Car Starting Problems

If the starter is clicking when you turn the key then the relay is not the problem, more likely is the battery and starter wire connections. Take them off and clean them before putting them back on ( have the battery checked ) corrosion will cause the symptom you described, however there should be a starter relay in the engine compartment fuse panel. If the truck is a standard transmission, it could be the Neutral safety switch, which is located under the clutch pedal. However, most likely it is the solenoid on the starter, I just had the same problem, time for a new starter.

Take it out of reverse.

You need a new battery or it has a battery cable connection problem. The battery needs a full charge too - like driving around for an hour to charge it back up. A voltmeter is useful to read battery voltage when cranking. 12.6 volts =full charge. When cranking it may drop to 10 volts. If the starter won't turn over use the voltmeter to check for the 12 volts on the battery and then starter battery cable connection point.

I have a VW Jetta 2001 I have had so many thing done to this car this summer $ 3,000 dollar worth when I turn my car on it goes blank let it set for a day it starts back up got a cable jump that's last for a week could it ce my battery also took it to auto zone they said my battery was low but I afraid to buy the battery and still have the same problem. please!!! help sign all cashed out,

There might be a problem with the fuel pressure. When the vehicle is shut off after driven for a while, the fuel pressure create a vapor lock in the fuel line. Therefore, insufficient fuel are going into the fuel injectors while you restart. Also, it check for any TSB from ford to see of this a common problem for this vehicle. Good Luck.

I assume you checked for spark by removing the spark plug wire and tested for spark against ground. Although you may have spark through the plug wire, the spark plug could be bad and the spark is not being conducted to ignite the gasoline - change the spark plug. Another reason would be a sheared keyway on the flywheel that would cause it to be out of time. Another possibility is a shorted kill switch wire. Hope this info helps.

i had same problem on my 94 changed the crank and cam sensor then it was fine

The autos do not have a safety switch....They have a sensor located in the trans itself that tells the ecu if its in neutral/park.....I believe its a 3 pin plug going into the trans itself,.....trace it and see where it leads.....You may be able to hook up a toggle switch..

Yes, replacing a starter solenoid is expensive. It is about $80.00 for the actual starter plus any man hours that go into installing the starter. It will end up costing around $400.00.

the coils are directly on top of each spark plug. they are round and have an electrical plug coming out of the side.

If you have insufficient clearance, the pistons hit the valves, followed by the predictable parts damage. On the other hand, if you have too much clearance, the engine will run, but it won't achieve anything close to its performance potential.

hmmmm I don't know did you check the fuel distributor, try putting starting fluid where the AIR intake is then try to start it if it wants to start but doesn't you know it is something with the fuel.

It has fuel or spark problems. Next time it doesn't start check for spark. If it has good spark it must be a fuel issue. Maybe a failing fuel pump. Try spraying a little starting fluid down into the throttle body and try to start it. If you get some response you probably have a fuel problem.

Coolant leaking from back? meaning exaust? If yes, then it's a head gasket or cracked head. Will not start because 2 or more sparkplugs are now wet with coolant.

I have the same problem on my 90 buick 3.3l, no start replaced fuel filter, turns over has spark, 40 psi fuel pump pressure and good volume, no trouble codes, no way to check injector pulse, going to throw a new ecm at it if it works I will try to let you know. I have read that if it has spark it can't be the crank sensor hope the blogs are right. my e-mail is stankline66@hotmail.com

fuel pumps go bad after sitting for a while, check that

the first thing is to pull out the dip stick and check to see if the oil is white and creamy and over full,also check coolant may also be creamy.many things could have happend from cracked engine block from being froze.the over heating could warp the head or if lucky just the head gasket.best is do a pressure test on the colling system.

Try wiggling the starter solenoid wire. My 91 after so many random starts did/does this and cleaning/tightning the terminal clip works every time.

that sounds like your starter motor isn't working, which would explain why there is no noise when you try to restart it

Microphones are connected to input devices that read the voltage from them and hence are not driven to make noise. Sounds like your water level is running low. Check the level in the radiator reservoir You may also have a leak.
