It is recommennded that you install a new timing belt when you replace the water pump.

How do you install a water pump for a 1988 F-150?

ok..first you remove the fan shroud if its on there. drain your coolant from your radiator.then remove radiator.once that's done remove the fan blades...usually 4 bolts..once the blades are removed, remove pulley ,remove all hoses from water pump(that's what the fan blades are bolted to).then you remove the 4 bolts holding the pump. the pump will come off. make sure you clean off all of the old gasket on engine block......apply a thin layer of hi temp silicon on the new gasket, bolt on the new water pump snug the bolts tight.attach your hoses to water pump, replace the pulley then attach the fan blades....reinstall radiator and attach radiator hoses....fill up radiator with coolant.....start up engine...add coolant...it will drop.....once you fill it with coolant and it stops purging, your radiator will be full....check for leakes..if you don't have leaks....reinstall fan shroud and you are done!!!

How do you replace the water pump on a 99 blazer 4.3 does the intake manifold have to be removed?

Nothing major like the the intake has to be removed. Below are the basic steps to change it out. I'll also add a link to the right that will take you to a walkthrough with pictures. 1)Drain the coolant: 2)Remove the shroud: 7-10 mm bolts 3)Remove the fan and clutch: There is no need to separate the fan from the clutch. The whole thing threads on to the end of the water pump. I don't know the size, because rather than break out all my wrenches, I just grabbed an 18 inch crescent wrench. Place the wrench on the nut and tap loose with a hammer. the tapping will break it loose. You have to tap it, if you just try to loosen it, the belt won't hold it and the whole thing will turn. After it breaks loose just spin it off. 4)Break loose the bolts holding the pulley on: 4- 13 mm or 1/2" bolts Just break them loose, don't remove them 5) Remove the serpentine belt 6) Remove the pulley: Finish removing the bolts holding the pulley and remove the pulley 7) Disconnect the hoses 8) Remove the old pump: 4-14 mm or 9/16" bolts 9) Clean the surface: Remove all traces of the old gasket. 10) Install new pump: Apply a bead of blue Permatex around the holes on both sides of the gaskets, put them on the pump and insert the bolts through the holes to hold the gaskets in place. Carefully lower the pump in to position. Thread the bolts into the block and snug them. Then remove the bolts one at a time, add the permatex to the threads, and then reinsert. (only do one at a time so that the pump doesn't shift and disturb the mating surfaces) Then tighten all the bolts. 11) Reinstall everything in reverse. There will be a lot of air trapped in the system, so after you fill it, get the engine to operating temperature, shut it off, let it cool, then add more. The air trapped in the system can cause your engine to over heat if left unattended. I suggest filling the system with water only and run it like that for a day or two just to make sure there are no leaks. That way you don't waste your antifreeze if you have to do further repairs. See the Related Link for "Water Pump Replacement Walkthrough With Pictures" to the bottom for the answer.

Do you have to remove the radiator to change water pump on 97 grand Cherokee limited v8?

No but it will give you alot more room to work and radiator fins are very delicate. If you insist on keeping the radiator in place cut out some thick cardboard and place it over the fins. I would most definitely remove it. I have replace the water pump, radiator, and thermostat in my 98 limited 5.9L

Where is coolant level sensor on 1998 Pontiac grand prix?

1" Square device with electric plug attached left side of radiator. Replacement is about $50.00

How do you replace water pump in an Ford Falcon 1996?

pretty straight forward remove the thermo fan unit by undoing the two bolts at the top onto the radiator and the two wiring plugs on the passenger side and lift it out. "when removing serpentine belt i always draw a map so i know how to put it back on" use a 3/8" drive ratchet in the hole on the belt tentioner to release it and remove belt. undo the radiator hose from the water pump by undoing clamp. from there you need to remove the four 10mm bolts that hold the water pump on these can all be accessed without removing other front end components you will just need a medium sized extension on a 1/4" drive ratchet, once undone you will need to pull the pump forward releasing the water pipe from the rear of the pump, once removed make sure to clean the mounting surface of old gasket and anything else that may cause the new gasket not to seal, and make sure there is no o'ring on the water pipe to go into back of new pump.

