If it shakes and shimmys when you apply the brakes, it could be your rotors being warped. Your rotors can be warped by air wrenches tightening you lug nuts. Which could happen when getting new tires or getting brakes done. Ask mechanics to hand tighten with lug wrench next time--no air wrench. Or it could be a bad set of tires or tire with some sort of imperfection or bubble in it--that you wouln't see but only feel when driving. Or it could be the CV Joint and Axle.
Why car engine loud shaking engine light?
if the engine light is blinking a misfire condition has been detected. check plugs and wires.l
Why would a jeep's front end shake after hitting a bump?
I was also a victim of death wobble and am still replacing parts worn out by the wobble. I started out replacing the stabilizer shock but the problem was still there, just not as bad. Then I replaced all of the bushing on the entire jeep with polyurethane bushings and the death wobble dissappeared immediately. Last problem with the jeep now is it feels loose and the steering wheel vibrates around 70 so I'm trying to figure out if its either the hub assembly or the ball joints. Good luck with yours.
Death Wobble Solution!
Sure replacing the bushings, steering stabilizer and improving the suspension will help. . .but that is not where the problem lies. Take a look at the power steering motor itself, you'll notice that the BEARING in the steering shaft that connects to the pitman arm wobbles due to the constant force from turning left and right left and right all the time...this is due to the wear and tear of the steering motor. Jack up the cart get underneath and as someone turns the wheels left and right watch the shaft wobble. THIS IS YOUR PROBLEM! You must replace the steering motor!
Death Wobble Is no fun and not easy to diagnose or fix.
Unfortunately, there are thousands of questions and discussions surrounding death wobble and every one person thinks they have the solution. Even bigger problem: They Do! Death wobble is not caused by one single component in your front end. If you want to sum up the one cause of death wobble it is excessive play. I experienced death wobble for the first time at about 22,000 miles. In the above solution a reference was made to the steering "motor" and I am assuming what is meant by this is the steering gearbox. This is one of the things that can lead to death wobble but it is not the sole answer, nor is it always the root cause. My steering gearbox was, and is, fine. Death wobble doesn't happen as the result of one failing component if your jeep is stock, but one failing component leads to excessive play and the wearing out of others that will allow death wobble to occur. You must take into account how you use your jeep. If you are an off-roader or just a daily driver makes a difference. If your jeep is lifted i cannot offer you any solution because my jeep is not lifted and the lift makes a huge difference. Check all of your bushings, visually inspect your track bar, check your ball joints, check your wheel bearings, check your tie rod ends, make sure your drag link is not bent, even if you have found a solution you should still check everything because chances are other things are worn out as a result of death wobble and if you leave excessive play in any of these front end components death wobble will come back. Also check to make sure every bolt and nut in your suspension and steering components are torqued to specs.
Does sugar really seize an car engine?
It seems that sugar in a gas tank has no effect whatsoever on a car engine. This myth was tested in Episode 15, "Scuba Diver, Car Capers" on the show Mythbusters (Discovery channel, Wed @9pm), along with other engine myths such as destroying an engine by adding bleach to the gas tank. http://dsc.discovery.com/fansites/mythbusters/episode/00to49/episode-07.html
Why does your steering wheel vibrate but goes straight?
Have the wheels balanced. Get a 'front end alignment' done on your vehicle.
What causes the rear wheel to wobble during acceleration?
Bad tire? Bad wheel bearing? Bent wheel? Bent axle?
Why does your car shake while driving?
Have your tires checked out!
Body dithering on the driving comfort and handling judgment will have an effect. In the case of a transmission shaft deformation caused by the unbalance, generally, this happens in the chassis of the car collision more, but a lot of auto parts have shockproof.
What causes a car to shake going 50 mph?
Hello, That shake you are concerned about, it could be defective tyres, tyre balance needs checking, maybe a collapsing wheel bearing, front shock absorbers need replacing. Have a mechanic check the front end to see whats the problem. Peter. could just have water in one of the tires if your vehicle doesn`t shake at slow speeds but does at higher..
Why does your car shake when you accelerate?
You first have to make sure if the shaking is occurring only with the vehicle itself or with the brakes or gas pedal. It could be various reason. I can only help by sharing what I know from my experience I had recently.
