosen it, the belt won't hold it and the whole thing will turn. After it breaks loose just spin it off. 4)Break loose the bolts holding the pulley on: 4- 13 mm or 1/2" bolts Just break them loose, don't remove them 5) Remove the serpentine belt 6) Remove the pulley: Finish removing the bolts holding the pulley and remove the pulley 7) Disconnect the hoses 8) Remove the old pump: 4-14 mm or 9/16" bolts 9) Clean the surface: Remove all traces of the old gasket. 10) Install new pump: Apply a bead of blue Permatex around the holes on both sides of the gaskets, put them on the pump and insert the bolts through the holes to hold the gaskets in place. Carefully lower the pump in to position. Thread the bolts into the block and snug them. Then remove the bolts one at a time, add the permatex to the threads, and then reinsert. (only do one at a time so that the pump doesn't shift and disturb the mating surfaces) Then tighten all the bolts. 11) Reinstall everything in reverse. There will be a lot of air trapped in the system, so after you fill it, get the engine to operating temperature, shut it off, let it cool, then add more. The air trapped in the system can cause your engine to over heat if left unattended. I suggest filling the system with water only and run it like that for a day or two just to make sure there are no leaks. That way you don't waste your antifreeze if you have to do further repairs.

What causes a motor to run hot after a new water pump and thermostat has been added?
It could be the radiator or a bad head gasket. I am an ASE certified mechanic and have over 30 years experience in this field. Ive changed more water pumps and thermostats in a year than most people have changed in their entire lifetime It could be several things. First why were the thermostat and water pump changed, were they defective or was it done on advise of others etc. Heres my point - before a part is changed or replaced it should be diagnosed properly first. Other wise the problem will not be corrected without unnecessary time and expense. If the pump was defective , it is normal good practice to change the thermostat too. Also consider this - I have seen people put the thermostat in backwards which will cause over heating , did a professional or "backyard expert" do the work? Here's an easy way to check if its in backwards- Let the car assume room temperature- pop the hood open and put your hand on the upper radiator hose before starting the engine , the hose should be cold. Start the engine and let it idle - the temp gage should show that its cold , after warmming up for a few minutes check the temp gage - whne it reaches normal or about 190 degrees -CAREFULLY put your hand on the upper radiator hose, once the thermostat opens the hose should feel hot from the engine end of the hose to the radiator end of the hose, - while you are feeling the hose be careful not to get near any moving parts , belts fan blades etc around the engine . ANother quick check is if the heater blows hot air the thermostat should be open If you dont feel the heat up the entire length of the hose the thermostat is most likely not opening or may be in backwards- If the thermostat is in backwards the engine will overheat, or if its not opening it will also overheat. I have found in a few instances especially with some rebuilt water pumps that the rebuilder did not change the impeller , and with a worn impeller the pump could not move enough volume of water to keep the engine cool. - I am assuming that the following steps have been done prior to replacement of the pump 1 fluid level and type in the radiator were checked and are at the right levels 2 All belts are adjusted properly , hoses are good (not blocked or collapsed) and properly clamped 3 The coolant system does not have air pockets(may need to be bled out) 4 There are no other mechanical problems ( ie ignition timing is correct, car is not being overloaded , transmission is not slipping, head gasket is not blown and the radiator is not plugged , does not have air flow thru it blocked , and very important the cooling fan is working properly Usually the problem is quite simple The last 4 items I mentioned are usually the most common causes of engine overheating. Again the most important question should be this - If the engine overheated before changing the pump and thermostat why were they changed (did the pump leak etc ) and why is the car still overheating afterwards (perhaps a changed part is bad - even though its "new" it can still be defective. Once you have the answers you can move on from that point . My guess is that the pump and thermostat were not the real cause of your overheating Hope this helps
How do you replace the water pump on a 1998 Oldsmobile Intrigue?
It is very easy! Take off belt by putting a wrench or socket on tensioner pully and rotating it. belt will come right off. You will have to drain coolant. then take out all of the bolts holding the water pump on. you will have to remove the power sterring pump to get to the very back bolt. Make sure you clean old gasket off of the motor and install new gasket with sealer. reassemble in reverse order.
On '98s at least there is an access hole in the p/s pulley that gives you access to that last bolt
I found no access hole except through the power steering which was easier to remove than the PS pully that a pully remover does not have sufficient room. Two bolts top and bottom through the access holes for the PS pump and it is out of the way of the last water pump bolt.