reinstalling the pump is also just as simple take the new o'ring supplied with pump and place it in rear water inlet being sure to remove old o'ring if it has stayed in there, then using a gasket cement i use a non hardening aviation cement paint the gasket both sides place on the new pump " will only fit one way so check all four holes are aligned then place one bolt through a top hole and a bottom hole keeping both the gasket and backing plate in place put the pump in position by firstly fitting the water pipe into the back of it then doing up all four bolts until tight, refit the hose and do up clamp refit belt using diagram you have drawn leaving the crank pulley to last is usually the easiest way then using 3/8" drive ratchet on tentioner again to loosen belt over pulley. if you don't draw a picture of this it will be hard to refit belt but doable basic rule if pulley smooth the back of belt runs on it if ribbed the ribbed part of belt runs on it". place the thermo fan unit back in making sure the bottom pushes into clips to hold it do up the two top bolts refit the two wiring connectors and fill header tank with coolant .

Most stats are located in the thermostat housing at the bottom of the upper radiator hose.

Where is the water pump in 95 Chrysler LHS?

How do you replace the water pump on a 1995 Jeep Wrangler 4 cylinder manual transmission?

The water pump is behind the cover that the serpentine belt runs under(?) to make with the spinning of the fan. Remove the plastic fan cover, remove the fan blade, the cover slips right off and the water pump is right there.

I seem to remember having to remove the power steering pump and loosening the alternator to get the belt off.

Also most likely a new water pump will not come with the studs to mount the fan. If it is anything like mine, the studs will not come off the old one easily, if at all. Your best bet will be to pick up a new set of studs at the same time, if for no other reason then to save a trip to the store when you have half your engine lying around outside the vehicle.

GENERAL IDEAYou should ask your local mechanic exactly how to do it. When the water pump failed on my 1995 Jeep YJ 4.0 Liter, my mechanic told me that the water pump was almost always behind the radiator, or near it.

I dont think you have to take the radiator out, but the water pump should be visible directly behind it.

This is not a direct awnser, so I hope someone else can clarify this for you.

BETTER IDEA

Get the Chilton's or Haynes manual for your year range, usually somewhere near $25 and follow the instructions. If you're going to risk messing the whole works up, at least know the proper step by step way to do it. It's a great investment for the next time when something else goes wrong. True story, changing a water pump on a road trip and one of the bolts was badly rusted and sheared off. Two days later and hotel and repair shop and we were on our way, $500 or so poorer for a water pump that cost $40. If I had looked at the manual I would have known not to try that oddly positioned bolt on the bottom and gone straight to a shop, possibly saving all the hassles of destroying it myself first.

Seeing though that this time I've got a bad pump on my 93 Wrangler, I'm going to look at the manual when I get home and see how easy or difficult a job I'm looking at. $40 pump, $12 radiator hose (bottom), $20 - $35 serpentine belt (the old one looks rough) do it myself, or save myself the hassle and take it to my trusted jeep mechanic and throw down $200 or so. I might just save myself the hassle as I can drive it there now.

We'll know tomorrow with the hose replacement. If the leak stops it wasn't a bad pump after all, was it?

You have a leak in your 1994 Ford Explorer you have filled up your raditator and the coolant you see that it's from the side of the engine is that the water pump?

IF IT IS YOUR WATER PUMP LEAKING THERE IS A TELL TAIL HOLE RIGHT ON THE PUMP THAT DRIPS IF THE PUMP SEAL IS FAILING. IF THE WATER IS LEAKING FROM ABOVE THE PUMP IT IS LIKELY THE INTAKE MANIFOLD GASKET. THIS IS QUITE COMMON ON 4 LITRE ENGINES.IF THE LEAK IS NOT TO BAD I WOULD LEAVE IT,I RAN MY LIKE THAT FOR OVER 150,000 KMS. THE BILL TO REPAIR WOULD BE 500.00 DOLLARS EASY.

Where is the water pump located on a Acura Legend?