I recently had some car issues with my 94 Accord. Whenever I acclerated between 60-73 mph my gas pedal and car would shake. This even occured when I Brake my car within that speed zone as well. The shaking that occured while I was braking was due to my front rotors. It simply needed to be changed. I asked a second mechanic for his opinion. (I didn't trust the guy at Brake Master. I came out with more problems for my car after the free brake check) While my car was jack up ( I was present under my car) the mechanic showed me that my axis (or was it my axel) was loose. He tugged on it and it moved. The bearings was cracked as well. Since this part of my vehicle was not stable, my car shakes when I accelerate. I am not a mechanic so please correct me if I am wrong. God Speed on finding the actual problem. Sometimes the best thing to do is go to a trustworthy mechanic and get it checked up.
Could tar stuck on tires cause shaky steering wheel and or tires?
yes becasue its throughing off the balance of the tires i would suggest removing the tar or haveing the wheels balance at your local repair shop
If it came from the factory with a cat it is aganst federal law to remove it... also if it has o2 sensors before and after the cat it will affect running of the truck...
What type of vehicle? Year, make, model?
Love.
Take the vehicle back to the tire store and make sure the tires were balanced correctly. Sometimes the wheel weights they applied when balanced fly off thus making the tire unbalanced. I just had 4 tires mounted and balanced and I made the dealer rebalance all four until they found the one causing the vibration. they found one wheel weight missing. Also...Dodge Caravans are notorious for transmission problems. A shuddering between 40 - 80 mph could mean your torque converter is going bad. Do not ignore this problem since the shuddering could eventually loosen the seal between your transmission and engine causing the fluid loss and burning. Also...check the rating of your transmission shop before you take it in. I took mine to Aamco and spent most of my time trying to get them to repair it correctly over a 2 year period.
What will cause a vibration that seems to be in the drivetrain when driving at 50 mph?
Several things could contribute to this, but you should also answer this question: if you go faster than 50mph, does it go away again? The goal is to find out if it only happens within a certain range of speeds, or rpms, or gears. So, for example, your answer might be that my car only vibrates between 50-58mph, and in 5th gear alone; it does not vibrate at the same speeds in 4th gear. Or another possible answer might be that your car only vibrates when the engine is turning over between 3600 - 4000rpm. If your car is an automatic or you don't have a tachometer, this will make answering this question more difficult. The goal is to be able to give your mechanic more information so that they won't hopefully spend unnecessary time on diagnostic tests. Don't do anything dangerous especially while driving at 50mph+ to try and find this information. A few possible answers: 1) a wheel out of balance; 2) a drive shaft out of balance, perhaps due to wear in one or more of the knuckle joints; 3) worn engine or transmission mounts; 4) a broken or nearly broken piece of body work in the front of the car that is loosening up and vibrating. I would say the U-Joints also make sure you have nothing wrapped around the drive shafts(road debri)
What does the crankshaft sensor do?
The computer then uses that information as a reference upon which to base ignition timing adjustments.
It reads the position and/or speed of an engine as it is rotating.
check harmonic balancer. check harmonic balancer.
What would cause an engine to shake at idle and while driving?
It might be a broken motor mount or transmission mount.
What would cause a 1998 Ford Windstar GL to run rough?
You may just need a tuneup. Could be a number of things. Dirty fuel injectors, vacuum leak, etc.
hi i had this problem,it was a hard one to figure out...but we did,it was the cars drive shafts.the bearings had gone. Hope this helps
you didnt metion if they are universal lug pattern, if its not take the tires off and check the matting surface, sometimes small flakes of rust get between the rotor and the rim.
Why does the steering wheel shake violently when in reverse or drive when the air is on?
Sounds like the idle is set too low. That steering wheel shake is probably from the engine on the verge of quitting because it's idling too slowly with the air on and the car in gear. There might also be a 'fast idle' solenoid associated with air con that is not being activated when the air con is turned on.
Turning the air off and trying both drive and reverse will confirm, at least to some extent, that the idle is only too slow when the aircon is on, that is if the jerking steering wheel behavior doesn't occur.
Then it's down to a simple idle adjustment, or at worst a look at a fast idle solenoid that may need replacing. With or without the solenoid, adjusting the idle a little faster should make this go away.
What could be the problem if your car shakes a lot when first accelerating from a stop?
You may have a broken engine or transmission mount.
If it's alloy wheels you might be missing the steel washer or you might be using the wrong lug nuts. If it's a steel wheel and it was properly tightened, it would seem that someone is messing with your vehicle.
Have the egr valve tested(vacuum test) when the egr goes bad the vehicles idle changes it feels like its going to turn off ,but if the valve is stuck open all the way the vehicle will turn off when idling. While answer 1 is not incorrect, another possible and more common cause is that the vehicle has gone far too long without proper preventive maintence and is in need of a complete TUNE UP. Failure to regularly and properly do recommended preventive maintence is guaranteed to eventually lead to performance problems. Good luck. j3h