Where is the water pump located on a 1987 Nissan Maxima automatic?
The water pump is located in between the timing belt, behind the timing belt cover, very close to the thermostat, just follow the large hose from the radiator to the thermostat on the left side of the motor facing it, good luck.
How do you replace a water pump on a 1996 Chevy silverado?
remove the upper half of the fan shroud and buy a fan clutch remover tool Unscrew the fan clutch then remove the serp belt and open the radiator cap only when the engine is cool Drain the coolant and remove the lower hose from the pump Unbolt the pump, its held on by four bolts scrape off any remaining gasket and use silicone glue on the bolts that go into the water jacket when reinstalling
ok here is a good one, only 2 likely things. first make sure the rad is full, then make sure the overflow jug is full to the line marked on jug. Then start up and turn on the heat selector to HOT inside the truck (reason) because the heater core is higher than most of the engine there for when drained it creates an (air) poket. This air poket will not let the coolant to flow properly. anyways let it warm up till you feel the heat inside the truck. then turn off the truck and wait for 30 minutes for it to cool. recheck the coolant levels. Incase that doesnt work .... replace the rad cap. go to autozone and ask for your specific vehicle the correct cap they will look it up. If the cap is bad it will build up excess pressure and not let the system work.
Using rocks in your amaryllis is new to you how much and when do you water?
According to everything I've read on the subject water only enough to cover the bulb's roots... NOT the bulb or it will rot. As you're likely forcing this plant in the winter you'll want to check it frequently as your home is probably dryer than you think. You do not want the roots to dry out. Keep it in a sunny location.
How do you replace the water pump on a 1996 Chevy Corsica 6 cylinder?
I just replaced my water pump on my 1994 Corsica. Not sure if it is the same as a 1996, but maybe this will help. Standing at the front of your car with the hood up, to the left is the serpentine belt. The "pulley" at the very top (the belt runs under it) was my water pump. It had 4 screws on the face of it. I used a screwdriver to keep the "pulley" from turning while i loosened and took off the screws. I then pulled the facing off and I think there were 5 screws holding the pump in. I took those out, and the pump came right out. Remember to clean the old gasket off before replacing new gasket and pump. I hope that helps.

How do you replace the water pump on a 1990 Subaru Legacy?
did this just last month. CHECK the build date of the car (on tag that resides on the pillar between the doors, there are 3 possible water pumps, you gotta get this one right), get, or make sure you have the right pump. Remove rad fan(s), trying not to break the mounting bolts, take out the radiator and the accessory belts, remove the crank pulley (on installation this must be torqued to 80ft/lbs, or it will loosen) remove the timing belt cover(s), and the timing belt so you are just staring at the front of the engine. The pump is at the bottom right of all this mess if you are standing at the front bumper looking in. Remove all the hoses attached to the water pump, carefully inspecting them, you want to replace them (if needed) NOW, they are a witch later. Remove the water pump bolts noting their location, there are 3 different lengths, replace it being careful, the block will strip BEFORE you break a bolt, you don't want to go there. Put everything back together, replace the timing belt, being careful to get the timing right. The belt adjuster should be SLOWLY compressed in a hydraulic press, too fast and you will be buying a new one (I have used a hydraulic floor jack and a parked truck to do this if no press is available) use a finishing nail, or small Allen key to hold the adjuster in a compressed position (through the holes). Mount the adjuster, double check the timing belt position before and after releasing the adjuster, sometimes this takes a couple of tries, don't be ashamed, it is a bi*ch. Carry on replacing all you took off. Sometimes refilling the cooling system can be a problem, it seems that some cars tend to air lock, I filled mine slowly and ran it with the cap off until the thermostat opened, topping it up afterward. Go for a drive checking the coolant level frequently for about the next week. This "fun" little job is probably best done on a set of ramps.
How do you get the fan assembly off to replace a water pump on a 1998 Chevy truck?
Remove the 4 nuts that are against the pulley behind the fan with the belt still on the truck. Once these nuts are removed, the fan will separate from the pulley. Now you can remove the belt & water pump pulley.