Answer

It is located behide the front cover. The timing belt drives it. I wouldn't recomend changing it yourself if that's why your asking.

D430kep your a friggin idiot. The water pump is located lower passenger's side front of engine if you are facing it. Water pump is not controlled by timing belt. It is ran by a "Drive Belt". Your thermostat is also located in this water pump assembly.

Guys. Come on.

I just changed the thermostat and it's located in the front just below the throttle wires. And I believe the pump, if I saw it correctly, it like D430kep said.

How do you change the water pump on a 1992 ford aerostar?

Its a ROYAL PAIN. Been working on this for three days. First you have to remove the Air filter box and hoses. then remove the top hose on the left side of the radiator. Also remove the tensioner on the right hand side of the water pump. remove the fan clutch assembly( threaded counter clockwise ) and the fan shroud and left these up and out of your way. shroud is held in by two screws on the top and two tabs on the bottom. after you get all this extra stuff out of your way, then you can easily reach the water pump and pull all the bolts ( two different sizes) and with a firm pull the pump will come loose. then unscrew the hose clamp and release the hose from the top of the water pump. now scrape off any remaining gasket where the old pump was attached to the engine. place the old water pump on a surface and lossen the four bolts holding the pulleys onto it. you may have to stuff a screwdriver or someting into the fins of the old pump to keep it from spinning while you do this. then put the pulley on the new pump and reverse the order to reassemble. ive gotten this far but cant seem to get my serpentine belt back on... if anyone knows how to do that i would apppreciate help on that

Where is the water pump located on a 1994 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme?

Open the hood. Facing the engine from the front of the card, look on the left side of the card...near the cooling system overflow bottle. To the right of the area is the drive belt. In the lower area you will see the two hoses for the cooling system fluids that connect to the water pump. The drive belt goes over a pulley that drives the water pump.

How do you replace the water pump on a 2007 Dodge Caravan?

Should be easy .....but it is not.

Drain Antifreeze. Jack vehicle up on pass side front. Remove passenger side front wheel. Remove plastic splash guard that covers front of motor by pulling out 4 plastic fasteners.

Remove serpentine belt. Pull down on tension-er from underneath vehicle using a 1/2 inch - 2ft long breaker bar. The 1/2 inch head will fit right into slot on tension-er. ( A small pipe wrench will fit nicely on the top of the tension-er if you don't have clearance to get breaker bar into slot.)

Remove 3 bolts on pulley. 14 mm socket. The pulley will not come off the vehicle because the frame is too close.

Remove 5 bolts on water pump - 10 mm socket / wrench

You will need to move the Pulley around the water pump to reach all of the bolts.

Position the pulley behind the flange on the water pump so it is as compact as possible before removal.

You will notice that the water pump will not come out of the cavity in the motor completely because the frame is in the way. You will need to get about an additional 1/2 inch of space between the motor and the frame to remove the impeller on the water pump from the cavity.

To create space you will need a strong friend to position a 2 ft pry bar on the frame above the water pump and leverage it against the crankshaft bolt at the bottom end of the motor. Put a piece of wood in front of the crankshaft bolt so the pry bar pushes against the wood. As your friend applies pressure on the pry bar to move the motor over the 1/2 inch you need, you can pull the water pump / pulley combo out of the cavity and remove.

Clean the area where the old gasket was and prep the new water pump. Apply a small amount of silicone to the groove that holds the gasket so the gasket will not slip out while you are putting it back into the motor. Slip the pulley over the flange on the new water pump and make it as compact as possible.( You will need to replace the the pulley and the pump at the same time.)

Have your strong friend use the pry bar again to create the clearance you will need to put the water pump back into the cavity.

Make sure gasket is still in place properly in groove.

Replace water pump bolts while moving the pulley around the bolts to get at them.( fun)

Replace the 3 bolts on the pulley.

Position serpentine belt and pull down on tension-er to get belt in proper place.

Replace plastic splash shield. Refill Antifreeze. Replace front wheel. Lower vehicle.

Run motor until hot and check for leaks.

Takes about 1 1/2 hours.
