First, look for obvious signs of damage. Is there leaking around the radiator? Is the alternator or serpentine belt damaged? If it's not cranking, it might be a bad battery. If it's cranking but not catching, borrow, rent or buy a code scanner and see what the on-board diagnostics says. It's a simple process and will generally give you all of the information that you need.
Hi, you have a relay problem. I would first try the relay that is the kill relay in case you are in a accident. It is located in the trunk of the car on the drivers side in the side wall. You have to pull off the carpet or plastic on that side and you will see the relay. That is seldom that it goes bad, but I am thinking that could be what is wrong with your car. Hope this helps
Could a faulty fuel pump be the reason why my car won't turn over?
yes, had the same problem with my Chevy pickup
I have come across this exact problem myself and YES, when the car does not initially start and the engine keeps cranking - STOP attempting to turn the engine (ignition) on. One MUST turn the key to the on or start position furthest to the point where the key springs back and allow the SECURITY light to blink until it stops blinking. This usually takes anywhere from 10 to 15 minutes and possibly even longer. Regardless of how long it actually takes before the SECURITY light to stop flashing, one MUST wait that time out before he/she can switch the key to the OFF position then once again try to attempt the start of the engine.
Good luck to all those with this issue.
IF YOUR BATTERY DIES This worked for me too. My battery went dead and after a boost and several other things the car would still not start. I then tried the above and it started right away. I believe with the PASSLOCK II TM system the resistance of the key must be read before the car will start. Thanks for the advice DD
If the bike currently stalls once it gets hot this should help.
Assuming your turning the choke off chances are you have a problem with your carb, specifically the choke. Good way to check is remove the spark plug and see if its clean. If you see black soot all over it your getting too rich a mixture and that's likely a carb fault. If so take it off, inspect the choke mech is working properly, make sure when you turn it off its actually all the way off within the carb. Since it off check nothing else is plugged and clean it. reinstall, start with choke on, bring up to temp and start again without choke
THis fixed my son's xr80 with the same issue.
Good Luck
also i would check your ring because i have had the same problem you ring gets hot and it looses its spring and doesnt have enough compression to start
what kind of car is this? i would inspect for fuel pump bleed down,if its efi,do so by instaling a fuel pressure gauge, start vehicle and monitor pressure, than shut the vehicle off the pressure should loose no more than 5psi in 5 min. what kind of car is this? i would inspect for fuel pump bleed down,if its efi,do so by instaling a fuel pressure gauge, start vehicle and monitor pressure, than shut the vehicle off the pressure should loose no more than 5psi in 5 min.
300E Why is the key stuck on the ignition mode Lights appear but car will not turn on.?
Neutral safety switch ANSWER 2 Try hitting your steering wheel hard to the right :) Smack it really hard and try taking your key out again. There is a safety thing in there which sometimes needs a good smack.
If you're certain that there is fuel in the tank, I'd suggest that you have a faulty connector and/or ground wire.
Would a car start running then stall immediately if there was a PVC valve that needed replacing?
only if the engine is on its last legs , try removing the valve and see what happens . to be safe have a mate holding the key so you can switch off straght away if any problems . dont run engine for over 15 seconds with no valve as if engine is on last legs then it may!, pump oil out and destroy what you have left!!!
Why wont my 1988 Mercedes 190e that I just replaced timing chain start it only turns over?
Timing is probably off. Set number 1 piston at TDC and check the timing marks. If applicable, also remove cap from distributer and check position of rotor, it may need adjusting for correct timing.
needs either a new ignition switch or a new starter solenoid
What would cause a 1986 Toyota celica engine to die when driving it but will start right back up?
Fuel filter may be clogging up enough to not provide enough gasoline to keep the engine running, but will accumulate enough gasoline in it to re-start the vehicle.
i will presume that the engine will crank all the time, but not start all the time. check the power in and out of the distributor. if it has a system that uses a crank sensor then that would be the next in the line to check. hope it helps. duboff.
My ford truck key fits and starts my taurus! But that might be because the switch is worn, but you might want to try a couple different ford keys before tearing off the steering column. there were answers for hard way also, here is one way that might work although it doesnt sound very easy to me: http://www.ford-forums.com/ford-taurus/4345-how-replace-ignition-switch.html
unit has had fuel sitting in it, carb is plugged, fuel lines probably rotted, fuel filter hardened. always use fuel stabilizers, this will prevent it from happening, but it is for sure a carb problem.
My first guess would be you have the distributor in wrong. Give it a little shot of gas (prime it) down the carburetor and see if it tries to run at all. If nothing, gotta be the distributor is off. Put the engine at TDC (top dead center) and re-set it.
Since you got it wet and now it doesn't run, it probably just needs to dry out good. Here's why. If you really have spark and fuel... it will run. Suggest you check them again. Check for spark at the spark plug. Do you have a spark? Fuel, try putting a little dribble of gas (priming) down the intake and see if it tries to start. If it does, no gas at the injectors. Check all wires and connections. Make sure you didn't accidently do something to them.
Your 86 crown vic battery's dead when you try to jump it the car tries to start with no keys in it?
if it tries to start with out a keu when you hook up the jumper cables, you have a bad starter solenoid.
Hi, I have had the same problem in two Camry's, it is a faulty/worn ignition switch an easy way to over come this is to fit a cheap relay into the starter circuit external to the starter, this will fix it.
If the 93 Stealth came with a crank sensor but it does not have one now, then it will not start. The sensor shows the ignition coil when to send power to the spark plugs.
1994 jeep Cherokee 4.0 l crank but not start has no spark even in the coil?
Yes, well it is a coil, but they call it something different. you can find it under the destributor cap, it will be right under it. it looks like a black round like disk with a wire coming off it. that is what mine was when it did that. so try that out, it is a 20 min job. 2 screws. Good Luck...jeep mamaits called a pickup coil i replaced it alreadyand the crank shaft sensor, and plugs, wires, cap, rotor and the coil is good just no spark from distributor...posted by spiked2u(original postor of question)
Sounds like you need a Chiltons book which you can reference at your local library. They have all the schematics on all vehicles made. When it first started with problems if it cranked without running down the battery, sounds like it was getting enough juice from the electrical system. Sound like more of a gas issue to me. Check the float, butterfly, gas filter anything that has to do with gas getting to the carb. Could be bad fuel pump, too. Something sounds clogged. Give it a tune up too. If there is a way for you to get it to Discount/Advanced auto they do diagnostics for free. Which most places charge for, they hook up a little computer to the fuse systems and get a read out. Get your local phone book out and call around to service stations, I was lucky to find one that did it for free, too. The places that charge for it cost $50-75.00 which is a rip off, according to my mechanic because it takes less then 5 minutes to hook up and get results but you know how that goes. I know you may not be able to start it but if you have AAA or any family members have AAA they may be willing to tow it for free to and from for you to get it looked at...Good luck.
What causes the 2000 buick lesabre to stall while driving then turn back on?
the car dont star not run ,i see before the stater and the starter is good but i dont no the car not start now and need the coil ignition diagram thank
I would check the timing (sounds like the car is pinging) first put some premium gas in it if that doesn't work then check the timing! What I did on my car was power time it, while someone is holding the brake real tight rev up the eng to about 2000 RPM then slowly turn the distributer till you hear the pinging then turn it back slightly till it stops and you will have the total amount of timing you can run! If you use regular gas the car will not peform good from a stop on acceleration! These cars have to run on premium gas if you have the 5.0 HO engine (Mustang GT Engine) they put this eng. in all Mark vii's 1988 and up! If this doesn't work then you have another problem???????
