the water pump is under the timing cover, if you replace the water pump, it is also a good time to change out the timing belt... Honda recomends changing water pumps when you change the timing belt...

If your cars cooling system uses a expansion tank you have a problem on your hands, coolant should be flowing through the expansion tank on a regular basis(when the thermostat opens or closes). if you have a overflow tank, coolant flows in or out as needed by the systems heating and cooling cycles. If the radiator is low top it off then fill the resivor to the minimum cold level(shown on side of tank). But if your coolant levels are low you should ask yourself where is it going? if you cant find a external leak (around waterpump,bottem of radiator or hoses), then you might have an internal leak.

Usual failures are coolant leaks, or a loose bearing.

--- Well, I'm no pro so it took me longer than 6 hours. A couple good things to note though. You will need to make a special tool out of some angle iron in order to hold the harmonic balancer in place while removing the main crankshaft bolt. The balancer is cast so don't pry against the center ridge; it will break.

The water pump lives behind the timing covers (3 parts if I remember). I heavily recommend replacing the timing belt since it has to come off anyway. While removing the belt and the water pump, try not to accidentally bump the cam shafts. With the preasure from the valve springs, they are spring loaded to turn to one side or the other. Once the camshafts have been moved, it is possible to set them back to center but not very easy.

When replacing the timing belt, as always, it has to sit perfect on the teeth of all three gears(2 cams & 1 crank).

One problem I had after the repair was complete was it kept throwing serpentine belts. I found the power steering pump was mounted and tigntened to the block before the bracket. The bracket bolts should be tightened first then the block bolts.

i have a 95 240sx and mine was located under the front passenger wheel mudflap.... the mudflap in front of the wheel... you should be able to see it easily because its right there.... its pretty easy to replace from there.. just diconnect the wire and the tube and resplice the wire with the new one and connect it..

If by "internal" you mean inside the cab, the heater core would most likely be the culprit and needs to be replaced. If you mean within the engine, then you have a bigger problem as it could be a blown head gasket, or a cracked cylinder head in which case the cylinder head will have to be removed for repairs.

This is a very involved procedure, that is too complex to post here. Go to any auto parts store and purchase a repair manual for you ride. There you will find detailed instructions. Cost around $12 Only you know your skill level. If after seeing how it is done, decide if you want to tackle it.

If the engine is overheating and you have checked all other causes of overheating. Start the engine cold and immediately remove the radiator cap. Look to see if you have flow. If not, the pump is more than likely bad. If the pump is leaking, making any noises, or the shaft can be moved from side to side, the pump is bad.

I just changed my daughter's Explorer water pump and fan clutch. What a pain - mid summer - over 100 degrees. Here are the steps / lessons learned; 1) Park the vehicle in a flat area, near water source, and in the shade. 2) Obtain the pump - it cost me approx $66 via O'Reily Auto Parts Store, gloves, rags, coolant - $10, metal sharp putty knife, and gasket $4. 3) Also rent or borrow a fan clutch / pully remover - A MUST! 4) Obtain a socket set (metric and SAE), open end wrenches, rags, oil pan to catch water, and a plastic bowl to store bolts and nuts. 5) Remove the water hoses - top and bottom - will get very messy - use the oil pan to catch most of the water, 6) Using the fan clutch tool remove the fan clush and fan away from the pully - turn very large nut in front of pully. 7) once fan is removed - remove the fan shroud with a nbr 10 metric size tool. 8) pull all three out at same time - upwards. 9) remove surpintene belt with large socket and use gloves - you will pinch yourself without 10) remove pully - 4 bolts and store in safe location 11) pump has 10-12 botls - some hard to see. Use the new pump to account for every bolt. 11) once all bolts are removed pull pump and return to store for core refund 12) with a metal puddy knife remove all old gasket from engine - use rag to clean 13) spray all bolts with WD40 to lubricate and lossen crus from parts 14) install new pump - finger tighten all bolts first and then gently tighten in a cross configuration method 15) replace all parts in reverse order.

It is located in front of engine you must remove timing cover and timing belt. So if your going to do this replace timing belt to if you have not done so.

With my snap on tools......... remove the bolts holding the water pump on and the old water pump will fall off.

If you have to ask how to remove a water pump from this vehicle, you will be better off having replaved by a professional mechanic as this job is soooooo easy.

On most cars a gasket is required along with the RTV sealant. A new gasket should have come with the water pump. Ask the parts house where you purchased the part.

Water pump is run by the timing belt. So, you have to do everything required to replace the timing belt plus a few more capscrews that hold the pump in. These should be done at the same time, 10 years or 100,000 miles, which ever comes first.

Outlet rating should be suitable to the rating of the motor. The type should be preferably IP 55 or higher if mounted outside the sump in dry area.
